    ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !!!!!

was already fairly content, after 14.5 inc parkrun this morn, but logging in and seeing these has bumped up the joy level !!

yes, I noticed the "wolf" guy, Poacher , and the chap with a rather splendid beard just in front . . .   but what a pic , and what memories forever stored in your mullet-free bonce  ;)   :)

Fish, it's an unused airfield. They used to do a saturday morning 5k, 10k, half and mara there 3 times a year. 5k was 1 lap so mara was 8.5. They were good events but sadly the land was sold for housing development 18 months ago.
  • Fish52Fish52 ✭✭✭
DT - mmm...housing over running...not sure about that. I did a similar event in 2015 near Stratford, which was based on 5K laps on an airfield.

    Nice inclusive 14.5 there Birch
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭
Fish, i suspect it's the same event as this is just outside Stratford.

Yes it certainly has been entertaining, some cracking photos and great memories of London’s gone by. Anyone who hasn’t seen a Poacher outfit with their own eyes has been....spared 😂
Well Gerard and I met up with our partners for a meal and pre parkrun shandies on Friday night, which ended predictably with general squiffyness and full bellies when we headed home at midnight. Not the best prep for parkrun but we made it to the start and put in a solid performance- for the first 2 miles at least, which we ran together with a group of other runners. Gerard with a dodgy tum and injured quad held on for a solid 19:30 and 5th finisher. I pushed on in persuit of the 3 lead guys who were 40 meters up the road. Managed to catch 2 of them easily, but the leader was just taking it easy and went off like a rocket when I got close to him. Held on for 2nd place in 18:48, not bad, all things considered.
I have a 10k on Wednesday so a great warm up race. I might stay off the sauce for that one.
Having a great time in Jersey- the sun has come out at last🌞

  • Great photos, past and current - nearly choked on my beetroot juice while looking at them earlier! Can't seem to find any old running photos although I've managed to locate this one from my early cycling days!!!

Jersey smackdown sounds great fun, and impressive parkrun times on a 'morning after' stomach.

Mole valley parkrun for me this morning - back on the hills rather than the flat, so reasonably happy with 20:55, my 2nd fastest time there. Spilts of 7:04, 7:04, 6:10, 5:46 (for the last 0.1) give you an idea of the course profile.

We’ll done Lorenzo. You can see the talent right there!
  • Gul DarrGul Darr ✭✭✭
Loving the photos - keep them coming!
Poacher - glad I got to meet you properly at the White Peak marathon - you zoomed by in your Carmen Miranda outfit in London before I had a chance to put 2 and 2 together. But I will always remember that you took the trouble to encourage me, a total stranger (or so you thought!)
    SBD - 47:xx if I remember correctly.
    Birch - good running today.
    GMOO - good parkrunning too.
Lorenzo -  good effort at Mole Valley.
18 miles this morning - out and back along the old A17 to Walpole Cross Keys. And great news from up North, Warrington 2 King's Lynn 3 AET :)

Outstanding photos, team. Bloody love them !!

Did my first ultra today. A shade under 33 miles at the inaugural Dulux Revolution Trails between Marlow and Windsor.

It was always going to hurt just 2 weeks after a PB marathon but I was ready in the head and saw it as a 2nd half practice for the Race To The Stones 62 mile event in July.

Legs started to fail me after just 16 miles but I managed it really well and just plodded it out with with a strong state of mind. Job done.

Might do more of a report in the next day or so, it was a good event.

GD well done. Impressive so soon after a mara. All good training both mental and physical.
DT forgot to say nice pic of raceways! It must always be freezing there. Ask Poacher too!
  • PoacherPoacher ✭✭✭
Lorenzo, you've not changed. Is that a pre-production Raleigh Chopper?

Gul I was looking out for you - heard there was a top bloke somewhere out on the course, really tall and in legendary shoes which had done 10,000 miles.

Super pic of Team Jersey - note that all the glasses on the OO side of the table are empty.

Great effort GD - welcome to a whole new sport.

Still can't walk properly but I put some old pedals on the bike which release with very little rotation and completed a trepidatious 45m. This could be the way ahead.

Fish yes Comrades, the best, although absolutely not the hardest and certainly not up there with BG or the other real toughies. The best bit is the start, tail end of the night, everyone nervous, the singing bring tears to the eyes. Don't think I will ever be up to doing it again but it should be on everyone's list.

This is the start: much pain lies ahead, along with a lot of boiled potatoes.

Loving everyone's pics - keep 'em coming.

The Raceway. Gul's fave event. Yawn. 'Nuff said.

Poacher - I think the shorts were the real giveaway though ;) The start of Comrades must be awesome.

    great effort, G-Dawg - kudos  . . .

    nice 18, Gul

and impressive parkrunning by the Jersey two, after the finely tuned fuelling strategy  . . .

might have to check my photo shoebox again  . .

