I also heard your dad on Today this morning. Excellent comments on David Blunkett I thought! Interesting to hear he felt Jonathan Aitken was a lying toad before the Guardian managed to prove it with their "faux fax", as I think it was called. Didn't that cost the editor his job?
he's never been very keen on politicians of any stripe...but i didn't hear what he had to say-did he question blunketts vision?looking forward to refreshing memory of aitken case by getting hold of the book-don't be shy about ordering it....now off to run.
Yeah I heard your Dad on the radio- loved his comments about going to watch Fulham. He didn't mention his next novel set in another galaxy in the distant future- so I'm rather disappointed.
now i'm nervous,i didn't hear about fulham before,he did have an entertaining story about visiting milwall.wouldn't put it past him to have confused the two, south and south west london not his forte....
Even funnier then, he described the "goalie" as "naughty" for getting sent off and said that the punishment for bad terrace behaviour was getting thrown out of the ground, if they did iit again they were made to watch the rest of the match.
the old ones are the best...!at milwall he was quite relaxed about going onto the terraces in his civvies-which really means not wearing a tie for him.i don't think he had much clue about the reputation of the fans...the civil servants were very worried for his safety-that was half the point of the enquiry,so they got two undercover detectives to go with him...i expect they made a very odd trio....he also caused a certain amount of amusement when doing the rfu tribunal on dallaglio by referring to the sport as 'rugger'...very 'boys own',but that's the generation...i fully expect him to ask if i've met alf tupper soon....
We've all got an entertaining story about visiting Millwall but that's a good one. Crule jibe about Mr Blunkett Alex which reminded me of a conversation I overheard nr the tripe stall in Sheffields Castle market once. Two blokes were talking about Blunkett and one says to the other " He's blind tha knows ! aye in both eyes ! "
I trust you get a mention in this book Alex ?

correct.you have been a busy badger...i'm trying to persuade him to come and run windsor 1/2 without much success at the moment.he is superfit solicitor now. For the avoidance of doubt,Andrew Popplewell and Ed Popplewell are also my brothers.Accept no imitations...
front page of the express and page 2 of the telegraph,p8 of the indy.it seems to be working-who says advertising on the bbc doesn't work!! Amazon.co.uk Sales Rank: 1,144
and have started reading it.quite amusing since he refers to 'rugger' throughout.quite a lot i never knew.lovely understated comment about his mother to whom i thought he was devoted, but clearly not...luckily i escape too much attention... so may blunkett continue to 'whinge'...even if he clearly doesn't understand what populism is.and why it was a criticism not a compliment in that context...
