Blimey. I might manage a few miles recovery at lunch in lieu of anything tomorrow, but even after an easy run yesterday would struggle with more than that!

I'm off for a couple of weeks after today chaps, so if there's anything afoot, let me know.
Not sure on various parkruns etc as of yet, but socialish runs - all good.

ps how useless is the Wokingham half entry page now?

Can't sort on club name. And no ability to sort by predicted times that we always enjoyed.

Looks like there's 56 pages of 20 entries, and a few extras on page 57, so not even past the 1,125 marker yet. With a 3,000 limit, this won't be close to being a sell out.
Used to be a make sure you're in by the new year job

    Some good training going on

Reg - Good to see that it's coming together now, SG - Wow that's big mileage, is it just general fitness for the Wokey build up? Bus - Good run too, yes ankle seems to be OK now, I'm a lucky bugger usually with injuries - pays not to be one of those perfect specimens where bits keep going wrong and pinging off :)

PeteM - Decent Parkrun and session

So was along to the Bedford xmas handicap race yesterday - up to the town bridge, a loop the other side, back up to the Town bridge and a long run back to the track. Bedford team manager in his wisdom sent me off with a youngster going well and a former team GB xc athlete (Jack Goodwin) - so I saw them for 5 secs!

Didn't get the wooden spoon but felt really hard with a 16.12. But - the course is only 2.92 I think, so probably low 17's - felt that sort of time. Definitely a bit coldy today - but have entered the Aylesbury 5k Boxing day - what could go wrong?? Hopefully no one turns up and I can nab a voucher.

Nice turnout Simon, not a bad one when an under weather cigar on gets you that.

Just a base period - nothing too fast, but mileage aiming at top end.
Looking at this year's Jan, the sessions I did were club stuff like 4 or 5min segments, either round a hilly loop or just round a housing loop. Probably the equivalent of threshold stuff.
That and what ended up being 7 x 15milers.

So this time round I'll make sure I crank out plenty of 15s, and try and get some decent tempos in for a couple of weeks, and then some faster reps later on.
Feel a bit off at the mo, but will take the positives of the mileage for now.

    Happy Christmas folks.

Cheeky 9 as it seemed a tough ask to do a session.
    That's plenty tho

    See you soon

Merry Christmas, just an easy 8 for me, saving the strides for tomrrow.

Luxurious lay in and faff around today, meant heading off for a session around midday.

To progress things and add a little dash of speed back in I went for the tempo bookend

4x200m, 16 laps tempo, 4x200m over at the track.

A chap and his daughter were on there at the same time, she was just doing 200s. Probably explained why I started the 16laps -aim of 1.30 or under, at a ridiculous 1.22!

1.22,1.26,1.27 for the first 3 laps probably didn't help to make it a marvellous experience, but settled at a string of 1.28s and finally into 1.29s for the last 6 or so.

200s ranged from 35 to 38. Mostly the bottom end.

Interesting session, as when you're doing the 200s you're thinking, these need to be quicker come summer.

But when you do say a 36, you're thinking, 1.12, and i'm aiMing for 1.30 for the tempo, that'll feel really comfy in comparison :)

Which it does...for a while! Then it feels like you're going decently. But in fairness, 1.28 and under is threshold rather than the slightly slower aim.

    Morning
hope you all had good Christmases 🎅

Cabbage Patch 4 for me today and only my second road race this year. No real idea what to expect, but vaguely aimed for 6:15 pace, as that is a wee bit faster than I've managed in short tempos recently. After a longer than planned warm up, taking the 'scenic' route, and a relaxed approach to the 11 o'clock start, off we set along the Thames, weaving in and out of the Boxing Day families and their dogs out for a walk.

I tried to run on feel rather than pace, so didn't notice the first mile go by in 6:06. Second mile slipped by in 6:15, in a small group of what looked like vets. 3rd mile was a bit twisty and slipped back to 6:17. The 4th mile (actually 0.9) showed my lack of race fitness and tempos over a couple of miles, and I slowed noticeably with half mile to go, being dropped by the two vets. I eventually finished 12th, in 24:23 (6:15 pace).

Although 25s per mile slower than when I did it a couple of tears back, I'm ok with that as nothing hurts now and it gives something to build on.

Where is everyone then? Come on Simon - I want the lowdown on the Aylesbury BD 5k and the Feathers debacle

7 grumpy and slow miles to the station this morning. Legs weren't happy!

Nice to see you racing on the road again. 25secs a mile down? You'll eat back into that soon.

10 today. Some hills n bits but was bemused to see the watch reckoned i was hitting 185s in the last miles and peaking at 196 :dizzy:
Must have got a bit cold and gone haywire as 196 might be what id expect racing an off-road super humid5miler and being on the verge of obliteration. Not finishing a moderate run on a moderate little hill.

Good session SG, likewise Bus with the CB4 - no niggles is good too!

Yes, not a brilliant sporting Boxing day yesterday.

So walked up to the pub at about 8.40 as it was supposed to be open at 8.30 so we could get sorted. First thing to go wrong was my online entry didn't register so had to write another entry out, no bother though. The pub was shut so everyone was shivering outside. The race director then started to gently throw a water bottle to the top floor outside as supposedly that's where they were living! Anyway, I went for a warm up - and by the time I had got back they were going into the pub - apparently they had gone in the back fire door to tell them to get up! Warm up felt ok - felt a bit crap when I woke up, but a couple of Anadin Extra down me and some tea and felt good...although the hill back into Aylesbury did feel tougher than the jog out on the warm up.

