AA. - congrats. Job done very nicely. Two very good races in short succession as well.
  • Amazing, AA. Well done image. Now rest up, you've earned it image

Kiwi: Agree, those celebration were brilliant. Really loved the idea with those balloons. Re orthotics: go back to the place that made them and have them adjusted. I had mine done in London and they were bliddy expensive too. While they sorted my (then) foot pain, the aggravated my knees so I went back and had them corrected. Didn't cost me a penny. Then of course I lost them during our move ... but that's another story. I bet they'll turn up one fine day in a totally unexpected place image

No running yesterday but 2 hours on the bike. Hope the breathing is easier when I try a run tonight ...

  • hi guys,

thanks for the orthotics advice, i have had my gait etc done + they are customed for me, would cry if i addded up how much the podiatrist visits + orthotics cost! Could try going back but really not keen to have to pay!!

  • Kiwi: unless they are real rogues they should see you for free and sort out the problem

AA has passed on her cold through cyberspace so I have abandoned the idea of running tonight image

  • Jeez O4S that sounds epic. Do you do this for fun?! It sounds like the sort of thing they get french foreign legion recruits to doimage

Orthotics - I used some for a while (over a year), but then they gave me a foot problem so I ditched them and havn't looked back image But yes they also adjusted mine before I decided to go au naturel

AA - nice just knocking out a sub 3:30 for fun. Quality.

I have now managed 2 30+ mile weeks on the trot, so starting to feel more like a runner again, which is aching and tiredimage 37 miles planned for this week.

  • Congratulations AA brilliant imageimage

Sounds like a good day out O4S & I hope you opted for the pub!

How did your run go Chick?

    Nice miles there Ant

Saturday started with a trip to the lake with one of my friends who was getting in & I tagged along to see what it is all about - mainly nice & cold! We then ran 6 miles along the Swindon HM route - yes I did actually run & surprisingly enjoyed it!

I also had a one to one swimming lesson in the afternoon where I was timed swimming 8 x 50's with kickboard & fins followed by 8 x50's without. It was hard. I had a quick change before going back to the pool to tag onto Barry's session where he was booted out of the lane to make way for me image. It was a one off as one of my sessions had been cancelled earlier in the week.

Back to the pool for early morning training today & it was 10 x 300's or as many as you can do followed by 8 speed lengths. I'm tired tonight.

Will try & run again tomorrow or Wednesday as I have a 10k Sunday which has come round really quick.

  • AA- very well done again.image Glad to hear it was enjoyable too.image

O4S- nice running against the elements.

Pink- what's the target for the 10k?

Track for me this morning before work. London xc Champs on Parliament Hill on Saturday...image.

  • AA - that's a really good result image

    O4S - mad image

Pink - your swim training sounds tough!

Bro - rather you than me on that hill image

Not been able to get a run in since Sunday - 18 miles - today I should manage one though.

  • Pink - that's a lot of swimming you do - you have do a tri next year. They are great fun.

Bro - PHF XC - sweet. I have signed up to the Nationals there in February - you going to be there yourself?

5x1000 intervals for me last night. Felt good.

  • Ant- not sure about the Nationals... will tell you after this Saturday...image

  • Hi AA, Well done on the Riviera Marathon. Great time and glad things went well in the end ;0) What was the course like? I did contemplate that one last year and had a look at the elevation and it looked ok apart from around Antibes?

Rain in the South of France? They must have waited for you! image

Hi Barry, Yes I seem to have lost a minute somewhere on that split eh ? Still just swimming and cycling Barry?

Hi o4s, Have you ever considered taking a camera crew along on your jaunts? Sounds thoroughly entertaining stuff image

Hi 2old, Any running yet or are you waiting on your results before recommencing?

Hi kiwi, Never used orthotics, I was advised by a Chiropractor to use them for a nice sum of £300. I ditched him, quickly realised he was after my money (shame as I haven't got any) and went on a Chi Running class and have been fine since image

Hi Ant, Nice to see you again. Hope the teeth are ok? I like the description of a runner....pretty accurate!

Hi Pink, Nice running, hope the 10k goes ok. Booting Barry out of the lane eh? Dear, Dear ;0)

Hi Freemers, Are you back to full fitness now?

Bit of a crappy week so far, hectic at work which has involved working into the early hours of the morning. Went out Sunday for 10 miles at average 7:10mm kind of progressive with a slower first half. Went out for 4.5 yesterday averaging 7:28mm though I could feel a bit of PF in the left foot. Broke off onto more trail surface and it felt ok. Has been alright today so will get working on the golf ball to make sure! Nothing today, feel like someone is playing football inside my head....