12 miles for me to bring up 48 for the week.  Creeping up towards respectable mileage week by week (although I'll probably actually make next week a cutback week: I don't think I've had a recovery week for 6 weeks).
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭
Nice parkrunning in Jersey chaps and nice 2nd, OO.

Much respect, G dawg. Well done.

Lovely pic, Lorenzo. Nice park running.

Poacher, what's up with Long marston? Did you not like? I raced there three times and walked away with prizes twice and a pb on other occassion.

Gul, you look slightly drunk in those London shots! Well done to Kings lynn. I think our lot are happy about that as it's a pig of a trip from here.

    Nice going, Joolska.

Local 10k today. I only do it as its a mile from my house and takes in one of my main training loops. The reason why is that is very hilly. 472 feet of gain over 10k!!!

It's my 7th go at it having set course pbs in 17 and 18 (39.47 and 39.46). It's usually 3 weeks after London so i was a little wary being 2 weeks out this time, albeit i was confident i was in better shape. As always it's an 11am start and the sun was out.

Came in 39.04 for 6th place and annoyingly only 5th in my cat!! Unfortunately both 4th and 5th were in my cat. Really pleased with that. Biggest chunk I've taken off in one go. Hoping with fuller recovery and focused training i can at least pb by end of July, and maybe sub 38.

Great time there DT and glad you are building the miles without any problems Joolska.
I tried some pacey miles on the beach in Jersey, to build some speed before Wednesday’s club 10k. 36 miles for the week which is an easy one for me- but I am on holiday 😇

Hello strangers. This is a fun flashback to when I first got to know you all for the 2011 VLM. Have had a few issues along the way and two major ankle surgeries.  I am not quite back from the latest one but am now trying a few minutes of running here and there a couple of times a week now.  It is early days and I am not sure when I will be able to properly run again, but it feels more optimistic than it did when Mr Random Consultant said I would never run again.  (Thank the good Lord for James Calder!

This is my last marathon when I was not injured, VLM 2015.  Although I say "not injured" when I had, in fact, badly sprained my ankle at mile 3 and ran the remaining 23.2 miles on it to run 2:58.  I have serious unfinished business with the marathon so hope to be back on here soon.  Keep on keeping on you lot.  Good to see familiar faces running well. Looking forward to joining you soon.

PS BadBark - commiserations but do relax and take some time off if you want to keep running. Read up on the stories here and plan your comeback! https://trainbrave.org/resources

Great to hear from you MsE will be great to have you back soon!

MsE: ah, nice to see you around these parts again.
  • SBD.SBD. ✭✭✭

Hope the recovery continues MsE - you're due some good fortune - and we look forward to hearing more about your next marathon campaign!

Excellent time DT.  Have you decided on a target fast 10K race?

    Very disciplined build up Jools.

Raceways will be sadly missed.  My best two 10K times were run there (including a 37:5x) and the start area music was just brilliant!

I feel a need to do Comrades but may be in a year or two.

Excellent work on the ultra G-D - I would struggle to run 33 miles at the moment!

That's a quick build up back to 18 miles Gul.  Any plans for an Autumn marathon?

Good socialising and park running OO and Gerard!

Just short of 14 miles for me today at an average 7:40 m/m pace.  Finally joined up my regular out and back runs to give a 10 mile circuit and then added on a few more miles.  It's a bit hilly but an excellent circuit!

That gives me 62 miles for the weeks which I'll try and maintain before the next marathon campaign.

Pretty focussed on the Plymouth HM for the next week, but it would be good to chase a fast 10K time after that.

It's such a good run I thought I'd share the elevation profile!

Welcome back MsE! A fast runner with the potential to be fast again. Do stay around.

Raceways: dull course, only ran it once, the consolation was that at one of the runway-end turns a marshal had some huge speakers blasting out hardcore blues at ear-bleeding volume. Other than that, meh.

SBD when you have done that you can traverse the beautiful Pitons in St Lucia

Still unable to walk properly but managed some 40m of low-impact bike time round fairly flat bits of rural Lancashire today. Progress of a sort.
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭

Miles 6-11 don't look much fun there, SBD! I have entered the Magor 10k at the end of July as a first attempt and then Telford in December. I have a few other 10k's scattered over the summer but none of them likely to deliver a pb given the course profile.

    Welcome back, MsE.

Little bit achy today. No running planned, just spin this evening. Will just tick over this week with an eye on the Trent 5 newt Wednesday evening.

Got off my ass for a 10 miler yesterday after feeling sorry for myself all last week (holiday hangover); legs were trashed from an angry gym session at the end of the week but held on to an average below 8/mile. Good to get the double digits back. Pace is not there but hopefully I won't let the team down too much at the relays on Sat. I do seem to have piled on the weight a bit since Manchester (5kg) so need to have a word with myself; starting to resemble StevieWh from his old pic  :D

Very impressed with the Londoners hitting other races so soon; well done DT on a decent 10k time; and nice friendly competition at the Jersey smackdown OO  and Gerard
