Had a pretty rubbish swim on Wednesday when the best I managed for 200 was 4:17 largely due, I suspect, to the after effects of blood doning on Tuesday.
Back in the pool again this moring and recorded a 4:08 which I'm much happier with though it's still short of the 4:00 that I recorded in a session a few weeks ago.
Well, i've been putting my times in for each round and i've managed a total score off 22 so far , it appears I put a 400m base time in that was 14 lengths not 16, thought i'd just swum really well.
It means that people who were below you have improved slightly better than yourself.
Comparing your swim performance against an elite time gives you a performance percentage similar to age grading for running. As the distance increases, those with better staying power (endurance) perform closer to the required mark/grade.
Speedwork and lengths will help improve this Parky.
Gaz - it was sore yesterday and I'd planned a rest day (apart from swimming) but had to trudge up several hills due to the local train not turning up. Grrrr.
Anyway, today (crosses fingers) after usual strengthening and a big icing session last night, it feels a fair bit better, ta. Still feeling it when I turn the foot, so my estimate at the moment is 2 weeks before I can try a run.
logged my 200 meter time tonight (cutting it fine!) completed in 3.29, but should have been much quicker! did a LSR of 13 miles earlier which probably wasn't too smart!
It's going to get more difficult for me to log times as the distances get longer 400M tomorrow. The local pools get v busy and the one I'm going to tomorrow morning (10 mins from where I'm living) doesn't have a big digital hour, min and second clock, so I'll have to use the stopwatch on my mobile.
did my 200 as part of a set on Sat, 3.13 for me but I am just staying around the other guys in my 400m base time, no real improvement but not dropping off either. I will be starting the 4 times a week after this week as I am worknigin London all week and no access to a pool. For me to improve after stroke change I really need the 4x a week. will be a challenge but well up for it.
I do swim with the club Gaz, but we don't always do 400M. 300M is usually the max we do in a set at the sessions, although v occasionally 400M.
Oh and I'm skint and homeless at the moment - spare room surfing with friends, so my priority is to try to get somewhere to live which is proving a huge challenge in this overpriced city. I'm paying out for swimming only at the moment. I've a list of tri stuff I need - wet suit and turbo trainer being at the top. Sports watch would be right at the bottom.
Think I'm gradually improving - so far. For round 3 finished 2nd in my age group (M+F) and 20th overall. Total ranking is 17th, down from 15th on Saturday.
Looking back through my swim log I noticed I recorded a 8:38 400m set a few weeks ago; not sure how I managed that but that's my target for this round. Tri club starts again tonight so may not get the chance to try for a 400 at that session, depends what we're doing.

PL, I have all 3 available for homeless and dejected dropouts. PM me and we can work something out, what size are you for a start ? and I make no assumptions so M?/F? might help too.
Hoping to get my first round 4 shot in tomorrow. Should have no trouble beating my base time, not so sure I'll record a +ve difference on best percentage though.
yikes!!!! i've got slower since my base time!! this isn't good.. no swimming since before christmas due to pool closure and illness.. not too impressive though!! will try again once i get back from skiing on wednesday..
today i did my first session using my christmas toys.. a lap counter (fantastic! for the absent minded!!) paddles which i just love and a pull bouy.. much better workout!
Tried to log my 400M time this morning but lost count. I think I did 2 laps over which would make sense with the time on my stopwatch. Will try again on Sunday and might have to go to the pool with the big clock (which unfortunately is busier) as it's faffy using my mobile stopwatch. It's a bit rubbish that my local leisure centre doesn't have more than a standard wall clock.
I can't afford to buy anything at the moment Bootsie - I'm trying to rent or buy a flat and need every penny. I have a growing list of tri stuff and a wet suit is at the top. When I do eventually move *crosses fingers*, I'm thinking of having a cake sale to boost my wet suit fund.

How's everyone else doing?
Somehow that doesn't surprise me Gaz

Twice a week is not enough for me, but I do make sure it's quality swimming and the distance.
Some blighter has nipped in and knocked me down to 6th, cheeky swine.

Quickly looks up 17th for Trogs real name
I think that was after an early posting of my 200m time Parky.
I know who you are too Gaz - and have just realised we're in the same age group!
Tri club was all 100m efforts so no use at all fut I had a pretty rubbish session anyway so maybe it's just as well.
we've got a "bromance" blossoming between trogs and gaz above ^
Pool was a little crowded last night and some congestion at turns, but pleased with knocking 25 secs off 400m time this attempt.
Like running, it's amazing what a little speed training can bring to your performance.
