This one is really for the blokes, but if any ladies want to chip in then feel free.
Basically with winter near enough on our doorstep I was wondering is it time to discard the shorts and go for something which covers the legs completely in the cold weather.
Last year (my first year running) I plummed for a pair of Ronhill's standard track pants (with the loop that goes under the foot). But recently i've seen other runners out wearing what can only be described as leggings.
Do other male runners just stick with the shorts? or what.
Cheers

Personally Jay I still wear shorts, sometimes adding a sweatshirt on top of my t-shirt. I used to use a pair of legging type running trousers (can't remember their actual name) but just didn't feel right for me.
Only downside to shorts in winter is, plenty of shrinkage (ahem)
cheers
Danowat can you recomed a particular type? If i decide to go for the tighs.. i may have to still wear shorts over them.
Leggings, Nike Ones, they have the benefit of reflective piping on the legs and do keep a bit of the chill off at the start of a run,

Mine are Saucony ones, not sure of the exact model, but they fit very well, and they are very comfy, they have zips on the ankles, and the ankles have some sort of sticky, rubbery stuff (the stuff you find on hold up stockings.........apparently.......) that hold the ankles down and stop them riding up.
I also have a really, really thin Brooks LS top that I wear under a normal t-shirt thats ace too.
I've got plenty of the compression tops and a couple of cambridge cold wear tops as well.
It's just the bottom half that I hadnt prepared to cover up.
But i'll have a look at both sets of tights that have been recomended. Think while i'm running i'll have to shout manly phrases to make sure my masculinity doesnt drop to drastically.
Sorry Mr pirate sir
Can you get male running skirts?, might be quite fetching.
Shorts for me
although I did wear my running tights once last winter, it was snowing
Well, you can definately get male skirts and, umm, mantyhose.
Shorts and t-shirt with gloves. Cycling shorts with shorts over the top. A long sleeve winter running top. Occasionally a rugby league shirt with a lighter running tee underneath for double layering.
Never ever wear a jacket.
I like running when it's cold as I go faster.
I don't get this "for decency's sake", I mean its not as if you've got the old boy hanging out the front of your shorts and wanging around in the breeze is it?
annyway - shorts all the way in winter
Tights for me, nothing worse than getting loose tracksuits wet and they then weigh an extra pound on each leg. Learn the hardway at Snowden last year!
Shorts as long as I can, but I don't like the cold that much. Personally don't see the point of toughing it out, quite confident in my masculinity to admit I feel the cold!
I have lycra shorts and both 3/4 and full length tights and proper shorts 9though I don't wear them all at once).
You can get a decent pair at a good price if you shop around on the t'internet.
Nike leggings for me, sod the shorts in winter....you get some decent looks in tight leggings anyway lol
Ron Hill Trackster
Maybe a pair of compression pants underneath.
Helly Hansen base layer with either a short or longsleeved tech-shirt or vest ever the top depending on how cold it is and what type of run I am doing and the time of day.
Karimoor windstopper if it rains.
Socks and shoes
Must get some proper warm ones if it snows like last year.
No gloves or hat but may change that.
You want to be warm enough to avoid pulling muscles. A good pre-run warm up helps but its training not racing so you need to keep warm as the intensity of the work out will be less than that of a race.
