I'm just trying to work out why you're moving across the floor. If you're doing the crunches correctly, your legs and shoulders are off the floor, so only your back's making contact. It's then a smooth movement as your right elbow makes contact with the left knee as you bring it up and vice versa. Have a look at the vid on page 1 and see if you can suss it out from there.
Manx - I do my crunches on a mat or a rug - that might stop you getting bruised.
Also Manx and Home Time, if you keep your core steady it shouldn't roll around and be vulnerable to rubbing and/or bruising.
