Steve, you really should have tried any food options in training, what is good for one person will not be good for another, ditto the waking/eating bit
Get there about an hour before, join a loo queue, dump your bags and the start is just outside .... nothing more stressful than that really and enjoy the day!
M...eldy, Thanks for the advice. happy with the type of food etc, more of a case of when. Tested the gels with the long runs and got some that seem to work. I am just very bad at eating before I run first thing in the morning. My longest runs have been later in the day. Tend to rely on what I have eaten the night before with some porridge for breakfast. I think I had better to keep to this.
When I supported I went to Alfriston so we could have tea and cake, then after time to get round to Lttlington to see them though there (also tea room and pub for food), then Exceat (tearoom if still in need of cake!), then Birling Gap (yet another tearoom) then the finish
I was surprised how muddy it was for the Lewes 10, though luckily I wore trail shoes. On the other hand, it is not often that you need trail shoes for either the Warren Hill or Whitbread Hollow cross countries and I doubt that I will wear them at Whitbread Hollow tomorrow.
lots of steps runningmachine after CP3 - about 17 miles I think. bit of a killer but they are over quite quickly.
I was going to do Doyen this year but not paying £50 for it...bit disappointed really. Never mind- lots of other exciting races to do. Benfleet 15 in the new year has some lovely mud in it -really nice cheap and cheerful new year option.
Can we have this weather for saturday please? Its perfect out there?!
Thanks for the update Nicko....I had a rubbish run this morning here in the Midlands...just hope my poor legs can manage the distance next Saturday...guess I need to rest this week, but I don't really do the r word!
Bottom of the chalk track from Jevington and Friston Forest trails. The field into FF after CP3 in Litlington can get a bit "chewy" as well. If it's pissing down - a few other places as well!
2. The steps?
FF after CP3 - 2 sets. one as you enter the forest, then another after West Dean as you leave. uneven height and width so bloody hard work especially with 20 hilly miles in the legs
if it doesn't rain this week then I reckon road shoes will be the order of the day as Nicko says
Random question time (for those that know me, obviously as opposed to everyone)
Does anyone who is going to be at Beachy have a tiara stuffed away in the loft that they might feel able to lend me please? I promise I'll look after it.
My fifth attempt. I'm sure it was sunny (or at least dry/calm) for the first three - last year was purgatory!!
I'm glad I looked through all these posts ... when you are in your own world of misery on the ' sisters everybody else looks as though they are breezing it.
Agree with the person who commented on the riverbank - last year I went flat on my face, stood up and fell flat on my back ... worthy of a Laurel and Hardy film.
Most dramatic moment for me last year was coming down the hill towards CP1 - running in a grotty misty fug until a little way down the hill when we broke through the cloud and the whole panorama seemed to burst into view.
Foolishly set myself a target of 5 hrs the first time I ran this event and just missed it by 13 minutes. Have been coming back to try and crack it in the succeeding 3 years - maybe this time??

I dont eat much in the morning but then again everyone is different and there is enough of a running buffet on the course
Many thanks, Rupert.
Anyone suggest any other good off roaders after this one, might give hell runner down south a go! any info appreciated! Not straight after obviously!
Can anyone tell me, please, where are:
1. The muddy sections, and
2. The steps?

Never found that much mud at Beachy even when the weather has been vile, yes I agree some of todays weather next week would be smashing

Def be road shoes for me....I find the harder trails too rough without a bit of cushioning.
Forecast looks good for this week but rain on saturday! lol!

Oh blimey, I was hoping for better weather this year, ran it for the first time last year and it was such a shame that I couldn't enjoy the views!
I can't remember the course - your starting to scare me!
