My first half marathon was in 2002 and I'm pretty sure you got sent thumbnails and then filled in a form and posted it to them with a cheque (a cheque! I bet the youth of today wouldn't know what to do with those!) to get your proper, printed photos. I have an album (a real one, that you can hold and everything) of early running photos. How life changes! 5 mile recovery run this morning.
That is a strong picture SBD and an ace finishing time. Even with chip timing it's still good to have the gantry timer in the photo. I'm looking forward to reading about the Gerard/OO Park Run mash up. Gul - Yep, vanity got the better of me and I was ready to look good for the finish line photo. I have to say, that your London marathon shorts are impressively long! And I just didn't get into road running until 2007 when a friend encouraged me to run Anglesey. Speedy - You look very composed in your photo. I'm also surprised that no-one else remarked about my short shorts. But they really were the thing. Just look at this photo from 1987 and the Bob Graham. My pacers and I, leaving Wasdale - all apparently wearing knickers!
What was your time in the 2006 Gear 10K Gul? Clearly, the cause of your downfall at London was the shorts - you need to have a word with DT.
10 miles with the middle 10K at tempo pace this evening for me. Hard work but good to have completed. Moderately progressive tempo section from 6:24 to 6:08 m/m pace, so 39:19 for the 10K. Two of those back to back at the HM would be nice!
Just seen that in the Comrades pic there's a guy behind me with a wolf head. Must have been hot, and hard to eat/drink. Chapeau if he wore that for 90km!
My earliest running photo, 5k in 2011 at Long Marston. 20.33 but such was the standard 2nd place and first v35. A March day and dressed for the North Pole and wearing headphones!! Ive come a long way.
I found this, my 1st road running photo from 1988 - the Cleveland Major in Stockton. Anyone got similar snaps?
Not sure OO realised what he was about to unleash! More great photos everyone.
Poacher - there is definitely something about your Comrades photo that catches the essence of what I've heard and read about the race. I'm sure you'd recommend.
Speedy - yes, great head gear. It was very hot & I'd already bagged the only half decent hat, so someone fashioned a hat out of a bandage! Actually he was the only one in the group with any real talent & went on to represent England twice in the International Snowdon Race.
DT - looks like you're a footy legend! Are you running on a race track in the 2nd photo?
Here's one. Me, Saint Jason, Sue (whose forum name I have forgotten), agh, I can't remember the other lady's name either, and Liz Yelling in the background. From back in the day when we won a Runner's World competition to feature in the magazine as we trained for the Great North Run. It was so long ago I was looking for my first sub 1.35 (I failed as I'd had a cold but got it three weeks later by some margin). Can you guess who the sponsor was?
Comments
Gul - no smackdown per se but I'll be there and probs close to sub 20 if my leg holds up. Should be fun.
ah, such an innocuous phrase . . .
Lots of good pictures and dodgy shorts!
Abingdon does lend itself to a good finish photo. Here's mine from 2010 -
Ouch!

reveal !!!!
White Peak marathon - Gul is being modest, although he just bossed the smackdown.
Birch: this is Comrades when it's going well, i.e. sub9
Looking in great shape, SBD.
I'll show you short shorts in a moment..Not running but football in 1990 before the long short fashion kicked in with that spurs kit in 91.
More great photos everyone.

Track county champs today. Stupid silly little distance!
