Was going to do it last year as my folks live in Mersea and I go up there for xmas.....but then it snowed! Was training for the Ridgeway challenge (85 miles) and this year am training for the south downs way (103 miles) so my pace has dropped and so will be looking at a pedestrian sub 7s for the race and 8.30-8.45s back to Mersea for 18-20 miles, depending on which way
Great news re the numbers being held over, received mine last week, but woyld have been happy to pay again if charities missed out.
Anyway looking forward to it - motivation is that it will be the first race I'll run since a knee injury in October so now a reason to be focussed on getting fit again.
We don't have any snow at present - but just heard a XC event for Sunday has been cancelled due to frozen ground.
Can only take it on a day by day at the mo, we're suppose to have a dumping of the white stuff tomorrow, if its as bad as the last lot we'll have problems as it only cleared up round here last weekend.
Will keep you posted with any news, but fingers crossed it can go ahead.
Edited to say - spoke too soon its now falling quite heavy.
Ran this morning and it was hard going but you can run. Paths are hard because of the uneven snow compacted down. Roads are easy once vehicles have gone over them.
I'm afraid we've had a good dumping of snow again over the weekend and this morning the temp gauge on my car read -11degC!
We really don't want to have to call off the race again as we did last year and we're still proceeding on the premise that the the race will go ahead but if you have entered, at the moment I can only suggest that you visit the Witham Running Club website for any updates, especially if you have to travel any distance.
I would be very surprised if it was on - it will take a few days of temps above zero to clear the roads on the rural sections of the course. A real shame - but it looks unlikely at present.
crap! won't be running it this year for the first time since 2006 as I have suffered a triple break to the leg....slipped in the ice.......although not running! Good luck to everyone this year, hopefully it will go ahead. I wish you all the best!!!
Its thawing out round Chelmsford but still cold and icy.
I would suggest if the course is acceptable but with some icy bits to buy bags of rock salt and on the day have the marshals cover the dangerous parts. Maybe have marshals cover these areas when the race is on.
I really hope this will go ahead. Will be a disaster if its cancelled two years in a row. Still think Witham should go for a Easter Monday race.
Of course we want this to go ahead and if the thaw continues it will, but we have to think of all involved, a few of you running around country lanes is fine in slippery conditions, but 500 of you is a different matter.
And I agree it has thawed but is still very slippery even in Chelmsford where I work.
I ran round Hylands Park early this morning and lets say, its icy and dangerous. Even cycling to work was a nightmare.
Without tempting fate. If Chelmsford have icy areas. Then so will Witham. Have a fear its going to be bad news later today. Fingers cross, touch wood and pray I am wrong.

great stuff! free races....I like.
As part of my training I am running home to Mersea Island after the race if anyone is interested in a slow recovery run (either via tiptree/abberton)
Wow!
How far is that? I live that way too
Hello
Sorry not been on thread - stupid thing called work is really getting in the way.
Any way I expect the numbers will be sent some time this month.

Good luck this year Mrs Punch!
Oi ulttrabobban get round here and clear this mess
Charities never lost out last year.
I have every faith that the snow is going to melt soon - can you all start praying for a ton of rain.
Just dumped about 8 cms of snow in in under two hours Woodford....

Think this will be the second year its is going to be cancelled. More snow predicted.
What a change from Saturday morning. It was cold but lovely to run in.
Ran this morning and it was hard going but you can run. Paths are hard because of the uneven snow compacted down. Roads are easy once vehicles have gone over them.
If it does not rain think the race may still run.

Hi Myles
How are you?
it is a shame!
Bloody hell ultrabobban hope you're not in too much pain. We still have fingers crossed for Sunday although looking very slim.
Good thanks Sue - another year closer to the MV40 category though !!
Currently a little bit of drizzle/sleet in Braintree so fingers crossed for Boxing Day.

A decision will be made on Xmas Eve.
