I would maybe look at 10 at the weekend Mark at a steady pace, you will be ok come next Sunday, If I wasn't going for a faster time than last year I would run with you, take it steady and aim for 1.55 is my advice, oh and use the loo before the race!! image

Will do see you at the usual spot for a hi five before we go anyway.

I'll be there 0930 there will be a few of us meeting I think have a good weekend and stay fit

10.5 miles done yesterday, went quite quick done in 1.27 so should be good for Sunday...............it was abit windy too though a fairly flat route. What did you do Rod? Will do a little run five maybe tomorrow and then three or four Thursday. Working Friday am then up in the afternoon to Prudhoe..........see Mo Farah is turning up on the GNR weekend.

    Have a good week all.image

Thats a decent run Mark, I had a more than decent Swineshead 10, an undulating course with a fair bit of wind especially mile 2, did 77.35 @ 7.42more than pleased with that, gym tomorrow, 7 miles with Kim on Wednesday, club race 4.6 miles "steady" Thursday then on to Newcastle. I feel decent know and am as prepared as I can be though not exactly where I want to be.

Roll on SUnday.........looking forward to it now.............great run Rod you are on for a good run..........have a safe week.

If you aim at nothing you'll hit it everytime.

Did a nice 4.44 miles yesterday lunch in the windy sunshine in 37.5 mins feeling good.........reasonably fit, not as good as last year but should be okay to chase Rod round. I think 1.55 is possible depending on the wind and traffic............

Have a good Wednesday all..............got half a day off to do some jobs and then working Thursday and Friday am then heading up the M1 to the north.

the thread is hanging in there just.i am heading up tomorrow and in Sunderland tomorrow night and near Durham Saturday, just sorting out hotel VW and all my kit,did 7 miles yesterday with Kim and had a coffee and carrot cake after and a good old catch up so that was nice, club race this evening at steady pace. I came 53rd out of 170 on Sunday, pretty pleased with that.

Quite happy with the GNR this year much better than last year though overheated in the middle miles but rained on the last mile so that helped......great run generally considering the year I have had.

Well done to Rod excellent run.image

Hi guys - think this thread should be re-named the Mark and Rod thread!! Sorry been a bit of a deserter over the summer - 3 weeks away and then so much on since I've been back.

You boys did great at the GNR, really well done and Mark so good to see you back on your feet! How is the back holding up?

I've entered Bedford half and started my 12 week schedule. Did 33 miles last week so feeling ahead of the game a bit and enjoying getting back into some structured running and having some focus.

Just done a four miler to get the stiffness out of the legs down the Dale and up through the tunnel at Monsal Head. 34 mins... Back sore after the drive to birmingham today for a competition law seminar, that was fun!!!
Great to see some of you guys back after the summer, must be the dark nights got you back in front of the computer.

i've been a bit lazy since GNR, went out to do 8 Tuesday but did 4.5 then had a guiness and a bag of crisps in the bar, scrubbed the training yesterday as well, 8 miles tonight though and Oxford half marathon Sunday

You are a glutton for punishment Rod, have a good un. Running is your life...............
  • Options
Well funnily enough I don't think it is really......But you get out what you put in, target for this weekend is 1.57 1.59.59 am pacing 3 of our club ladies who want to get sub 2 hours.
  • Options
All the best Rod, have a good un.............great of you to pace the club ladies round.  Could do with getting some more folk running in our village.......off for a trot at lunch.......
  • Options
well they are tough runners all of them can do 15 miles plus on a Sunday, they just need the belief they can do it, hopefully i will give them that belief...........It was a good GNR this year except I was a little focussed on getting my target time, maybe next year i will do a steadier one, we should aim to get you to 1.45 Mark image
  • Options
I know I can get there if I can train without getting injured. I am thinking more hills must be my way forward to toughen me up mentally. Another 45 seconds quicker and I would have had a PB...........and on mile 9 when the sun was out I was starting to wilt.......when really I should have toughened up and got going ait more........generally pleased though..............If I could have stuck with the girl from Buxton who I met at the start I would have made it but she was heading for 1.43 so abit quick for me.......Lee was pleased he got under two hours at 1.58.
  • Options

you have more than enough potential i would recommend a couple of 10 mile races to get your pace faster, the one i did sure helped me, Lee did ok by the looks.

Just been out in the lovely sunshine for a 5.83 miler along the trail, back in 48.33 mins......legs a bit tight from a big cycle ride on Saturday...............good to hear Rod had another good half at the weekend, well done to him.image

Got the Specialised Elite out today and have ridden in to work the long way, had a ride at lunch and riding the long way home. What a lovely day!! Might have a swim tonight and see if I can drown trying to do the crawl stroke.    Whats next Rod? Need to do another half soon me thinks. Might just do one with my daughter round here on the tops.

    Have a good evening............image

Had a terrible toothache mark for the last 2 weeks even after a trip to the dentist which I don't like.

anyway they have put me on ab's and it has to come out sadly, even at GNR it hurt but the receptionist at the dentist had told me to come back in 6 months rather than in a week to get it diagnosed so I have had 3 weeks of pain for nothing. Still off to the gym now for the first time in 2 weeks......image

  • Options
Ouch not nice, hope you get sorted soon! Hate the dentist, go each yr but not had anything done for ten years but know I need a filling next visit. Enjoy the gym. Just had pasta so might swim or run in a couple of hours. Enjoyed a ride through chatsworth on way home.

its lovely weather hopefully the antibiotics will kick in and I can do a 10 mile SLOW marathon training run in the morning, Abingdon is in 3 weeks image
  • Options

Had a run last night in the dark, dreadful, wont run in the dark again, no street lights in Derbyshire Peak District, just missed the sunset at the top of the hill as too late and the pasta hadn't gone down so a waste really. Never mind. ON the road bike this morning enjoyed the ride in with mist and sunshine everywhere. Might have to venture out at lunch.  We are moving offices in a couple of months and they are putting in a shower so that will be good for training during the winter months for lunch time runs.

Hope the tooth eases off Rod.

Apologies to Facebook users my account has been hacked so if you get any dodgey messages they are not from me I have deactivated it for now as I dont have a smart phone anyway. image

Hello there - hope all is well with everyone.

Took a few weeks off from running but strated back this week and trying to get fit for some cross country during the wonter months.

Am I better with trail shoes or spikes?

  • Options
Inov8 trail shoes I have with nobbly bits on the sole are good for me...............I think Rod has some similar too. No worries if you run on abit of roads too with these.image
