like the nice use of the pun! lol. hope everyone has stayed injury free, i suppose the best thing this week is more rest.....good luck everyone on saturday
Heavy rain should make it interesting. I can't think of any obvious places to stash your bike ORB unless you email the organsers - they must put the coaches somewhere. None of the nearby stations have bike docks do they?
ORB - I feel really bad about telling you about what happened to Joe's bike, especially as he had to cycle 30 miles home after doing a marathon on a damaged bike.
I think Joe's mistake was leaving his bike in full view of the road (not that that excuses vandalism). I'm sure there are places that a bike could be stashed that'd be safe but I'd not want to be quoted on that!
my training has been crap if i can call it training and i have more things injured than working however this was only meant to be a training run for beachy head (don't ask how a dead flat race helps as it's a good enough excuse)
who is running at what pace so i can tag along for 20miles or so (ideally 8min 45 pace) then i can die or even better take a cab home
Last run completed this morning, ill just sit back and let the taper madness take me now....
Ill be getting the bus from Hackney Orb, assuming I can find it....
Mordo I couldnt tell you what pace ill be running at, in the past 3 weeks ive been running much faster but i think its too late for my MP to be fast enough for you. I would love to bag another sub-4, and that had been my initial plan, but now it seems highly unlikely.
Last run for me tonight. I've been tapering using the "getting a cold" technique to ensure minimal activity and [assuming I make it out this evening] I'll only have managed three runs of ~40-50 minutes in the last fortnight before the race.
Now all I have to do is hope my wife doesn't go into labour half way through the race. I'm under strict instructions that if she calls and I'm more than four miles from the end then I have to find the nearest public transport and get home sharpish... So if you see someone looking stressed and suddenly turning off the marathon course, don't follow him
Only started running again start of last week after a 3 week lay off for injury, so I'm aiming for 8:30 pace at best. I have the wife planning to drive down and watch at half way in case I need to pack it in there and get a lift back with her.
Assuming I make it past half way the wife is going to pick me up at the finish. Not being used to the 'Big Smoke', is there car parking at the finish? I've worked out that it is down the A10 and left to get to Hackney, but apart from that I have no idea where to send the woman
It's my first marathon and I'm getting anxious by the minute... I don't think I'll be very fast (managed to injure my left knee five months ago, it's okayish now but I don't think I'll run like the wind...). I hope I manage to run it in five hours... Anybody out there with the same estimate? I would really appreciate a running buddy as I'm absolutely petrified that I'll get lost...
hi katiecom just under 4 would be what i have in mind
gymfreak i might hang onto you for dear life (i am also in for the robin hood but not sure i will bother as too many injuries but i am toying with the ideas of the dunstable downs half or 20miler having done it in the last few years as a warm up to beachy)
BW77: According to the website "Parking is limited at street parking available on Homerton Road, just beside Hackney Marsh, E9 5PF.".
That's a big long road which looks like it's got a fair amount of parking on it. If you want to take a look at photos of the road, drop the postcode into Google Maps then use streetview. (If you don't know how to use streetview, just drag the little yellow man image at the top of the zoom bar to the place on the map you want to look at).
Just look out for arrows when you come to places that there are no marshalls. You will be alright once you get to the start of the marathon. If you are at the back you will probably be followed by a nice sweaper on a bike. I was followed by a lovely First Aid man last year and then a lovely lady both on bikes.
Thank you again, Tracey G, I feel much better already... I suppose I'm nervous because I don't know what to expect really (well, apart from running a lot
Tatiana - apart from the wiggly bit through the nature reserve where there are both arrows and marshalls it is very straightforward as you are following the canl, occasionally crossing from one side to another. The organisers say they've had double last year's entries so there's also a higher chance of you being in sight of other runners.
Does anyone know where the hackney coach will actually be leaving from?
Seems that a surcharge of £3.00 is made when entering through The Runners World facility; use the organisers online entry and save. I wish that I had known.....

Anyone else aiming for 4-ish?

oh yes and i am doing the "it might rain and my shoes might not get dry for a week" tapering plan
