Well Cyber - I did do this event last year '09 (badly) as a Chiltern Harrier, no entry in '08, but did do in '07 (quite well) as a Straggler - so this year I'll be a Tring RC runner and will see what that brings. GMx
cyber, good results all round then, always nice to get through the comeback race....I have my seoncd 10k race tonight after injury at Queen Mother Reservior, weather looks favourable, did the first one last month, windy as anything.....Looks like tonight is going to be wet and still. Hoping to get under 39mins this time out.
I Just took a look at the result for the one time I managed to run this race, as it used to fall on my birthday weekend. And was amazed at the time 46.45. Which at the time was a 10k PB. And that was after not getting to bed till 3.30 the night before, as I went out for an Indian, then to a party at friends house. Who lives less than 1k from the start.
Runners get too hung up on race preperation....top up with water the day before, pasta and an early night....My answer is a few pints of the black stuff the night before, with a fried egg sandwich 2 hours before the race. Got to be honest though, cannot see too many professionals catching on to your race prep.....
I wasn't even sure if I was going to run it the day before. I told Tigeress I would see her there if I managed to get up. I woke at 7.30, And thought wot the hell, lets give it a go. So I rang Tigeress and she got me the last entry in the race. I was having a nice steady run with her to the bottom of the hill, when she said " go on Clive" . I didn't need to be told twice.
Did you see the euro 10k. What a great race. I had to laugh at the interview afterwards when Chris asked," can I have a beer? " And was told," No you've got to get ready for the 5k.
I did see the race, even the professionals crave a beer, only now am I wishing I took my training more seriously....
I did a couple of the Solomon trial races, which generally have some elite off road runners competing. As I crossed the line they were there with their recovery drinks and bars, me, there was a chip van....need I say more.
Not sure wot themomento is this year. they usually try to give something different. One year they gave out a hand towel with Bearbrook 10k on it. Another time a boot bag. I'm going to phone up and find out if there are places left, there should be. But if you are thinking of entering on the day get there early.
I've just spoken to a race offical, and this years momento is a shoe bag. Sorry, but no meddle. I've seen a shoe bag from an earlier race and it was a good momento and it's always nice to have somewhere to put your muddy trainers after a run.
Loved it - great event - good to see so many friends too. How did you fair cyberwebjaws? V.well done MadRunner06. I was thrilled to get a sub60 (just) - at last. Thank you Bearbrook / Up&Running, and of course, RichK. GMx
I had a good race. The first mile was faster than I had planed but it felt good. It took longer to get up the hill than I had expected. But I was glad to hold off a group of runners in a sprint finish. I found it hard but was happy to finish in 51.15. official time 51.42. I started my watch as I crossed the start line.
It was nice to see and have a chat with some old running pals from Bearbrook. A big thanks to the organisers and marshalls, for once again putting on a great race.

A good surprisingly fast race !
It went well. Jade my step daughter picked up first in the u17 cat.
And Sharon was happy to get under the hour in her comeback race.

Was thinking about running the race. Does anyone know whether you get a medal at the end?

There are still places at the moment.
Nice race, though it did warm up a bit. Happy with my time (37.53), slowly getting 10k times down. A big thanks to the organisers and marshals.
How did you all do....??
I did really well, thanks - I got 1,874 photos!! I'll be back to let you know when they're on line
Hope you guys all enjoyed the race. Was gutted not to take part as was marshalling along with the rest of the club.
Any feedback is always well received. Off to check the events ratings.....
