I hate standing around in the rain at the start. That's the trouble with mass participation events - you have to get there so early to park and find your way around, and then you get cold and wet while waiting for the gun.
I think my favourite part is at about 10k, where you see the fast runners coming up to the finish. I know a lot of people running this event and we always look out for each other and offer encouragement.
It was ok weather last year, just windy. We were there by 9am to get parked in gun wharf. Hope for dry this time as well favourite part was when the race thinned out at about 5 miles
looks like a good forecast for the day, dry at least, which is the best to hope for in October. Last year was my first, and my forst really big event, and the first 4 miles were great, all the crowds and the bands and everything. After that, swin eflu got the better of me (I had only had it a day, and didnt realise i was ill until the 6 mile point, if anyone thinks they suffered for the last mile, my lat mile was hell!!
Hello everyone. Please excuse me if these questions are stupid but hopefully someone can help. I received my info pack and it contained two timing chips. From the info it sounds like I should only have received one, is this right? Also when applying I had to give my t-shirt size, do we receive a t-shirt or is this after the race and does the size we gave them actually mean anything? Thanks.
Have no idea why you received 2 timing chips, I only got one in my race pack. Maybe you should e-mail them to find out what one is registered to your name and then send the other back.
You will get your tee-shirt after the race with your medal and goody bag. You should take the size you requested on entry as they used that information to insure they ordered enough of each size. However, this can be wrong as I have at another event picked up a size large before which is my size, only to discover when I got home it was more like a size medium and did not fit. Just something you have to accept, but is annoying. But from what I remember the GSR, are good with there sizing's.
Does anybody need accommodation and race day transfers?? I have a twin room booked, with transfers and breakfast, and cannot do the race now! The booking people say that they cannot refund and resell the room as apparently there is 'no demand' so I'm trying to get rid of it!!
If you are interested, PM me and I can give you the details...
Last year I was in orange wave, this year I gave a faster time and have just recieved a white wave number, not impressed
It was hard enough trying to get past all the slow runners and walkers last year, I might as well get myself a fairy elephant costume and prance along at the back!
TBH though I think it's great that everyone gets out there on the start line and enjoys the run. I always appreciate when those I know (that are faster than me) wait at the finish and show support. I do the same for those that finish behind me too!
Run Kirst Run: I received my pack on Monday. I did have a couple of emails from event organiser saying if the pack had not arrived the 14th, today, then to contact them to sort things out.
Get in touch with them and see what they have to say. At worst you will just have to pick up a number and timing chip from race HQ on the day, so nothing to much to worry about.
The email address is- info@greatrun.org.
if you do not still have the links from the emails they sent you.
The general organisation for all Great Runs has been a bit delayed this year...had same experience with GNR last month..only got pack with 3 days to go..so all was good in the end...as long as you've had confirmation email that pack is being sent then it will come through
I have never not had a race pack not arrive before, so do not doubt Run Kirts Run's will arrive. But they did advise in the 2 E-mails they sent to inform the race pack had been sent to contact them if they had not arrived by today. So if my pack had not arrived already, that is what I would do.
No response as of yet! I've had 2 other occasions where my pack got lost so a replacement was sent out. This was all well and good until it came to my chip time. I was known as 'unknown runner'! These were not Bupa runs so hopefully I'll be lucky this time

Favourite part is also 10k mark, you get to appreciate the leaders and get to see friends club mates.
Worse part, is the cobbles.
