I was the guy that dropped down just after 26 miles on the canal, pleased to say I am fine now just a bit sore. Many thanks to St John's, they were first class. Looking forward to finishing it next year. Such a shame cos I think I was about 3hr 40 when I dropped
Really disappointed in myself for having to give up fairly early on in the half because of the heat (and thank you to the lovely Barnsley Harriers lady who let me cry on her shoulder and the marshalls who were really kind). Only my second race ever but as we're local and the route is my training run anyway I thought I could handle it but five months of pounding the trail in rain, ice, snow, hail and howling gales didn't prepare me for 25 degrees of heat I'm afraid!
Mort, sorry about the 2 hour error in your time. I've tried to correct it, but the software keeps rejecting the correction. Must know something I don't. You'll just have to put up with it, and repeat the time next year!
Completed my first marathon on Saturday - was initially a bit disapointed with my time, but soon realised what a great achievement it was by everyone who took part.
The organisation and support from the marshalls was second to none (were there even a couple of extra water stations?). Having sat on my car bonnet in the blazing sun on Saturday afternoon and said 'never again', I will definitely look to do this one again in the future!
Outstanding job, really well organised, and a total pleasure despite the heat. That was my first marathon, and managed just a whisker under 4hrs, and also technically a PB....
Does no one have a bad word to say about this race?
Ooh I have just remembered, I told a water station person that I would put in a complaint about the jelly babies having melted by the time I got there
Ian- How about a Winter White Peak Marathon as well? It could go from the clubhouse, up the hills, along to the HM start and back again to reduce organisation and water stations etc!!!
Mort - sunburn is feeling a lot better now, thank you for asking, hope you feel better soon.
You just don't listen to me do you ? I said Saturday, I'm training for the JW Ultra and retiring after that (with the possible exception of that piddling little amble in Stockport. )
I ran/walked around the course on Saturday with a video camera (does an ipod nano class as a camera?) recording stuff on the walk sections, there's a link to it below .
It's totally raw footage with no editing and (partly) due to the awfulness of my own voice I haven't actually seen it all myself yet. This means it's probably as rough as a badgers backside, rubbish and mostly just me moaning about the heat....... but it's out there if anybody fancies a look.
I don't think there is any dodgy language in it but I'll apologise now just in case
Love the link to the report morticia, I even got a mention I'll frame a copy
No idea who the chap was finishing with exactly the same time as me though, there was certainly no sprint finish. Had anybody been anywhere near me coming into the finish I would almost certainly have been finishing behindthem (???)
Good grief iain!?!! You ran/walked and did some filming and finished 2nd?! Next you'll be telling us you stopped at parsley hay for a picnic and several beers as well- lol! Well done! I will have a look at your link when I am off my mobile internet and back on my computer. Are you doing the north devon marathon? If so, can you give me a piggy back round the course as it probably wouldn't slow you down much, and I would get a big PB!
I'd be up for a summer one in November 2010 - got a score to settle with that course. Even considering doing it on a cool summer day with my wife alongside on her bike, just to set the record straight!
There was no picnic stop, but there was a different type of stop at the toilets just before the turnaround which seemed to cause the feed station marshalls some amusement (Garmin says it cost me a place - ooops)
I've got no plans for the ND Marathon, but as it's only 5miles from my house I may yet show my face.... It's going to be a tough course and that 'little' climb around 16miles should be a nice little leg tester for you.

First time at this one, really enjoyed it.
I'm still thirsty 2 days later!
Well done everyone.
Well done to everyone!

Next year - if the weather is a bit kinder!
Yes, well done all.
Wheels came off for me i'm afraid. 40 mins slower than I was at London but still enjoyed it immensely. Not sure I did at the time though. lol
Don't think i've ever been so pleased to see the finish line.
Marshalls were superb and very encouraging - very many thanks.
See you all next year.
Someone has already logged Mick Hall photos on this site, check them out though if you have not spotted it at www.mickhall-photos.com.

When can we book for next year?!
THANKS!

LOL @ Ian's computer rejecting Mort.
Mort - regards Clairsters piccie : she knew I was waiting at the finish.
Re yours : probably the same reason.

Thanks again to IAn and the crew. A wonderful job done under tough tough conditions.

We had a winter marathon in May 2008, and May 2009.

Hi Iain,
I really enjoyed your video.
I might give your walking technique a try one day
Proper Bo- You could try my walking technique instead of Iain's and then you'd get an extra 2 and a quarter hours worth of White Peak joy
Great video Iain! Made me feel sick and tired just watching it (in an ill, not bored way I mean!)
Thanks morticia & proper bo.
