Newham 10K

Flat Footed

Anyone else running this?, billed as running through the Olympic site but well see how much we get to see.

Just got my race pack through and have been sent a white number which seems from the booklet to be for the 5-10 year olds race, so just sent of a quick email to the organisers to check.

I know i need help but not that much!!

As far as I can make out from the map..... the olympic bit is a lap around the temporary bus station they've built to shuttle all construction workers on and off site - think this will eventually form the olympic plaza so we can imagine!

Still get a pretty close up view though but, unlike last year's Newham 'classic' it doesn't go up on to the last stretch of the Greenway - where the really good views of the stadium are to be had (and where the pictures on the event website where taken - at the 'classic').

But on the plus side this means there won't be the horrible bottlenecks that on that course last year

My mother-in-law is doing this race, so if not rain I will come down and support  the race.

I'm running 10K........my wife is doing 2.5k family jog with no practice at all (for last 10 years). i said a bit of training might come in handy but she said 'pah'! i'll need to to scoop her off the road i think at the end!

The family jog thing (2.5k) is 9am start and 10K is at 9.30am (so i can hand over children, baton style at 9.30 I hope!)

I am coming down to watch my mother in law, friend of the VLM sub 5hr thread and a club mate. May jog round a bit of it with mother in law as she will be at the very back of the pack.

Ed - I hope some runners don't turn up late because RW says your race starts at 10am. Now I will have to get up even earlier to get there for 9am.

yes. they definitely say it's 9.30 in the letter. although 10am would have been better idea all round !

ed - we brought her a Garmin 205 as she is more of a walker with a bit of a jog. It took her 1hr 33 to d 6.91 miles yesterday.

I need to get on a train at Dagenham Heathway at 8am next Sunday. Need to leave early as will be bringing my son to watch his nan. Going to be very stressful as he is autistic, will have to bring sisters camera so that he can take photos of the runners.

ran 10K in richmond park in terrential downpour yesterday. dragged myself out of bed - but worth it, great location

Not looking forward to my 18 mile long run this week  Going out the door in a min for a 3 mile run as a friend said he didn't think I would do it in todays weather. Well that is like a red rag to a bull lol. Time to get the gear on and get wet.

Just heard back from the organisers and they confirmed that I have got the right coloured number even though the instruction book says I should be in the 5-10 years old race. Apparently the book is mis-printed!!

Glad I did my 18 miler yesterday would not have fancied it today

Good luck everyone tomorrow. Not looking forward to getting up early tomorrow to come and support mother-in-law as I am knackered from yesterdays 18 mile run. Hoping to bring my yellow foam hand that me or my son can wave at you.

I'm doing this. Disappointed the route is only a small fragment of the olympic park - that's kind of the reason I entered. Ah well. Good luck to all entered.

Just back. Brilliant event. Loved the flatness. Great organisation but the route would have been better reversed so the runners get a big long view of the olympic stadium coming towards them from the green way.

Good thanks Tracey - new PB of 1.02.50 for me.  It was great that there were some supporters along the route on such a cold day.  I hope your mother in law got on okay!

Caitlin - my mother in law did it in 1:11:03. Think she is still on a bit of a high as she went back to the park.  Got it was cold out there today.
