I'll be doing this one again, found it tough last year and clocked 1:55, the uphill slog at (I think) mile 8-10 was a bit of a killer for me I'll will be hoping to do better than that in 2010
im in this one again, loved it last year will be trying to get that sub 2hr here but anything under last times 2hr 7 will be fine. My PB is 2hr 2 so i think sub 2hrs is on the cards at some point
when you reach the main road from the rugby club turn right towards retford over the bridge to the great north road then along that to torworth then left til u meet up with the main A634 then left down that back to barnby moor where you turn right and go right down the very straight old london road past ranby to the A620 then left back along to the right turn back to the rugby club.
hmm, yes quite exposed for alot of the route i reckon, wind could play a part. But no major hills i can think of. that'll do to train for after this weekend's half.
I'll be doing this one again after running it for the first time last year. Did 1:41 knocking 5 mins off my PB!
The first half of the race was windy as it was quite exposed but after making the turn at the end of the long road the wind wasn't a problem after that.
A couple of inclines but nothing nasty and it was very well organised. See you all there!
Retford HM is good mate, it's only about 150 - 300 strong, starts and finishes 150 yds or so apart
we can run a fast time there so it's got to be flatish, with just a couple of minor drags
nice and rural, actually it's out turn right, then left, along a road, left anticlockwise loop, right again back on road came out on then right to get on another road,
the a left , then a right back in , were we turned right going out
ooh decisions. decisions! it's this or the lincoln 10k. a little worried that i'll be running on my own for most of this one given it's such a small field, not used to that at races though i do my long runs alone i suppose. No fear of running alone at Lincoln! Tempted by the flatness though...
This is a great little race and I'll be entering over the weekend.
Egyptian (missle) toe - Don't do Dronfield it's an horrific race (even though it is local) You will enjoy this so much more and it's worth the extra travel. I'll even give you a lift from Sheffield if you want.
Any of you entrants out there that are either born in Nottinghamshire or have been resident within Nottinghamshire for the last 9 months, and have not competed in a county championship race at this distance elsewhere in the last 12months, then put the tick on your entry form or e mail us at retfordhalf@googlemail.com to be entered as a Notts county championship entrant. There will be a presentation after the race for not only for the first three M and F finishers, and the first M and F category winners, and for the Championship category winners too. M S, V40-49, V50-59, over 60. F S, V35-44, V45-54, and Over 55.
This may be a silly question... but, does anybody know if race numbers are posted out or do we collect on the day? I only ask as I work away from home alot of the time so don't want to miss the post.
Ok Angie, many thanks. This will be only my second race in about ten years so I'm not sure if it's the norm for organisers to post numbers or collect on the day.
Still, after being happy with my performance in a 10K last week i'm now really looking forward to tackling a half marathon!
im just going to try and make it round, im doing the kilomathon the week before but loved this so much last year i couldnt miss it, got a PB here last time, think i'll just go for the t-shirt this time
well you're be in good company im a plodder at the back, but i look at it this way at least we are doing it which is more than can be said for loads of others
have just got back into running after a few years off! my last half mara was in 2006 and was about 2 and half hours! am builiding up to a marathon in May (windermere).
have never been particularly quick though and can't see that improving (nor am I too bothered about going much quicker!!!!)
ive been running just under 2 years and im building up for a may marathon too (edinburgh)
my speed hasnt changed much since i started but my stamina has so can go further without stopping too much which is all im bothered about i will never be at the front but who cares we have a better laugh at the back chatting (if i have enough breath left )

I find the worst bit is the steady incline from Torworth after a left turn along a winding lane.
hi all, i'm up for this one as it's on my doorstep.
What is the route?
i think this is right.
when you reach the main road from the rugby club turn right towards retford over the bridge to the great north road then along that to torworth then left til u meet up with the main A634 then left down that back to barnby moor where you turn right and go right down the very straight old london road past ranby to the A620 then left back along to the right turn back to the rugby club.
Perfect run this one
have run a best there of 1:46
our HM pb is only 1:43, couple of drags bot nout much
EASY,EASY,EASY
Some long steady inclines though that can be tough if it's windy (I seem to remember it being windy last year) Good route though and well organised.
Hi Micknphil, how's tricks, didn't see you at Worksop this year? will you be at Retford again next year??
