Hi Andreia - I would suggest two runs of 20 mile if that is possible, make sure you do the last of these at least 4 week out from Marathon day, if you can only manage one then so be it !
Do you ever still wear your really bright coloured check suits, from your "Don't forget your toothbrush" and "TFI Friday" era? They were very... individual - I hope you didn't just bin them when your career plummeted.
Thanks for joining us and answering so many questions Paul (TM and kk, I've asked if he can tie-up your questions shortly).
Don't forget to check in again at the beginning of April - Nick Morgan (Lead Sport Scientist at Lucozade Sport) will be joining us once again to answer any last-minute nutrition or hydration questions you might have before the big day.
Tricky - sorry for the delay, thanks for clearing that up for me,its been a long day, that sound about right 7/8 like you said its all done on tried legs, on the day you are going to be well rested, and your MP will feel 6/7 on effort, My tip is to write your 5 k splits on your arms, 10k being Cutty Sark, half way, just after Tower bridge, be carful mile 2 & 3 slightly down hill, if you hit the Cutty sark on time, jobs a good un !
Guys do not BLOW IT NOW you are nearly there, listen to you body, train smart, the best coach you will ever have is yourself, undercook the last week leading up to the marathon, and undercook the first half of the marathon, its great to be passing all those guys who have overcooked it, RW says its 85% be one of the 15%
I'm worried. I am training for the Brighton Marathon but my LR's are not going well. I have done 1x18, a 16, a 15,14 and 2xHM's but the last two weeks i have only managed 14 and 15 miles as my legs just seem very fatigued, so fatigued that i cannot carry on (knee is hurting also!). I am running 35 miles per week with 2 very good interval and tempo runs on tues and thurs.
Should i rest more in the week so i can get at least 1 or 2 good 20 milers in before the race?
I find I never do as well on the day as I do in training. I know I can do it physically (London will be my 5th marathon) but, I always start to struggle with negative thoughts. Any tips? I would love to blast a PB and get the time I really deserve
If you look on the 1st post of this thread, this question & answer session was only open for a short time on 5th March. As far as I am aware it is now closed.
I'm due to run the London Marathon in 4 weeks. I have not run for 6 weeks. I have run one marathon before and am aware of the lack of training I have missed out on. I cannot defer my place. I'd like to take part and just try to get round? What can I do in 4 weeks to make it less painful and not injure myself running a marathon with very little training. I am 34 and not overweight, I also circuit train once a week for an hour?
Last week I signed up to do the Leeds 1/2 marathon on 9 May (in 6 weeks!!!) for the Candlelghters Childrens cancer charity. So, I did my first run for a loong time on Sunday and realise I have some work to do (I asked my wife to drop me 3.4 miles away and regretted it after 200 yards - but kept going by splitting between running, pauses /stretches and some sporadic walks (between two lamposts) and finished in about 45 mins - v.slow but picked up & felt better toward the end, when the lactic-acid-feeling subsided...)
I used to run lost when younger (am now mid-30's) and, based on this 1st run have a guage of the level of training I need to do... but hoped you could give me some guidance... I have lookedat the smartCoach and the beginners index and not sure if either are right for me - could you advise on a schedule to help me through the 12+ mile, I would love to do a reasonable time but, in this instance just want to enjoy the run.

Good Luck
Candy - He's a lot richer than me !
Percieved effort - between 1 to 10. 10 being total max effort
MP run this week felt like a 7/8. Is that normal due to tired legs ?
nor mine
kk - was this not an answer to your question:
Oh yeah......Hows the injury anyway?

Appreciate the advice !
2 questions for Paul.
Should my long run stop at 3hrs/20 miles?
Are jelly babies good for carbs on the run?
