  • yea !!! its going to be SUNNY ! 13mph wind, looks like great conditions, time to carbo load - my favourite aspect of running !

     good luck everybody !

  • Will have to think about getting my kit in order soon as an early start for me tomorrow.  Hope everyone has a good day.  Looking forward to setting a good PB as it's my first 10-mile. image  Looking forward to seeing how my time compares to 10K and HM.

  • Have a good day tomorrow everyone.  Hope you get the results you're after and enjoy the run and atmosphere!  Hoping to beat 1.57 in an ideal race, but don't think I will.  As long as I beat the 2 hours, I'm happy.
Off to sort my bag now - 7am start tomorrow for me.
  • Hi everyone,
I'm doing the GSR tomorrow and I'm a bit confused about the time I need to be down there. My letter said 9:15 assembly for an 11:03 start but someone I know who has done it before said I should just aim to get there just before 11 and not worry about the assembly time - don't want to wait in the cold for 2 hours unless I have to. Anyone got any thoughts on this?
    many thanks

Small fry - Always better to arrive & get to the start area early - take a bin bag to keep warm or wear some old clothes. I plan to be there about 9ish.

Good luck everyone & have fun

  • Small Fry.

It is personal choice, most people wait in the Pyramid Centre and socialise, then walk to the assembly points half hour before hand.

  • anybody got number i can have, 01189860589, will pay
  • If coming by car best to aim for 9am and join the queue.  Should be sunny tomorrow so not so bad for wandering around or standing about tho a bit chilly.

Good luck everyone, look at the back and you'll see me!  Hoping for 2:30 - 2:45ish (good grief) but aiming to enjoy myself!image And no queue for me out of the car park finishing in that time!image

  • B*gg*r.

Have been ill overnight so all planing and soul searching gone down the pan, almost literally image.

May torture myself by watching on tv but picking out 'good' reasons for not taking part.  One is that the risk of damaging my knee has gone and Brighton Marathon training starts very soon for me.  Also my kit and costume are already packed for next April, just have to change the race numbers!image.

Hope you all have a good one, catch you all later.

  • REPORT:

Finished in 71 mins 06secs. possible unofficial PB.

Good to see a few old faces.

MR K How did you get on ?

  • Great race . What a day for weather. Managed 79mins vs 97 last year. Really pleased. Having an orange start helped.
  • Really enjoyed that - just under 77 and a half for me and I think I went through 10K in a pb time too.  Although does anyone know how accurate the distance on the split times are?

  • SLO, I would expect the distances to be pretty accurate if they want to retain the elite runners.

I finished in under 1hr 40 min, which was OK for me.  I'm happy with that considering it was my first run since Abingdon Marathon the previous weekend.

It felt a lot more crowded all the way round the course this year.  I didn't feel as if I ever had any clear road in front of me and was constantly swerving around people.  I expect it to be busy but I've never known it to be packed.

  • My first 10 mile and came in 71'44" according to the website. My watch said 71'35" so are they posting gun times only?

Well done, Tiptoes! I ran behind you and you are indeed light on your feet!

  • Antony: funny you should say that as my chip time on the website is also 10 seconds over what my watch said. Still got a PB though, so guess will just have to accept what they say.
  • First time I have run this race and what a pleasure it was. My result was 10 seconds out from my watch by still a PB.
  • hey, yea great run today in pompey, my chip time was also about 10 secs slower than my watch time so there must have been a few chip time problems, still a good pb for me in 1hr 1min, perfect conditions ! well done everyone

  • It was my 4th GSR this year, my watch said 1.38.21 and my chip time said 1.38.38, anyway its was over 2 minutes quicker than what I did last year, anyone doing the gosport half in a few weeks?

I have looked at how many people finished and it was 14890, the course felt crowded to me at times more than last year when 13901 people entered!

  • Wow, my first ever GSR and first time of running 10 miles as have been training slowly and got up to 9 miles.

Did it in 1.53 which I was pleased with but could have gone a fair bit faster if I hadn't been in Green start as it was awfully packed for the first 3 miles.

Have already got a place for next years GSR but really, really hope I am not in Green Start again.  What time do you have to be able to do to get a different level start (doubt very much I could get orange but was thinking about how fast I would have to be to get white).  Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    What a lovely day!

Congratulations to all that got a PB.  To be fair, congratulations to all that finished.

    Hello all,

Tiptoes - Good to see you earlier. Well done on your speedy time.

Green Fairy - Sorry to read you had to pull out.

Some really good times being posted up - well done.

It certainly warmed up. image Glad I wore full length Skins thou

My plan was straight 9.00/m - 1:30 as the target. - Garmin time 1:27:34 (Official time 10 secs slower).

Fish n chips on the beach was just great  image

  • Just got back from Portsmouth had a lovely weekend down south and a great first GSR.  Perfect weather, great support and a great flat course with good sites.  My first 10 mile race (although done loads 10ks, HM and a full marathon) and decided I love this distance.  Am definitely doing this next year!!
  • AnthonyQ: you should have said hello.

Mr K: as always a pleasure.

Great to see so many finishers.

  • What a great day. Fantastic weather too. Congrats to everyone who took part. This was my first 10 mile race and I posted a time of 1:30:55 - which I am really pleased with. Only started running 3 months ago (when I couldn't even run 5 minutes without collapsing!) - half marathon next me thinks. Can anyone recommend a good one down south?
  • small fry,

gosport have their half marathon on the 21st of november it will be their 25th year of running it, great goodie bag from them, flat course and they are also having timing chips this year

  • Green Fairy - sorry to hear you had to pull out, hope you are better soon.

Ran this one in 1hr 49m 20s (watch time).  Was a PB by 8 mins, so happy with that.  In fact, was my 6th PB of the year from 5 different distances, so happy overall.

I agree it seemed quite crowded today.  Not a major problem though, except when people stopped dead in front of me a couple of times.  And I don't mean stop to walk, just to do their laces or something and not check behind first.  Other than that, lovely weather and nice race.

Well done to all who ran.

  • Well done all, I enjoyed my first GSR immensly. As I did it on someone elses chip I wont moan too much about slower runners or out of sync chip times...............image

My new PB (after 4 weeks or so training) is 1hr 34min 25secs (watch 09secs). Happy with that and was good to see so many taking part and working hard! Enjoyed the car wash, was well needed, wanted to go round again afterwards (legs said Noooooooo)

Also, a big well done to the charity runners; great to see so many doing it for good causes........... my turn for the GHM 21st Nov.

    Cheers

  • A time 9 mins quicker than last year.  My chip time was 19 secs slower than my watch time image

I am going to mail GSR and ask them if they are aware of any timing chip issues

And I had already entered for 2011 before I even crossed the start line today image

  •  Hi- this is my first post hope you don't mind me joining

Pretty sure they said there were 23000 entrants not 14000?

My first GSR and first ten mile today- was a perfect day and a great atmosphere- would definitely do it again (faster than 2hrs next time I hope!)

Keira V: checkout the results page and you'll see  the last recorded time is about 14,800. 23,000 just sounds better for the organisersimage
