AL - you said it was New Forest Middle Distance Tri, that's why I thought September. Let me see what Mrs K says about adding to Fleet half mara, Stratford mara, and now Bala before we go
Anyone want to buy my Swashbuckler ticket! Kanga has too much on his plate at the mo so this is up for grabs. If you know anyone that wants it please email me on here!!
Just had my first swim in over a month; shoulder behaved itself so hopefully can get a few more swims in before the day.
Just had a look at tide tables for Bucklers Hard and it looks like the uber-early start is not to catch a slack tide but to make sure the swim isn't walkable .
If I've read the tables right, the tide will be going out so the out legs of the swim should be easy, return legs maybe not.
Last year:- Sat pm LT 2306 (1.3m) - HT 0630 (3.2m) - LT 1227 (1.1m) This year:- Sun am HT 0143 (3.5m) - LT 0748 (0.7m) - HT 1425 (3.5m)
It is always possible that those tide tables are not correct - or last year's at least. Definitely wasn't slack tide last year.
If the tide is on it's way out this year it shouldn't be so bad anyway cos the out leg is closer to the centre of the river where the flow should be strongest so that'll do as a nice warm up; the return leg is closer to the shoreline so should be relatively less strong, hopefully!
I'll be getting in the Solent next weekend so I'll report back on the temperature. Last yr the Solent was bitterly cold still, but the water temperature was fine at the Swash. I think that the sun on the mudflats warms up the Estuary water.
I'm out of Swash as diary clashes with a friend's birthday celebrations made it logistically tricky.....shame to be missing it but I have passed on my place to a suitably crap swim replacement......treat him gently guys he's a sensitive soul

Potentially interested?

AL
I've dropped you a PM, I know someone who may well be up for it.
Thanks TR! I appreciate that!!
Thanks to you too Jaffa, have just replied to your PM!
Bloody hell - Jaffa's got a friend?
Or a spare £100 to pretend he has got a friend!
Unfortunately I am going to have to withdraw as well so if anyone is after a place, please PM me. Shall also post on TT.
We dont have anything booked that weekend but it would be divorce lawyers at 10 paces if I snuck out for another race weekend ....
Do it Kanga! You know you want to!!! You've got a 24 hour flight to say you're sorry and make it up. Simples!
Thanks guys. Just somet things I need to get sorted
Kanga - if you want this, you need to speak up. I've also contacted the organisers to see if they know anyone who wants the place.
Well it's gone now so lucky
Happy swashing to those still on the list!

Think we have to think of the Swash as the sort of swim which sets you up for the season - if you survive it you can survive anything.
No that sounds too harsh. But it was 'interesting' last year, wasn't it? But in previous years it's been as good as gold I think, if a bit diesel-y.

Ok, just noticed those tide tables are in GMT so, for last year we were in one hour before slack tide. This years tide times should be:
Sun 22 May (BST):- HT 0243 (3.5m) - LT 0848 (0.7m) - HT 1525 (3.5m)
Not sure if that makes it better or worse
On a more positve note, water temperature in the Solent is about 13.7C which means it should be just right by Swashday!
Oh no Jaffa! I mean, I'm sure your friend is lovely. Just a shame not to be seeing you!
The water was positively bath-like last year, temperature-wise.
