Lorenzo I have a 1:20:09, a 1:20:21 and a 1:20:51 for GNR (never broken 80 mins on this course)- all in the distant past of course. 1:23:XX last year so hoping not to get slower, or get beaten by Junior OO image

Back in Geneva this week after 3 weeks away- busy week ay work, a 50 mile week already looking doubtful.

    4:36am Gul, you slacker image

SJ - bit of a nightmare. Glad you're home safe and back into the training!
GD - good sessions - all the best with your new job!
Poacher - nice to see the return of #gymfail!
    Leslie - nicely ticking over.
GM - good to hear from you. I'm sure you'll have entered the 10k by now!
OO - hope you can fit in the training this week.
Decided it was time to start the speedwork phase of my training, but just a gentle session to begin with. 12 x 400m tempo / 200m easy. 7 miles in total with average pace of 7:43 m/m, HR 155.

  • Leslie HLeslie H ✭✭✭

Gerard : my A race is on sunday a local half mara ,its a little bit hillier than id like but will see how I go.Get that 10k booked. image

    0053- speedy half times !

Gul- speed at last ! , how fast where those 400's ? image

5 with strides today ,garmin refused to upload despite several attempts though it said it was uploaded  image Hamstring winged a little after that but sure its nothing image

Gul - note the time and eat the dust off my trainers: I'm going to the gym now. image

  • Gul DarrGul Darr ✭✭✭

Leslie - I'm so laid back now that I didn't bother to take any splitsimage The pace per mile in between warm-up and warm-down was either 7:00 or 7:24 depending on how much tempo v. easy running it contained. My guess would be around 6:40 m/m for the 400m reps, so very relaxed.
Poacher - I am quaking in my boots image
7 easy miles this morning @ 8:28 m/m, HR 139 (seems to be heading in the right direction again).

Hi all, apologies for the long absence, but work and home life have and continue to be extremely busy! As such I haven't been able to get the runs in to be able to do Abingdon - though I am still running (just shorter distances and less times a week)

...so if anyone is interested in buying my Abingdon place off me, then please get in touch

I hope everyone's running is going well

  • August is finished as far as running goes.

165.91 miles at an average of 7:52 pace and 1,530 for the year so far. Biggest August ever, normally chopped short by family holidays but managed to run most days which didn't have a flight or 8+ hours driving so managed a run on 26 days so just over 6 miles a day on average which means 5 miles and a few longer ones.

  • Leslie HLeslie H ✭✭✭

Gul I want hard facts no guessing for reps image

LB70 -life tends to get in the way now and again.

    PMJ- good year so far

    August stats :

157 miles at an average of 7.7 mph (cant see how to sort that to minute/miles on garmin connect image ) and 1081 miles for the year to date.

  • BirchBirch ✭✭✭

well prompted, Philip - 'tis indeed last day of month, so -

169 miles,  1290 year to date

this is week 3 of my planned 8 week "get fit for XC" schedule; two weeks prior have managed 94 miles inc 2 x 16's , 2 x "speed" sessions and a (lacklustre) parkrun

advanced another year in the VoGit category on Monday (celebrated well, though, hence only a tired 4 mile plod yesterday) -

    nice to see Gerard back . . . . .

  • GerardMGerardM ✭✭✭

Cheers and many happy returns Birch! Hope you celebrated with a nice Ale or two?

Nice to see PMJ getting some nice running in whilst juggling holiday destinations. Have you got any races lined up?

Leslie - Ooh, a half marathon. Have you raced that one before? No need to book the 10k as it's a relatively low key local one. Just turn up and hope it's not too windy as it's a 3 mile dash along the west coast and then up a few inclines and back inland. Sub 42 is the goal time and should be doable even in my current state.

LB70 - Hey, nice to hear from you. Shame about Abo but not worth trying to blag a mara, I've done that too many times now and decided to give up any hope of doing my local one in October. Good luck with the shorter stuff and in some ways it's nice to dabble with some speed and try and get some new pb's in short distances.

Has anyone heard from Madbark? Hope he is good and Vtr too.

