After the early miles we might well go our separate ways

4m easy, then an expo trip, although i didnt actually go into the expo. The world majors thing was confusing i eas told to queue up at wold major desk after gfa and ended up with duplicate numbers. On way back now, 6hrs of pretty busy public transport, fingers crossed i can avoid CV. Brasher was being interviewed  for BBC, i said i hipe they ask him why folks are travelling to an indoor bag drop and number collect.

My bag finally arrived today. I'll go myself Friday morning. The abbot's things is a red herring to me  with enough else to sort out, I'll not be doing anything for that....
    https://www.parkrun.org.uk/sutcliffe/results/latestresults/

I'm running at this Parkrun in London on Saturday. I'll be there with family and just jogging. If anyone London based fancies a run out and chat please come along 👍
  • Back from the Expo and all merched up.
Process was organised but hardly runners there. We arrived by 11.00am. I can see that it will get very busy for Friday morning onwards. They have the tape up for the queue lines.

Not so many stands this year. Clif were not there which is a shame, I like the samples and usually get stuff from them. No massages for those that like to have one at the Expo.

Age group champs runners must go to the right most number collection areas where our back numbers are ready and they print the front ones. 8 safety pins given out and an info flyer.

No envelope or bag to carry the numbers, so if you're not buying stuff, take something to put the numbers in.

Yellow seems to be a gathering area. Not sure if we do the red or blue start. There was a blue cord on my bag which usually denotes start but may not this year?

Mate who came with me didn't get his bag in time, they had loads there, so no problem. As he was checking his bag in, his wife sent him a picture of the bag that had just arrived at his house this morning!!

Rest day today and also my birthday, so I'll be breaking my own race week rule and have a couple of cheeky beers later to help with the nerves and to add to the carb load. 🤗

Happy birthday G-Dawg! Enjoy the carb-loading ;)  I hadn't twigged about the lack of Yellow start until I looked at the map again. My registration email definitely says "Start Colour YELLOW" but there's no yellow start on the map! Maybe they've forgotten to set it up LOL. Like you say, seems like we must be on Blue or Red...  Is there anything on the bib to indicate which one?

Just looked at the number. It's red, yellow background. Number colour always the start location, as it's easy for the start area marshals to direct runners, so the bag cord theory is out.

    27843 is my number...

    Happy Birthday Dawg.
How did it go with lateral flow test. Do you need electronic proof or just the home kit test results?

    Cheers OO.
Home kit result email/SMS from government website was fine. Printed version can also taken.
They were hot on it. Got asked in the car park, at the hall entrance and at the number collection kiosk.

To be clear, I did a LFT at home yesterday and recorded the result on the government website. The test last week and yesterday were my first ever, so I'm unsure on how others may work?

I took a photo of the LFT just as a backup but didn't need it.

Expo for me as well.  Arrived at 3:10pm and left by 3:50pm.  All pretty civilized and as per G-D on the details.

Negative test on the NHS lateral flow test this morning and the result on the phone as a text message for the expo.  The kit bag arrived this morning, so I managed to pack before heading off.  Cinnamon & Raisin Bagels and Nature Valley bars to look forward to!

I drove to Excel which was easier than expected (1.5 hours door to door) but didn't wanted to spend more time than necessary in the exhibition hall which was a shame.

MP test this morning, 13K with the middle 3K at marathon effort.  Although sunny, it was a bit windy so split the 3K in to an out and back 1.5K to take out the effect of the wind.  Splits came out as 6:12, 6:17 and 6:10/m - so a bit too quick really!  Will need to keep a reign on the early pace on Sunday.

Yes you will SBD. Easy early miles was a get out of jail card in Berlin 😉
    Thanks for the tips guys...
  • GD - looks like red start then.
How about you, SBD? Looks like you're ready to go!
OO - early easy miles sound good to me :)
Just a couple of those easy miles this morning and that's it for me.

Yes, carb-loading here too. Trying to increase the percentage of carbs in my intake rather than increase the overall intake, if you get me. And thanks for the list, SBD :)

  • I forgot to ask about the app. When I first downloaded it, I read (in How to Use the App, I presume) that you needed to nominate up to 2 supporters to view your more detailed location info (i.e. every 2 mins) from somewhere within the app. But I couldn't find the right page to do this. Now that bit about nominating 2 supporters has disappeared (or at least I can't find it!) I presume that was an error or a feature of an earlier version and they forgot to remove it from the instructions.

     Start (Red), Wave 1 (9:30am)

    SBD -  23668 - 2:52

    G-D - 27843

I'm on the carbs too and had a last swim today. Heading off this PM and will hit the Expo early tomorrow. My time is speculative and I'll back off if 6bey lags are too tired. Hopefully see some of you at the pub 🤞

Hope you're on form after last weekend, OO? I'll be looking for a piggyback at some point.

The anxiety is really annoying. 21st marathon and 8th London yet the nerves are as bad as ever. Hate it!

Sorry SBD, cant bold the lettering on my phone.

Dawg - relax man, the best you can be on the day is all you can promise yourself. This will be a day to enjoy after all the lockdown running......focus on controlling the process and not the result, get interested in the result late on. The result comes from the process......(relax upper body, gels, water, luco, stay relaxed, keep the pace easy for as long as possible........).

Better than 3:00.00 is my aim as i already have one of those to my name. Will hopefully have a comfortable-ish ride for as long as possible and be an overtaker rather than the overtaken late on.

I haven't had time to think about it this week, work has been non-stop.

I think there is something more nerve racking in trying to cross that line of 3 hours. I was horrific before my first attempt in Brum 17 then Yorkshire 18. I think it just feels like all the pressure in the world is upon you to hit fine margins.

I have been a lot more chilled about them since. I guess if I was going for another threshold time of significance like sub 2.40 I might be edgy, I just want to pb and if I go sub 2.50 in the process that's great.

Poncho arrived today, kit bag didn't. Though chances of rain now look very slim.

  • OO54OO54 ✭✭✭
I found an old cheap poncho from a previous race so will use that- not Berlin it's too fresh and 'precious' -maybe in 5 years 😄
Agree with TR and DT. Of course easy for me with Berlin under the belt. Some of my pals stressing, especially where its their first and last mara for 2 years.

  • Do you have your number correct OO? Only I put you in the tracker and I'm pretty sure that you don't come from China.

Expo was rubbish. No pace bands, so I might have to try writing some of the key ones (and anything post Canary Wharf) on my arm and hope it doesn't wash off in the rain. No Lucozade, no Sweatshop. Not much of anything really. Weirdly a dog food stand and a cat food stand. It took me about 3 minutes to walk around the whole thing. It was quite empty, but not many were wearing masks (I was). There are a number of other exhibitions going on as well, lots of folks in pricey looking suits. None of them were wearing masks either. My parking was a fine choice though. Literally 5 minutes away and significantly cheaper than the actual ExCel parking.
  • It’s always such a good build up. Fingers crossed for all of you. A bit jealous TBH. But glad to have deferred, maybe next year. Looking forward to the race reports. Just DBS.
