I don't mind admitting I've read the first 4 HP books more than once and have nearly finished the new one. What's wrong with a bit of plain old harmless fun, there's far too much doom and gloom in the world. Come down off the soapbox and let your hair down.
Like Benz I too spent my formative years reading stuff like War & Peace and other really fun stuff. Sometimes it's nice to switch off and read a book/watch a soap/post on a forum without having to concentrate hard on it. Relax.
I've just succumbed to buying another copy, couldn't get the adult cover anywhere I wanted to buy (support your local bookshop!! cant when there're cheap offers at thebookpeople though) so had to get it in WHSmiths. Local bookshop said Bloomsbury already reprinting the adult cover as many more bought than expected.
paskJ reading - but I gotta finish supper - gotta go!!
woke early & thought HP? or a run? lovely day down here after yesterday, so the run won!
Chapter 30, page 596. Expect to finish it tonight. But I must admit I already know who dies, 'cos I couldn't wait and flicked through the rest of the pages! Own up you lot - I'm not the only one!
Ok Alan, I'll take you at your word. I'm really really nice most of the time, but the other forumites will tell you I have a nasty bite when someone upsets me!
paskJ (11) is over half way now (almost p400) - has taken it to school today
i've got no further - paskJ couldn't resist telling me who the dead person wasn't - and needs me to catch up as he wants to talk about it!
i've not been tempted to look ahead - please don't hint or give away who it is!
Alan? he seems an interesting person and I'm well used to liking people who have different views / ideas! and I agree with him when it comes to all the hype
Alan - did you say you haven't read a Potter book? I would find it hard to comment if I hadn't actually read one - there are several layers as in most good books
Alex's thread definitely said not to read it if you hadn't read the book, but I'm sorry if I spoiled it for everyone who hasn't finished it.
Good book though. Luckily I don't have kids who also want to read it. Can't you just lock the kids away until you've read it - or say you have to read it first to check it is suitable.
Just had to check on this old thread ... did Joe come down to Tesco at Midnight on 21 June 2003 to buy HP5 (Order of the Phoenix)?
I thought he DID but he doesn't remember ... he didn't, he said he was too tired and was asleep when I left at 11:30pm ... (he was only 11)
This one he wants to get asap ... but as he is now 15, is staying over in St Just tonight - Lafrowda Day tomorrow, so has other priorities, end of term etc!
also he's busy re-reading THE TRAVELLER by John XII Hawks (June 2005) as the second book - THE DARK RIVER - was published last week (July 16) ... but I am reading it FIRST!!!
However, he will definitely want to read HP7 straight away, so I may be out and about tonight in search of a copy!
