Coasting Round Britain: Southend To Portsmouth

Thought I'd try to start this off, and see if we can get organised into sections from Southend to Portsmouth. Really depends on how long we are looking at doing for each stage.

Maybe we should look into breaking it down into 20 mile sections then take it from there.

Perhaps we can start by making some smaller areas... like Essex, North Kent coast, S.Kent, etc

any takers?

I'm in for E.Sussex but could help with W.Sussex too

RP, i've put myself up for the Southend pier to Greenwich foot tunnel leg about 45 miles i reckon. so i guess i fit in here

There are quite a few of us in the Eastbourne area, I think 4 of us are willing to do a stint over Beachyhead.

Hi, Just joining the thread too.  I've put myself down for Hastings - Brighton which is about 20 miles I think.  Can't actually run at all at the minute so exactly how much I'll be able to do by the time we get to this part of the coast is just a guess.

I'll also join Cinders for a stretch in Kent too.

Don't think it matters, as it is easier to slow up than speed up (as we runners know!)

Hoose has created a monster....but a fantastic one!

I expect dividing up the route will be the key thing, and those with local knowledge will know what is achievable in a day.

I've had a quick look at the map. Fairly ad hoc, I've divided up the coast.
Please comment, change, etc, as I've no idea about most of the places...

I love the thought of doing Brighton and beyond!   But to Littlehampton will be ample I suspect. I have run that route as a training run a few times so no problemo there, its almost a coastal path the whole way.  I may well drag a couple of friends with me.

Will also put a post on Uknetrunner, as we are far flung across the country.

Is there a rough mileage per section or has it just been split up per nearest big town?

I tried to do it roughly around 20miles, but it was a real guess.
Also included a town in which to start/finish as thought that'd be where people were based.

We can then split each 20miler into smaller parts if we want.
The 'locals' can arrange that themselves.

Just need to get a rough idea of numbers and who can do where.

I've put myself down for the Rye to Hastings stretch.  I'll have to find out the tide times for this one so that I can run along the beach from Fairlight to Rock-a-nore, otherwise it's a big inland detour up a huge huge huge hill .

Once I know how far all the distances of each stretch I'll put myself down for some more.
