Pirate LG Kit Order Thread

If there is the demand for new kit I will coordinate a new order via LG.  Delivery takes up to 3 months, I will do what I can to hurry things through so with a bit of luck we should have the kit late June/early July.

- I have put a rough guide to prices, I will contact LG and confirm.
- We need to reach a minimum of 16 units to order any item.
- Initially we'll stick to the key items but LG also do cycling tops, jackets etc.  If you want anything like this add it to the list and we'll order once we reach 16 units.
- Sizing, LG kit comes up on the small side, suggest you find someone a similar size to you who has LG kit and get their advice, or post on the thread and im sure people will try their best to advise you.
- I'll confirm the order/payment process in a few days but ill be keeping it simple.

  • thats cheaper than it was 2 years ago barley...................you haven't forgotten anything have you??
  • They are only estimates, if im honest ive not a clue until I ring them.

  • Oh and there maybe inport duty, tax and postage to add.  Ill come up with some as close to poss estimates in the next week.  Put your name down, if the price is prohibitive you can always take it off.

  • JD/Donald - Is there some sexy open source widgets we can rig up on the pirate website (some list/survey functionality) that can keep track of the orders/quantities better than this rubbish RW forum software ? Even a spreadsheet on googledocs that peeps can add details to, and we can track ordered/paid/delivered status ?

(Does it show that I'm a IT management type in real life, and therefore have lots of *really* cool ideas that need other actually talented people to magically implement ? I'll do the gannt chart, business case, powerpoint slides and make the virtual coffees though if it helps) image
  • Barley I much preferred the LG kit.  Do you know what material they'll use though?  I love the old-style down-stripes version rather than the 'dotty' material they used on the second order.

I could do with a Monaco. image

  • Ooh dear!    dont know what happened to my post,  i'll leave it there to give Schmunks something to think about    image
  • Kanga, there have been some offers of sexing up the order process but its not rocket science!  Im going to just try and keep things simple.
  • Nam, ill try and find out, I vaguely remember they made some changes to the material at some point?

wondered about that. image thought the old ones with the downstripe material were nicer and fitted better.
  • Kanga, yes there is a way of providing a fairly simple way of collecting the order information. The psof forum allows you to set up and have a poll. This allows people to "vote" for different options and you can allow each person as many "votes" as you like. That person oncethey have voted can also change thier votes.

So if each option was a piece of kit, someone could "vote" for the bits of kit they want. If they change thier mind they can change this when ever they want. This would immediatly give the numbers of each bit of kit.

However, for someone to easily find out who wanted which bit of kit, rather than simply quantly of each will require some changes to the code. This can be done (there are variouse changes already published) but it will probably be a few days before I could do this.

If there are not too many types/sizes of kit each option could include the size. i.e.

    Tri Shorts (S)
    Tri Shorts (M)
    Tri Shorts (L)
    Tri Shorts(XL)

e.t.c. but this might make the poll rather long... The alternative would be to work out the sizes later.

Don't know if this would help?

    Me too image

I think that was the only quality gripe with LG.
  • Could do Donald, just thinking the easier and more automated the process the easier it would be to manage, check quantities etc, and likely to get re-used for all the pirate bling we keep dreaming up. I also have an abiding dislike of lists & XLS spreadsheets when fully blown web enabled data base backed ecommerce solution can be implemented image
  • I think that language must be Australian or something?image
  • Lets see how things go, I dont really think we need a web enabled data base backed ecommerce solution to order 40,50,60 bits of kit.

We may need a robotical automated warehouse despatch carrier pidgeon transit thingy image

    Rock on Barlos !
  • Well volunteered image
  • I also wrote and published a document for a comprehensive solution to this ordering problem. This was posted on the kit ordering thread but I didn't get any comments so nothing has happened http://www.psof.org.uk/PirateOrderingSolution.2010.02.15.pdf

I did start implementing some of this but stopped due to lack of feedback. I'm probably not in a position to do much about this at present as in the middle of a house move...

The Poll method of collecting quantities would be much easier to set up for now though.

  • Ah, didn't see it, will check it out. You're not just a pretty face !

  • If my IT skills are like my pretty face then we are all in trouble. image
  • A very comprehensive analysis ! I think just something simple that will collate the demand to easily see min quantities to allow orders to be placed is a start. It needs to be as easy as a spreadsheet or no-one will use it (Bitter IT lesson #1) Would be ideal to hold stock etc but not sure anyone's got the time, funds, or inclination to be a defacto retailer given the nebulous nature of the Pirates. We could all vote for different kit/colours tomorrow and the stockist is stuffed.

Maybe just the survey thing for starters ?
  • babelfish anyone ??
  • Kanga I agree. I've just taken a quick look at the poll software. It's currently limited to 10 items.

However if we ever wanted to have sizes we could have a different poll for each piece of kit. I will look into it further during the next few days.

  • M..o.useM..o.use ✭✭✭

Donald - it's a popular myth that we need sizes when we do a kit order thread.  All we need are quantities of items.  Sizes are req'd with order and payment.
