Bruce -we could simply stick with the coastline-we are "coasters" after all
this is all academic at the mo. Let us see exactly what the locals think. We could target clubs for "coastal" regions and leave border alone. Give it a week or so first to see what response we get on the forum.
If nothing -well we tried!
To me , this stretch has got to be in the control of NI Runners and co-ordinated locally. If we can get a NI co-ord and leave 'em to it
I have just been to the 2010 for 2010 Wk 23 thread - looks like Whitehead Runner and Mark Duffy are both still interested in running this - dates dependent. I have invited them to pop into this thread to join in the discussion....
yes woody -that was done long ago and because of lack of response (like now) we abandoned the idea. However, I never felt easy about not including NI and thought we may get a better response once we have taken off.
I sincerely hope we will but when we tried on NI Runners thread we have again been totally ignored. It really saddens me.
It's frustrating because for example like Jog Scotland, had the info been taken more seriously, with less apathy and passed around within the club before it was to late, they would have been able to cover the legs to the end, the actual runners were well up for it but it was all to late.
Thing is , I feel that many did not really believe it was truly going to happen. Also, unlike other events, this one could not offer exact times and dates at an early stage. We are pretty unique in ways that doesn't sit well with more "conservative" ideas about events and managing them. However, people are increasingly grasping the coasters concept and we are proving it can work. We are pioneers and like all pioneering ideas it takes time for people to get a grip of them.
The next coasters venture will be a lot easier because people will know it can be done from the word go
If the NI runners aren't interested then we'll just have to carry on with plan A, shame but doesn't seem right to co-ord and send over runners from the UK, specially if we only do the 200 miles of coastline. Not like it's really sparsely populated like current stretches.
Hi guys just saw message on 2010 miles- week 23, don't pop into the NI forum much. I'm not a member of a running club so can't pass on the word but am willing to run a couple of legs if need be, could do up to 20 ish miles a day.
When do you think that Barry will be in Northern Ireland and does the baton have to be passed on to someone else or a couple of rest days if need be?
Also can run any part of the Antrim coast, i live at the mouth of Belfast Lough and the coast road goes past my house, so that should help!
Being in NI -you may have a chance to pick up Barry early October if we are to a week per stretch. What we are asking is for you NI guys to get together in the next 4-6 weeks max. This will enable more solid dates to be set and a trip over can be sorted.
If we can get names of clubs from Belfast- L/Derry near to coast , we can approach them.
My feeling is that NI could be second to last stretch. Once we get to Fflint in Wales we can take Barry across via Liverpool or Holyhead. You can have him for a week or so and then we do the last leg from Fflint to Blackpool for the party.
Hi Whitehead Runner...why don't you give Mark Duffy a nudge...I think he knows a fair few runners in NI that he could perhaps hassle to help me round...
I really want to go round the coast of NI...pleeeaseee..
I've posted on another couple of forums were NI runners lurk and have added a linky to the coastersgb website. I hope we get enough people together to do this, i wouldn't want to be left out!
All of you NI runners... if we in the North West of Scotand can get Barry round.. you can too! Just needs one or two of you to take on the co-ordinating and start finding runners for the legs.. YOU CAN DO IT!

I would opt for posting Barry to local, Mike

I was looking for the date I actually got involved and came across julieflies. I've sent a PM to see if she is still interested.

I don't Know if you have already been in touch? if not can I leave it to you professorial types to get in-touch with the above?

The worse case scenario is there is only a handful who can run - but we have OFFORD & RUSKY!
They would probably cover the rest between them!!! (just joking.....)
lol
this has gotta be about the NI guys really. I want them to "own" this stretch rather than it being imposed on them.
I agree it's not what this is all about, after all anyone with money could get a team together to complete the whole lot but it wouldn't be the same.
I've posted on one of the NI forums, fingers crossed .

we should be Ok if we do a week per stretch as planned You may miss the party though

Had a response from an Northern Ireland forum which reads
"We are having a nite out on fri for our club runners so i'll have a word to see if any one wants to do this"
Which I thought sounds promising, Did a universal flyer get done? I could mail it to them.
mailed it to you woody