Back in the hospital today to see yet another "Specialist consultant". The latest one is a sports injury adviser or something to that effect. Very nice chap and we chatted in length about what's been going on and after much prodding and general indiscretion he thinks that the previous examiners have been barking up the wrong tree! Sigh, that means another MRI as they focused on the spinal and gastro area but he reckons that the cause is below the waist area and the previous MRI didn't factor that. Good to know that everything above is ok but now to see what's lurking beneath! image Anyway, it's cool, it's a process of elimination and as long as they keep telling me it's not serious then I'm fine with it, even if it's a bit taxing and time consuming. Very busy day in work today but I wasn't to be denied a lovely 5 mile jaunt along the promenade at high tide tonight. It was perfect running conditions, about 17c with a nice cool breeze. Managed to hold 7mm pace without any discomfort and feeling stronger. Not getting carried away though and will resist any proper speed sessions for a wee while yet. image

  • G-DawgG-Dawg ✭✭✭

Nice going GM, looks like you have a plan that will get things sorted soon. Nice one!

Last night's track session was 20 x 100m, belt it on the straights and walk the bends. Sounds easy but towards the end it was tough going. Good session though, plenty of 14 and 15 second efforts in there.

Ran with a mate tonight, decided to run over the woods to protect my sore Achilles. Despite feeling last night's track session in my thighs, I felt great. Breezed the 5 miles at 7.02 pace and could have gone quicker but my mate was feeling real bad after a tough 23 miler at the weekend.

Giving myself 2 days' rest before my final LSR on Saturday, 22 miles before taper for Berlin.

August was my biggest August ever, 177 miles. Would have been 200 miles (never done that) but my 4 days in Rome ruined that. Average pace was 7.34 which is 7.93mph. Six of those runs are small warm up and warm down sessions at the track, so the averages on efforts are even better.

If the weather is cool in Berlin, I'm going Sh!t or Bust. Watch this space! image

    GD

  • LB70 - good to hear from you. Hope you can find the time to train for a marathon in the Sping, maybe?
PMJ - nice August total and year to date.
Leslie - the only hard fact I have for you is that 7.7 mph is about 7:47.5 m/mimage
Birch - congrats on the birthday. Nice stats too - looking to be VOGit XC champ this year?
GM - must be frustrating. Hope it gets sorted soon.
GD - hope the Achilles is okay for Saturday. Looking forward to see how you do in Berlin!
August stats for me:206 miles @ 8:32 m/m. Fairly happy with that considering I had 2 weeks holiday. So far for the year that makes 1782 miles @ 8:26 m/m.
Another speed session this morning. 8 miles inc. 6 x 3 min efforts with 2 min recoveries (GPS watch does intervals by time rather than distance). Unfortunately only gives mile splits too (sorry Leslie!) After a 2.5 mile w/u, I did 4.38 miles in 29:59 (why not 30.00?!!!) Splits were 7:07, 6:40, 652, 6:55 (and 2.24 for the last 0.38). I'm guessing the 3 min efforts were a fraction over 6 m/m. HR 174 and a max of 227!

  • Nice big miles Gul, Birch and others

GM - this is taking a long time, you're doing well to keep the chin up. Long term injuries are a pain in so many ways

GD - good attitude. Berlin is so flat and potentially so fast although it's a big field. On a cool day it's got fast written all over it.

Today's #gymfail was the power supply.  Cra*py infrastructure led to 3 power cuts in 10 minutes, one as I ramped the treadie up towards 15kph only to be flung into the control panel with some venom. Bah.

While on the treadie I was listening to an old MT and heard fulsome praise for Lorenzo's apparently cheesy "catalogue pose" in his MT shirt at Krakow park run.  We need to see that picture - get posting  image  However bad it is, it'll be better than some of the stuff Badbark has treated us to in the past image

  • OO54OO54 ✭✭✭

Very best of luck GD, we'll all be following you.

I declined an Abingdon place today. Just couldn't make a weekend in Oxford work.

I'm running well this week. Been worried my dodgy hip was back but been better today.

  • Poacher - sure it wasn't you ramping up the treadie that blew the power?
OO - I had an email from Abingdon asking me to let them know whether or not I was still interested in a place as my name was nearing the top of the waiting list. Haven't replied yet, but I think I'll have to decline. Good to hear you're running well.
    7 easy miles this morning @ 8:27 HR 142.

  • Birch - happy birthday old lag image Have you passed 60,000 miles yet ?

