off the road/on the track

HI,
Have done running for a year, & competed in 2,ten miles, four 10k, & five 5ks races.
Am going to compete in winter 3k series on an athletics track, do i need to do anything different then on the road?

  • Have you done any training on the track, or if not have got any opportunity to do so?  The physical demands aren't that much different, the track surface is a bit more cushioned than road, but the main thing you could benefit from is getting used to pacing.  The shorter the distance, the more it's a case of setting an uncomfortable but manageable pace and holding on, so it's worth getting a feel for hard running on the track, practising running even 200m/400m splits, etc.
