  • MsE - watch out ramping up to a higher mileage P and D- that's what injured me in Spring 09 ! B and B - do you student types still listen to the "Hit parade " then ! How retro... Sensible reduction in sessions from the snot-ridden crew (me included). I always struggle terribly with a mixture of guilt and frustration when forced to miss things. Nothing for me yesterday but planning a gentle 5 or 6 on the mill after work Think my annual mileage will be in the 2400 region

X-post  KR - glad you were amused by the hit parade comment too

Blimey FW that's some yearly milage. I just passed the 2,500 mark on my Gramin and that started last April (2009)!
  • KR  Good run and very impressive reps.

SBD  Nice run, it always feels better when you have been putting it off then force yourself out.

    BOTF  Nice club session

Ant  More good miles. It is good to let the body know the mind is in charge.

AC   Could you explain why I was under the impression you had entered Comrades??

B&B Nice 10 miler. I do the majority of my runs on the loop line at the moment. The snow is very compact/stable and there is no ice to speak off. Good stable running is easier there then on main roads. It is hard work on the knees however.

Luna  Enjoy your break, hope you get there on time.

Lorenzo Good running as always. Hope the cough stays away, hope MM gets well soon. I can also feel a cough coming on but am popping pills and hoping for the best.

10.6 miles for me today. After the 13 yesterday I felt tired before I went out. Ignoring what I said yesterday, after a 2 mile warm up I decided to throw some PMP in, lets just say it was not the brightest idea I have ever had. Whilst the ground is firm, there was no traction when I went for pace. I went 7:12, 7:38 (uphill) and 7:54 (downhill?). By which stage I had given up and it was just a case of getting to the end. I passed my house at 8 miles. I am happiest that I forced myself to stay out and even ran an extra half mile to prove I was in chargeimage Recovery day tommow.

MsE I must also agree in relation to staying on the P&D <55 schedule. You seem to have a few niggles and cross training would seem better than increased miles in the legs.

Good to hear there is some determined running going on despite the slushy conditions. Well done everyone (does that sound a bit gay?)!

Thanks for the words of advice on which schedule I should stick to. (My husband would be absolutely amazed at this but) I will do as you all suggest as, despite many years of running (leisurely jogging?), this will be only the second training schedule I will have followed. The first was my summertime HM schedule which got me to 1.33. Perhaps I should play it safe and see what following the regime to the letter gets me and then tinker the second time around. I already am thinking about adding in Abingdon to my race list for 2011 so, ceterus paribas, perhaps I could tinker with the schedule for that.

Gul - thanks for the weather update - my kids will be delighted to arrive (if we arrive?) in Norfolk with more of the white stuff everywhere. They are already ridiculously excited about Saturday and seeing snow will certainly add to their frenzy. Your comment about the main roads made me smile. The drive to Norfolk always makes me lose the will to live by the time we have arrived at the in-laws' house.

    MM - get well soon!

Beware Lorenzo, Scooby and MM. My throat felt sore on Sunday night, having felt no ill effects during the 16 miler earlier in the day. V. sore on Monday and mild cold symptoms inc blocked nose on Monday eve. Woke at 7.15 Tues morning with a phone call from a friend, confirming he will come over for a xc 5 miler and didn't have the heart to cancel on him. The run felt hard despite being slow and yesterday I got steadily sicker. Coughing and feeling the cold on my chest in the evening and felt totally wiped out. A bit better today, nose is clear and sore throat gone, but I'm still coughing, I've got no energy and feel tired. Certainly no running for me for a day or two. A pity as I had hoped to have a big week before taking it easier next week.

MsE - I echo other comments. Go for the easier schedule and if that works, up it next campaign. Better to do something properly rather than burn out or injure yourself by taking on too much. Actually, when you study the 2 schedules, there is little to chose between them. If you feel you can run a few extra miles in your MSR than the <55 schedule dictates, then go for it. But that is no reason to force yourself to start a schedule which is too hard.

Not that we should encourage mileage for mileage sake but I think I'm in similar territory Fraser - will have to do a check at the end of the year.  Whatever the figure it's certainly a lot more than I did in 2009image

Good choice of race and if you follow SBDs structure for 2010 (<55 schedule for spring marathon, <75 schedule for Abingdon) I am sure you will smash 3.15. But for those of us who didn't attend a grammar school, could you translate the latin? image
  • MsE. The snow has stopped and I don't think it will last till Saturday.

Mileage this year for me is just under 800.

  • Roughly, "All things being equal", Keir. I take it your Googling finger's not too well either image Sorry to hear you've been properly struck down mate. Hope you're sorted in time to get some proper Christmas drinking in.

Huuuuuuuge mileage from our sub3ers. Well done chaps. Having only bought my Garmin around June, I haven't got a clue what mileage I've done but divide yours' by 10 and you'll be nearer! Hoping for more next year.

Good plan MsE. AT least, when you've hit your target with the <55 mile schedule, you'll probably improve significantly with the extra mileage for Abingdon.

Probably going to get lambasted by Scooby but, depending on how Edinburgh goes, I wouldn't mind doing Abo next year. It's obviously good for times as it's flat and I like the idea of a big thread get-together. (Or does that sound gay?!)

image Oi Dorset boy. Enough of your cheek (from me, to you etc)
  • I'll be at Abindgon too all being well. A massive multi-carriage thread High Speed Train sounds like a splendid idea. We could all link hands and run with flowers in our hair
  • KeirKeir ✭✭✭

What can we do to persuade MM to lead this flower-powered train?

  • Am also tempted by Abo - have PB'ed there twice (including my sub 3:15) there in two attempts and I'd heartily recommend it.

I know it gets full up quickly - does anyone know when entries open for 2011?

  • Mileage for me this year is 614! Although Bike miles is over 2000

I think getting his 83 min HM will do more than we can.

Ooh x-post: Do you think he heard me?!

    Good bike miles Steve.

  • What date is Abingdon next year? I'd prefer somewhere a bit closer to home, but if it falls during half-term it could be a goer.

Snow-watch: apparently, it's still snowing in mid-Norfolk and settling.