Gerard- they completely changed the course since I last ran it 3 years ago, about 11 of the 13 miles are in another direction now ! Hopefully by process of elimination you will be sorted soon image

G-dawg sh*t or bust ...thats the spirit, all in for the win !

Gul- nice reps you mileage king ,2 weeks hols and still over 200 mile !

Poacher - you did well to stay onboard the treaddie image

0053 - shame you can't make the race

3 easy this morn .still a half stone over ideal race weight but nothing I can do now image

Very good system they have at Abingdon to swap numbers. Sorry to miss it but I still have other options with less travel.

Nice hot 30 degree run in Geneva- might come in handy for GNR next week. Supposed to be tapering but should reach at least 45 this week.

  • Cracking mileage Birch!

Leslie - Hopefully the conditions will be good on the day and you have a good run.

Poacher - 2nd week in March when it all started. So, yes, it's been a while now but things could be a lot worse all things considered.

8 mile run today in just under an hour. Felt like a long time on the feet.

OO - Are you park running tomorrow?
  • Poacher - I seem to remember them saying that it was a particularly impressive catalogue pose. They were certainly more complimentary about that one than the one I sent from Moscow where I was described as having a very small head!

Another impressive gymfail from you there.

Only managed 52 miles running in August, most at easy pace but did get in 300 on the bike. Nothing like as impressive as some of the stats on here - G-Dawg's stand out as being a great blend of mileage and speed so looking very promising for Berlin.

GM - food in Kosovo (and in our sorties into Albania and Macedonia) was very good. Very similar to Turkish in the more traditional restaurants but other cuisines available. My autumn plan was originally Abingdon but I managed to swap my place when I realised I wasn't going to be in shape for a serious crack at something in the 3:00 - 3:05 range, so I'll be doing Beachy Head at the end of October. I've fancied doing it for a while so seemed like a good opportunity.

Planning to get out for a medium length run with younger Lorenzito tomorrow morning - he's got a mild form of PF so the fizz has told him he needs to avoid speedwork but is OK on long slow runs - I'm working on the basis that his definition of slow will be my MLR pace.

  • OO54OO54 ✭✭✭

Oh yes Gerard. Threw the kitchen sink in this morning as its the last hard effort before GNR next week. Came up as 18:13 parkrun on my watch but Strava says it's an 18:03 5k. In any case I came second in a weak field- so very happy with that.

  • OO - Well done, super running! Your mix of decent mileage and speed bodes well for GNR! I went up to watch our local one and saw a visitor with a Keswick AC vest. He looked like a V60 runner. I've heard you mention that place before. It's fell running couhtry if I'm not mistaken. Anyhow he did very well and ran 18:x to finish 2nd. I was dying to do it but had to resist as I would probably end up getting my conpetitive head on. I can wait. ????
  • Crikey OO, top bombing! GNR looks like it will be good run for you and no mistake!

Final LSR of the Berlin campaign done. Running 22 miles isn't easy but that was my most straightforward 22 miler ever. Was on my own as my pal decided to do the club 5k relays instead.

I've had a sore Achilles for the past couple of weeks and the Tuesday track session caused an issue with my right quad, so the focus of the run was to keep it sensible and manage those injuries. Averaged 8.02 pace and nothing really much else to report apart from it was bl00dy hot when the sun was out.

My campaign management has been quite pleasing thus far, just 3 weeks to keep a steady head and just see what happens on the day.

Oh yeah, I also scored tickets for the final two evening sessions at the World Athletics Champs next year! image

Hope all your runs are just as personally satisfying this weekend, Gang.

    GD

  • G-Dawg - good run out in the sun there. As you say, being sensible for the next 3 weeks has to be the priority. You're in great shape and now need to focus on getting to the starting line in one piece. What are your plans for the taper?

Good news on the tickets for the World Champs - might see you there.

8.8 miles with younger Lorenzito this morning - hilly route and only managed 8:20 pace. Good for him to keep it slow, but felt harder work than it should have done. Have made a mental note to get back into shape.

Congrats to OO on the parkrun and well done to GM for being so restrained.

