can you tell us where/when the water stops are by mileage and location? Also, is it just water or other refreshments, I've heard about cake being offered? Sounds like a picnic ..... apart from the running, hills, mud etc.... .
Dina mo, good luck with that calf, it would be a shame to miss it this close after all the hard work you must have put in!
I can't wait for this on Sunday. Its my absolute favourite race. It will be my forth time of running and I will still be shocked at the size of Butser but grinning all the way home.
I've had a single digit race number a couple of times before but on Sunday, I will be number 2 That's basically elite isn't it?
Hi Helly. It's been a long time. How you going? How's the running?
I've had it easy for a couple of years. The first year I did it, the mud was so deep in places but then the next 2 times were pretty dry so I had a feeling this year would be a bog.
I have a number for Sunday that my partner can bring with him as he is still running - anyone want it...? Is going cheap.... Am sad I can't run it - broken foot and on crutches....
If anyone take up this offer that's great but PLEASE can you let the race organiser know your full details - for safety reasons with this weather particularly... thanks a lot. Sharon - Race Organiser. Enjoy!
Hi Marky, my calfs a little tight, but I've rested it since Monday and really hoping it'll get me round with some compression socks But can't bear the thought of not even trying. I have no idea what 40mph winds feels like, thats not a girly sort of thing to know (ignorance is bliss).....guess I'll find out tomorrow. I have to say, I generally respond well to shocking weather.....it makes me laugh at the madness of it all!
Say hi if you see me, I should imagine I'll be wearing a bright coral pink gortex jacket, and a dustbin liner.....unless of course the sun comes out then I'll be in my Stubbington Green vest
FYI : Portsmouth Joggers Website updated: Updated Saturday 27th Feb at 16.30hrs. Just got back from marking out the course and.....
"The Meon Valley Plod Sunday 28th February 10.30am start, IS ON! Weather forecast is wet and it WILL be muddy. Please can all runners ensure that they dress appropriately and take care on the course. Above all, PLEASE, PLEASE share lifts where you can, as parking is tight due to the rain we have had." Have a great run! MVP Race Organisers.
Yipee !!!! . I was dreading this being cancelled.... good on yer Sharon & PJC, really looking forward to this now. Might change my mind at 10:30 though
Will say high Dina Mo, I'll be in the mud coloured top, shorts, socks and shoes with a number 54 clearly not visible !
Yeah, they were handing them out near the baggage reclaim.
That was tough. That mud was so draining on the legs and the water so cold. However, I had a ball. As always, it was excellent. Thanks to all the marshalls. They were a delight.
Great cake as well. The ginger was especially good.
My only complaint was with the mile markers. I swear they were not right!!!
OK I think I may be mental. I really enjoyed that, I think the conditions helped me as I have never run that far before and having to walk quite a bit saved my legs. I think I may be back next year. Oh and a big THANKS to all the marshallsthe feed station were fantastic. Mars bar cake and jelly babies in one mouth full yummy! But by god was it muddy.
First time I have done this race, and was shocked by the mud and puddles. But they did say this is the worst year for conditions so far, so guess I will have to do it again next year and hope conditions are better. Had a really good day though and enjoyed myself. As was mentioned on a previous post thought the mile markers could have done with a little more effort when setting them out, and maybe one or two more as well, but not a mjor problem and did not spoil my day.
Just waiting for the results to see where I came now, I feel pleased with my time 3hr 41mins, so thats the main thing.
Well done to all competitors today! It was a trifle sticky out there! Results now on our site. Reports will appear in the Petersfield Post and The Portsmouth News - this coming week.
Boy, that was tough! At least I feel confident of getting round a road marathon after the challenges of yesterday. I was amazed at the debris I emptied out of my shoes afterwards - lucky my feet were mostly numb from running through icy cold knee-deep puddles!

Hey Dina-mo,
think positive ! The wind will reduce as the race goes on.......... ok from 40 MPH to 35 MPH but at least its decreasing!
How's the calf anyway ?

On that note, I'm driving from South London (near Clapham Junction) so if anyone wants a lift there and back, just ask.

Well, I presume its still on. There is about an inch of water in my garden and its still bucketing it down.
Can you run in wellies?