Anyway, we set off, notice Owain Jones in the front 3 and Phil Sewell too - and the front 3 are in a pack with me 10m behind - first k 3.06. That's the way it stayed really in the first 2k, but they slowly pulled away after we had go into the town foe the first time - I found the hills tough due to being a bit under the weather.

Second lap they had left me completely and I felt tired - and I went wrong in town which led me out into runners starting their 2nd lap! idiot! so lost about 20 secs doing that - so by the time I got back up into the town and finish I had annoyingly ended up with 17.01. so that's about right, would have probably done 16.45 with out the detour.

Then the Feathers were in a strop (beacause of them breaking in and throwing the bottle up) and wouldn't serve us any beer!! Bit childish, although the woman on Facebook from the pub said that they had opened on time. Weird.

So feel worse today - what a surprise...and that course had agitated the Achilles again (I thought it would tbh). Then Spurs thrashed Bmth 5-0 and we watched MK lose the ICE Hockey :)

Reasonable time in the circs Simon

The Feathers thing is all a bit weird! I particularly liked the incredibly rude and abusive response to the second review of the Feathers on FB posted by another runner from a bloke who was clearly a some-time bouncer at the pub. I liked it so much that I reported it to FB as harassment and it was gone this morning! The idiot even puts the club where he now works on his FB profile - I was tempted to tell his employer about the type of person who associates himself with them!

Not surprising mind, as the feathers has a reputation for being the grimmest pub in Aylesbury, but a good place to go if you like a fight!

Nice ten SG - don't trust wrist heart rates. They lie

An unsavoury character working as a bouncer Bus? I cannot believe it :|

I vaguely recall years ago that some other pub on the same square hosted the race. No idea of the name, or whether it's still there though.

40miles for the week done then, 2,960 on the 2018 clock.

40 needed for 3,000.... not worth squeezing 10 a day out, especially with a rest day needed one day...and not that big a thing but would have made a nice round number wouldn't it :)

Getting 2019 cracking is a better idea.

He described himself as something like an "entrance services technician"

Go on, do another 40 - you know you want to! I've got 27.1 left to do by Sunday to get to 2300. Doable, but tight

    Probably shouldn't.

For one thing, I'm on an almost 2 week break, and we all know it's one of those mad things where it's actually harder to structure your running in with all day to do it!

And afterwards, you feel more knackered then when going straight to work after. Bonkers.

    Yeah, but 3000 miles....

I wrongly remembered last year as being 3,000 on the dot.

Looking back it was 3,220.5. Whoops. The suspicious 3,000 on the dot must have been 2016.

But this year had way more races, so you can't have it all.

    Quiet again today.
Weird run last night - despite racing the day before and very sluggish in the morning, I was positively bouncy on the way home!
8M at lunch today, with the middle 6 at something approaching MP effort to give 7:05 pace overall. Bit of a tester as it is a big chunk of a ten mile route I've used previously n the run up to a HM, doing the middle 8 as a progression from MP to HMP effort. In the run up to Wokey, toward the end of January this year, I did the whole 10 miler at 6:43 pace, so some way to go!

I'll break up the SG/Bus show then.

It's that time of year when Wokey entices you out of the mud a little more, Bus! Nice few runs there.

I'm in a recovery week so not much to report other than a few easy runs. The plan only had 30 in for the week but given the time I've had on my hands, I've already done 30 with two days to go. I'll probably do an easy 6 on Sunday to get to 36 which is a reasonable cutback from the 41 last week.
Tuesday is the final split tempo effort, 20 and 18 minutes. Fortunately this is NYD so I can use Parkrun for the second one and I'll probably run the course for the first one too. I just hope it starts on time so I get the right recovery interval.

When you say on time...do you mean 9.05? Ive never known one to start at 9 by the time the jibber jabber takes place. Wycombe probably the worst for it.

Thought a 7.05 was a tidy 8mile average bus, so that explains it then. What are you using as mp these days? 645?

Vaguely considered curlys 250th tomorrow or the triple tue but not really feeling either and i see phil is doing the same as last year. The slough two and to and from parts.

I think that can stay as a one off novelty for me

Yes, I am banking on it being 5 minutes late. I'll be timing the first interval to finish at 8:30 or 10:30, depending on which one I do. I can jog about then whilst they talk shite about some loser addicts that have done hundreds of them.

Sod's law dictates it'll be the opposite of what you want. If you want it sharpish, you'll be held up listening to Ken's speech about his 1,000th, but if you're pushing it late, it'll get going at 9.01.

I wasn't going to bother pushing to get to the 3,000, but as time has rolled on, I'm at 2,970 with 3 days to go.

I can't be leaving that alone can I...

Reg - how very dare you

3000 IS a very nice number SG

MP at the very slowest end of a sub 3 currently, so 6:52 ish, but it was more on effort than time today, as mile 5 included a sizeable climb!

You're right about the mud Reg - though possibly more to do with the fact that in the last weeks of the run up to Wokey, the cold dark swamps begin to lose their appeal! Tempted with a parkrun NYD myself- possibly Wendover...