  • Leslie - try chopping an arm off maybe?
    Birch - 60,160!!! That's proper mileage.
OO - 45 miles or degrees?!!! Cracking parkrun. Feeling more confident for GNR now?
GM - soon be back in the swing of things. Be patient for now!
Lorenzo - I'm leaning more towards Norfolk Coastal rather than Beachy Head at the moment - bet I'll end up at Raceways Autumn Shakespeare though! Good handicap run with Lorenzito!
GD - good confidence boosting 22 miler - enjoy the taper!
First parkrun in just over 1 year for me this morning. And not only that, but Mrs GD came along too! It was a last minute decision (gone 8am!), so she hadn't even registered. She told me to do my normal run and leave her at the back. I was quite concerned as she doesn't run and has back/hip issues which flare up when she does too much walking! I set off too fast as usual and managed to hold on for 15th place in 19:18 - 5:59, 6:19 (lost a few seconds when I stopped to encourage Mrs GD!), 6:13, 0:46. Found Mrs GD around the 1.5 mile mark and completed the second lap with her, but she sensibly decided to call it a day on the final lap near our car as she was in pain (she did about 2.5 miles in 40 mins). Fortunately she seems okay now. Found out that there is a 24 hour parkrun event next Saturday to mark its 5th birthday. They are encouraging people to sign up for an hour between 9am Sat and 9am Sun and donate some money towards some new benches for the park. Thinking about doing 2 or 3 hours at Gul o'clock on the Sunday morning for next week's long run.

Hello long lost thread friends. image  It has been a long time since I last frequented these boards.  I have finally finished my masters dissertation which has completely wiped out my summer but it marks the end of the course that has diverted me from running this past year.  I have managed to get some training in for Berlin this summer and hope to toe the line in three weeks' time.  Not planning on a time goal though as my running has been so sporadic this past year.  Completed my last LR today 22 @ 7:50m/m with a 1:29 first half and 1:23 second half so feeling like the endurance is coming back to me.  I don't feel as fit as I did for my last marathon campaign however. And I am carrying a few lbs of extra weight image.

GDawg - I may see you in Berlin!  You look as if you have had a good training cycle.  Do you have a goal time in mind?  I also have to manage my achilles and find kinesio tape absolutely brilliant.  It is very easy to tape yourself up.

Leslie - extra weight can also be lost now you are running!

OO - great park run time. Your enduring speed is so impressive.

Birch - good to see you still out running great mileage.

Lorenzo - fancy a run together sometime soon (perhaps not with your speedy son)? What's in your calendar?

GD - looking quite speedy there.  Well done, Mrs GD although hip issues seem so common in friends of mine now. image  There must be some underlying anatomical reason.

  • BirchBirch ✭✭✭

OO - another excellent parkrun - are you disclosing a goal time to us for next week?

Splendid 22's from GDawg (splendid campaign, too) & MsE (welcome back - don't expect you look too tubby )  image

Gul - fine parkrun, and good family double outing !

60,176 now Gul - 16(.5)  today - 12 and a bit to & from park, missed start by a few mins, but chased down and managed 442nd from 619 finishers in official 30:25 image   then last mile and bits home.

  • Birch - indestructible thread legend. Amazing miles over all that time.
GD - sounding good for race day
Gul - tasty time and that will be a decent WAVA for a vet
OO - looking very good for GNR
Lorenzo - nice hols and nice bike miles. How many miles of bike do you think equates to a mile of running?

#gymfail today was me. I had the place to myself at first and no one could see the solitary sweaty, unathletic V50 literally dripping all over the treadie as it's so jolly hot and unpleasant in there. Then the gym door opened and in walked the entire national football team of Gabon. How can such a small country produce so many strong fit young men? It was like Albert Steptoe gatecrashing the Jamaican sprint squad training camp. Feeling very old and slow tonight.

Just been reminded that I accidentally entered the Hull mara a few weeks ago. It's later this month, aiming to be back in blighty by then so may as well turn up. Anyone else toeing the line? First LR since White Peak so once again it won't be pretty.

  • Hi MsE - you still sound quite sharp even with the extra timberimage

Cracking parkrunning going on for OO and Gul

Have arrived in Stockholm - ferry to the start line tomorrow lunch time then OtillO race stars early on Monday. Looking forward to it but I think it's the first time I've ever approached a race and been worried about the cut off times. A lot depends on terrain and currents so lots of unknowns.... Bracing myself for 14hours of fun and misery in equal measure!
