John - not sure on compression gear myself, I used to run in Skins but did not really notice a difference. Know a few who wear socks/leggings for a few hours post training & swear by them.
John- well done on the PB, but I'd rest that leg up for a bit if I was you....
Chris- nice running for the LR
Ran Tregaron Half today- some very "interesting" hills in very rural mid-Wales along the way and then 3m along a potholed (and flooded today) track across Tregaron Bog before rejoining tarmac for last 2m. Very wet, but forecast gale force winds didn't show up 1:30.11 for me- 3.02 faster than last year on same course, so got to be happy- just a bit annoyed at missing out on sub 1.30
My splits paint a good picture of the undulations: 6:06(not downhill, just over-excited!) 6:43 6:57 7:00 6:35 7:30 6:49 7:10 6:48 6:55 7:05 6:59 6:53 39
10 x 800m for me today, going to try this as a regular session for a few weeks & see if get any improvement. All within a second either side of 3:18 - must try harder !!!
TH - Like the idea of having a something to look forward to after a hard session - will ask my better half if she has any ideas !!! Am doing Wrexham 1/2m on 27th Feb, possibly Stafford 20 in March then London in April. - how about you?
Did a 10m faster tempo on sunday, dark/wet but went well, 1:18:04 @ 7.48 pace, a Pb for me. 4 weeks til St. annes HM, aiming for something under 8mm pace.
Chris: how did the training day go the other w/end, sorry I couldn't make it?
JR: I suffer from calf cramps, so used compression socks and electrolyte tablets to run my sub4 mara last year, and no more probs.
Simon - Well done on the tempo, looking good for St Annes 1/2. Training run and seminar went well thanks, really well attended and we ended up with 6 different distance/pace groups for the run.
7 mile recovery run for me today - how slow can you go? ........ My slowest mile was 9:10
9.10 is a good pace Chris. I did a 15m lsr a couple of weeks ago and the 1st 7m were into a head wind on the beach, and I struggled to keep the pace under 11mm, one being 11.20mm, and I wasn't try to take it easy.
Up early again this morning for an easy 6 miles, it's getting a bit lighter so it's easier to get out of bed. Another training session this afternoon on my turbo.
Yes I noticed it seemed milder and lighter today, no base layer for my 7m interval run, splits: 7.22, 8.25, 7.15, 8.24, 7.11, 8.28, then 1/2m splits, 6.40, 8.44. Planning some x-training bike ride tomorrow, forecast isn't too bad. Good luck to any racers this w/end
Simon - Enjoy the bike tomorrow - hope the weather holds.
Welcome David - Well done at Liversedge, no doubt you will convert that to a great marathon time in September. Whats your marathon history & what are you aiming for in Chester?
Well done DB and Campo on your times at Liversidge.
My planned 50m bike ride didn't start too well with 2 punctures within the 1st 10miles. With no more spare tubes, I played safe and went back home, popped down to local bike shop to buy some spare tubes. So with offending thorn removed, set off again but just a 30 miler, legs were tired after last nights intervals so stats: ave 14.3mph, 363meters of ascent, 2:07:34. Gym tomorrow with some core work, then a few days rest.
Andy: with you doing a turbo session, and your photo in a wetsuit, I presume you've done a few tri's, any planned for this year?
Morning all B****y thorns! Well done for going out again, think I would have thrown the towel in after 2 punctures. 4m recovery run for me yesterday in the sun along the beach 1 hour at steady pace this morning, taking it easy this afternoon ready for Long run tomorrow. Anyone racing this weekend?
Yes the race is suitable for beginners, there are already loads of first time marathoners entered so you'll be in good company. You've got plenty of time until October, so even if you haven't started running yet you will be able to build up to 26 miles by then.
Shout if you have any questions and we'll do our best to answer them.
Chris, your slowest mile is probably the same as my fastest mile! I'd be nearer Simon's 11mm, but not into a headwind! And I'm guessing, as I don't have any of these fancy gadgets. Not too worried about splits yet, just keep running!

Just done an 8 mile early morning run, felt so good!!
No run for me today - just waiting for a taxi to the station then all day in London
Maybe I should jog up and down the carriage all the way to London - that would be a long session.
The Chester Half marathon had over 500 entries on its first day, best to get a move on to stand a chance of running!
Why do we have to do track sessions
