There's a snake in my house. Not very fat but maybe a metre and a half long. After a valient battle with a broom in the kitchen, the damn thing got into the living room, under the couch and then under the big tabley thing the TV's on.
I can't move ithe table myself as it weighs a tonne and I'm scared the snake'll jump out and bite my ankles. My OH won't be home for at least an hour and I don't know what to do.
Do you think some music might tempt it out? Classical or rock?

What kind of snake?
have you go a pet hamster or gerbil to tempt him with
Was it fairly plain (and I don't mean as opposed to pretty!), or did it have a pattern?
Grass snake:
Adder:
Probably best to call someone like.... actually I can't think who you should call! RSPCA, maybe?
You're in Spain aren't you Az?
If there aren't any large snakes in Spain, I expect it's someone's escaped python or similar.
Hmm, no hamsters....
It's patterned, but I'm not in Britain Wilkie so it could be anything.
It's got round eyes - that means it's not a viper, right? Not poisonous?
what did you expect?? annoy the feck out of me with a broom and I'd have a go at you...
it's like people who have a go at batting wasps away and then wonder why they get stung
all snakes have round eyes....poisonous or not
PYTHON!!!
WTF!!!!
apparantely out of the 13 types of snakes in Spain only 5 are venomous and they are all types of vipers
If you are bitten by a snake, remain calm and seek medical attention immediately. Bites only occur in the spring and summer as snakes hibernate. Of the estimated 50 snakebite deaths a year in Europe, only 3-6 occur in Spain, so don’t worry too much. 1-2 are reckoned to occur in Catalonia. More people die from bee and wasp stings. The Canaries are snake-free, and only the milder False smooth snake is found in the Balearics, probably introduced there by the Romans.
Unless it is a petsnake that has been lost by its owners and then it could be anything
It's actually very pretty (in a snakey way...)

I'd still wear some thick gloves if you're thinking of catching it tho
Have you tried running up and down the road screaming? That would be my reaction!
I know what you mean about slit eyes though, I heard (on springwatch or somewhere) that the British smooth snake and grass snake have round pupils
and the adder has slit pupils
I detest snakes - I feel rather sick having just looked at those photo's
Sorted. Lots of furniture moving, swearing and yelping and it did a 'runner' out the door.
I believe it was a 'hemorrhois hippocrepis' which aren't poisonous but put up a square fight. Which this one did.
In the photos on the web it looks really cute so I guess I'm a big girl's blouse.
More photos here - it looks big until you see the broom....
How mortifying...
Ah - the horseshoe whip snake which someone suggested earlier. Glad to hear you're both safe.
I like snakes and have handled a fair few.
