"Western women that breastfeed after a year aren't doing it for the baby, they are doing it for themselves. "
yeah
and???
i am happy to admit that there is nothing, and i mean nothing to beat the feeling of closeness you get when you are feeding a baby and i am lucky to have been able to do it three times
Actually we have no say in the matter. It is what we are genetically programmed to do. That is why those who choose either to not have children or choose a same sex relationship are living unatural selfish lives.
I've had some massive arguments on the subject of breastfeeding, mainly with a group of women who come out with things like not breastfeeding virtually amounts to child cruelty, and that not breastfeeding is as harmful to a child as smoking around a newborn baby!
I'm not an earth mother type and found b/fing a right turn off. Whilst feeding they were mammaries....not breasts. I had to wear a bra 24/7 for support and a very unsexy bra with a clip to open up. You stuff a pad in said unsexy bra to soak up the incontinence. I still had frequent moments of wet t-shirts but not in a good way. Mr P would come near me and they'd flood milk everywhere. We both hated it. I still felt terrible giving up at nearly 6 months with the last.
I fed because I'd chosen to have babies and was programmed by the breast feeding mafia that I was an inadequate mother if I didn't.
I was given carnation milk (diluted) as a baby and am amazed that I am alive to this day to describe that abuse tbh....
I will tell my girls that b/fing has pluses and minuses but is not the key to be sainted as a mother!!! enjoy their baby, the father of that baby and be happy.
I'd personally not choose to feed to please the mafia but nor would I stop feeding to please a man either. As Lurks says it's our choice and should work for you.
my friend was found collapsed just short of the top of her stairs having tried to be superwoman after her first child was born she was really struggling to breast feed, (and the baby had excema so extra pressure) was sending out all the thank you cards for presents recieved, trying to keep her house tidy and dinner on the table etc it was too much, being advised to stop feeding took a massive weight from her and she was able to carry on, guilt free and be the mum her baby needed and not the exhausted wreck she had become trying to do everything perfectly
so i am no way breast feeding mafia the luxury of living in the west is that we have the choice we have clean running water and access to sterilising facilities
i still believe breast is best - but not at the expense of your physical or mental health
just saying that i totally agree with lurker as well................
My best advice would be to let the housework go and especialy ironing..started doing less and less ironing with each child and now I can't remember the last time I ironed...............
but yes some mothers can't breastfeed for a number of reason.usually this is linked to stress so the more they find it harder the more stressed them become .a bit like impotency............
I thought the problem with impotency was they never found it harder.

Tee hee! I have that on my laptop as the wallpaper - it gets commented on regularly for some reason!

I competely agree lurker
its hard enough adjusting to becoming a parent as it is, without adding to it, as your friend proves

Me too...
When they are tiny there are so many better things to do than housework!!!
Enjoy and treasure every minute... they grow up sooOOooo fast!!!
Why do some people drive at 25 mph when the limit is 50 mph, then speed up to 40 once you get into a 30 mph zone?
And why do some other people drive at 40 mph everywhere regardless of the speed limit?
