Just so that we are clear, I have entered any triples and at the moment am not going to do so. I was just interested to find out wht triple events are out there....
LOL... and that should have read "I haven't entered any" then? LOL at the freudian slip...
Eva, our Monique is doing a half-deca next year, that's 5 times an IM course! There's also a very famous deca, or 10 times IM held every year, alternate years they do either 10 IM distance one ofter the other or all the swim/all the bike/all the run together! If you look around, you can find lots of crazy things that people do. We have two Channel swimmers amongst the Pirates.
Half-deca and deca!! I don't even want to do the maths! My eyes have been opened. And there's that woman in the gym in her leisure pants walking on the treadmill for 10 minutes thinking she's getting a workout.
Am I the only one who finds it weird that an event involving 760 lengths of swimming, 560 miles of cycling and a 131 mile run can be described as half of anything?
I am back, Monique. I'd be starting from a very very low base for a tri. Never been on a road bike, have the elderly-lady-with-make-up-on swimming style - gentle breast stroke with my face out of the water. And a marathon best of 4:54. But thank you for suggesting it, Monique.
I'm doing an IM distance race next year Eva. I've never run further than 7 miles and have just bought my first ever road bike. My only advantage over you is that i'm a reasonably good swimmer. You know you want to do it Eva
As Symes says above there are a lot of pirates that have gone from not being the world's greatest swimmers or cyclist, or having run a marathon to entering an IM and managing to complete an IM in less then a year of training. If you want to do it, and have the support of your family then you can do it.
Like many others on this forum, 3 and a bit years ago I had never run a marathon, swam more then a mile let a long rode a bike for more then 20miles. Since then I have completed 3 IM's, 1 Double IM, plus numerous rides of over a 100miles, ultra runs and other bits and pieces,
Just back from a club run this evening, and I just can't keep away from you piratical iron people. Had a quick skim of KK's thread - thanks for the link - I'll find a quiet day at work to do it justice. That's some fearless woman!
I've been fancying the idea of getting a proper bike for a while ....
Eva, here is a link to the thread about Roth which is an Ironman distance race alot of people are going to next year (18th July 2010) and here is a link to the official site
This is like being recruited for a cult! Where do I hand over all my money? Thanks for all the links - I'm off out for the day so I'll follow them up later. Ooh, you guys have got me thinking
Comments
Eva - cut-off would be around 50-something hours I'd think, basing that on the double we recently did having a 35 hour cut-off, all good fun really
Beware as a marathon is where a few of us started out
A marathon, now that is cute
Not that I have looked into the cut-off times, but they tend to be around the 60 hourr mark
06 was a hard year, so they extended the cut off to well beyond 60 hours
They are a piece of piss to finish, either way!
I'm overwhelmed with admiration for you Pirates, not only to be able to do these races, but to do all the necessary training. Mind-boggling!
Now I'll p*ss off back to the running threads.

As I say if you want to, you can.
Just do it

This thread may also be an interesting read too, its about where a lot of us were at when signing up for a first Ironman.
How bad were you... ...1 year before your first IM?
Eva... resistance is futile!
You can try anything you want to Eva. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
