Brad Wiggins would get my vote. For someone with his short distance track background to finish 4th in the TdeF is a superb achievement and following his daily progress in this year's Tour was my sporting highlight of the year.
However,he's not even on the shortlist,so either Mark Cavendish or Jess Ennis would be a worthy winner.
Unfortunately,it'll probably be neither,as precedent shows that Formula 1 drivers invariably get far more votes than they deserve. The absurdity of this is well illustrated by Jenson Button.Been around for years as a relative also-ran and then, for a while this year, couldn't stop winning.
The reason ? his car was much better than everyone else, due to some technical "jiggery pokery".Maybe his chief mechanic should be the one who's up for an award.
Manchester Uniteds plan for world financial domination moves on another stage........
Lifetime acheivement maybe just about in a couple of years but but but but SPOTY, words fail me....... methinks the X factor and this have the same voters, several million of whom should be disenfranchised
FFS....Bloody football, Can't beleive the England MENS cricket team won the team award when the WOMENS team won every comp they entered not just one like the mens
Can't believe that after years and years when the public ignored great welsh sporting greats like colin jackson.......we have won twice in a row.........true giggs is more like a lifetime award but he's a lovely chap.

maybe its my chance next year
So, Gary Neville to win next year?
Sports Personality of the Year.
William SHARMAN
His interviews at the world champ athletics were great.
WTF?
Giggs! What has he actually done this year?
Jess Ennis was the best contender.
Well, Man U do seem to be rather good at winning things, so why not.
But I draw the line at Phil Neville.
I cannot believe that the men's cricket team won the team award the women should have won it.
Well done Ryan - love you
You just can't trust the British public to get anything right
Cav should have won with his performances in the Grand Tours this year.
those biggin up the womens cricket team, basically, no-one cares about it, that's why they didn't win!
And those who think Giggs deserves it are dumb! OK, he is a nice guy but even he looked embarrassed by it, it was rather farcical really.
No one cares about women's cricket - fact. Even women don't care about it
Its just a BBC sop to be pc.
