Hello old friends and some new ones! tried to enter on line today but kept refusing my card anyone sub me? DE how was Greenday a friend of my sons got invited on stage to sing with them, he's got a great photo of it. well done all of you on your great racing and running again well done SZ I felt a bit tired reading the report. Hi CD glad you enjoyed langdale. I have entered a half in january and Coniston 14 so far need to keep motivated. Fancied Paris for the spring but at 90 euros to enter I have had to rethink and may be doing Wharfdale instead how about it CD. Nice report Trex I love it.
Okay, I have a question for the panel. If, and I say IF, one were to ever think about running a nice gentle off road hilly 50 miler, what do you folks reckon is a good one?
Here's a quick recipe if you're feeling peckish, say, during a marathon:
2oz sugar
2oz butter
4oz oats
4oz golden syrup / honey / maple syrup / whatever legal syrup gloop you can find
heat it all up in a saucepan
chuck it in the oven (on a tray = less mess) gas mark 4 for 20 mins
SS Don't know why she was DSQ'd - Yes that's me looking a bit bushed. Luna's recipe has reminded me - Forgot to mention in the report that I scoffed a delicious Damson Crumble breakfast 2 hours prior to running - it wasn't long enough - more learning to be done!
lm - i'm a great fan of the highland fling..3 miles less than the bs but thats the tight scots for you
heres the tempting bits - bottle of beer and a bottle of bubbly to all finishers, a great fish n chip cafe (real food cafe) at the end with unlimited free tea, a dance if you're that way inclined and , if you've not had enough like t rex, the chance to go the whole hog for another 40+miles to the end of the whw in fort william
what more could a man want.
i think i've just talked myself back into ultra running after a brief absence!
ooh yes CD, if it wasn't in April that would be a certainty - but I don't reckon I can train for both that and a flat and fast(er) one. Bubbly though ...
SP I know city marathons are expensive but that seemed a bit excessive! I did it in 2003 I doont remember it being anything like that much although I've had a few sleeps since then
re ny marathon..i cant see why anyone would want to give away their time and money to runn through such s###holes that the route passes through
give me a tenner each and i'll devise a 26.2m route for you through some derelict industrial areas and dodgy residential parts of the potteries...though i refuse to man the waterstations
A massive well done to everyone for SNOD 09, i am sure I saw everyone at some point on the hill, i was sat about 3/4 up, but understandably most people looked preoccupied.
I had a little jog with one of my freinds at the top for morale but i was gutted not to take part.
I have just had some orthotics sorted out for what appears to be a short leg with a tendency to pronate, apparnetly this is the cause of all my woes.
Went for a 3.5 mile quick walk this mornng and hey presto no pain, which makes up for the last two and a half months of getting fatter and unable to go more than a mile without getting chronic pain.
Also found out all my shoes are a size to small, this would rate as 'fairly embarrsing' i can still hear my mum blasting me for all the money she spent on clarkes shoes!
So i have a week of 40 minute walks, so leg massage and then...might break into a jog.
Would love to put my name down for SNOD 10 but some how I think it could just be a little premature!
Excellent race report, steve-z. You captured the atmosphere brilliantly. Sounds like a sort of race I ought to enjoy.
I've only done one fell race - the Llanbedr to Blaenavon 15, and I was rubbish at it. Chatting to people at the start, I remarked it was my first fell race, and what did the category "AL" mean? They looked at me with pity and probably thought, "The poor sod". Its the toughest category of event A = >250' ascent per mile and L= long.
Won't be working out my 2010 events yet, but Highland Fling will be on the list. (And of course SNOD.)
TRex-read though last of Snod 2009 forum last night-I noticed you were prepared to pace me for a sub 4 hr-I'm in... and if I manage it-I'll buy you the biggest pint Llanberis can offer

steve-zodiac,
Any idea why she was DSQ. There is no sign of her in the photos. I take it that you are the deestriders vest with no number?
SS
90 euros - wow that's a bit steep NG.

Here's a quick recipe if you're feeling peckish, say, during a marathon:
simple sticky flapjacks, rockin'!
Bullock Smithy LM - 56 miles for the price of 50 ! http://www.bullocksmithy.com/
Great fun - starts at 12 noon.
Tis pricy that NG. All overseas maras seem to be very expensive. Cologne cost me about 65 euros from memory.
How many people have access to an oven during a mara LM ??

SP/SZ, oh yes, I quite forgot, it's been so long since I did a marathon, I felt sure there were ovens involved!
Bullock Smithy - ooh yes, recognise some of those places from HP40. I'll check out the cooking facilities first.
LOL SZ - no, there's just no chance to eat anything on a 10k is there, it's rubbish!
Isn't it time Eric and Norm christened the thread?i'd say both sz

Lol CD.
This ultra in May looks interesting, albeit exclusive. Any-one done it ? http://cateran55ultra.webnode.com/
Am, but limited to only 50 entrants. Hope navigation will be easy because there wouldn't be many others to follow !!
have a think then...and lets talk...if im heading back into ultras i need to start cranking the mileage up again quite soon
navving will be easy...you'll have me to do it!!!
ng's talking about charlie, isnt that right ng!
He loves it NG -
Apparently girl got DQ'd for missing last check-point. Easily done - rotten luck.
sz- funny that. at wharfedale this year the female winner of the half and several others did likewise and didnt get disqualified
sp, sz, ng, everyone...theres three weeks between the fling (53) and the cateran (55)..all say 'aye'? i'll have to put me boots on!