  • Ant / Bro have you done the nationals before ? I'm kind of tempted, seems a long way to go for a short run, and I'd expect to be one of the slowest there. The word "nationals" is a it intimidating, given that I'd typical come in mid way or a bit lower in a normal local x country.... But then again I image it would be a great experience and impressive to watch the elite men's event
  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
AA - your weekend marathon was so impressive and the photos look fab. You are well and truly back to marathon running. image

Chick - that chest never ceases to cause you problems. image. I bet you're dreading the winter. Surgery is in Dec and have a meeting with the surgeon tomorrow for further discussions.

Pink - yes, I also wear a hat but that's not helping. Back on antibiotics again.

Kiwi - why does the good leg always start hurting when the other improves?!! So typical!

O4S - you're as crazy as ever! Great running! Are you enjoying retirement?

Nell - do you do the Borders XC? There are some pretty decent triathletes from up your way so I guess that Forth swimming builds hard as nails swimmers, as you would expect!
  • Minni: the jury is still out on retirement, but a lot of that is due to being out of action with the broken rib (still not fully recovered) and the seemingly never-ending stream of builders / tradesmen passing through the house. Our shower room is currently a bomb site waiting for a plasterer to arrive tomorrow image  I feel I have project managed a major refurbishment of the Taj Mahal already and still the kitchen to go..........Definitely need to get my brain a bit more active, but you wouldn't believe the hoops you have to jump through to be a volunteer, even for something as simple as collecting an elderly persons library books for them. Faced with a 32 page application form for one volunteering role I lost the will to live image

Anyway it was a beautiful day yesterday so I managed two bike rides (2 hours in total) 45 minutes running, a one hour dog walk with a friend and an hour of spinning, plus plying the bathroom wreckers with tea and biscuits. I have got through more sugar in the 5 months since we moved than in the previous 10 years!!image

Off now to take BA for a gentle trot, interval session with the club tonight

    Good Luck tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
Just a low excercise day then O4S?!!! It's a shame its so hard to volunteer these days. I'm sure it puts a lot of people off.

Interesting appointment at hospital yesterday. All set for surgery in 3 weeks to repair the labrum which is 1/3 torn, apparently. While in there they will pull the hip joint out and have a good look around! Still not sure what I will be like after or what the recovery will be as it depends on what they do. But, the general feeling seems to the area appears to be in good nick so I'm hoping everything is straight forward.
  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
O4S - how do you find spinning? I went a couple of weeks ago but to wrecked my hip. Cycling seems to be ok but the spinning was mostly out the saddle and not do good.
  • Some classes are mainly in the saddle, some not - our instructor always tells people who are new to spinning to stay in the saddle but have the same high tension. Cycling across the Pyrennees was mainly out of the saddle and I find it very comfortable, but I have probably done a lot more cycling than many folk at a gym class.

Running 15 miles to Bath today with the club - trying out a new Brew Pub at the end!

Fingers crossed for the op - just don't try to do too much too soon afterwards, I'm sure that has delayed my recovery from the broken rib, which still hurts. image

Hi guys back after a week in the sun. Managed 29 miles running and 4miles swimming plus lots of exercise classes in all. Only low spot was another dizzy spell with heart rate all over the place which was a bit worrying . Anyway more tests this week. Twickenham today.

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
Enjoy Twickenham 2old. I'm in front of the telly for the afternoon.
  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
O4S - the recovery concerns me more than the op. The surgeon explained that as it is a relatively new procedure generally physios don't know about the recovery. I've made it clear that I want his team to lead this and filter it down to my local physios but if this can't be done then I will travel back to the specialist physios at the hospital. This is an hour away so not ideal but if that's what it takes. It's a day procedure and I've requested to see the surgeon before I leave so I can know exactly what has been done.
  • 2Old2Old ✭✭✭

Minni- as a Welshman I found the game very enjoyableimage.Hope the op goes well. Have you googled for comments of others who have had it? When is it by the way ...I'm a bit out of the loop. I always spin with my bum on the seat...I do so little cycling I need to concentrate on conditioning that area.

O4S- there's so much red tape these days even to volunteer. Like the way you visit new pubs.

  • Brol - How was the xc, soggy?

nell - Good pace on your run.  I'm back running now see below.

O4S - Retirement sounds good, plenty of training time.image

2old - Glad you enjoyed the rugby.image I turned on for the second half and thought we were going to turn it around.  Bad news about another dizzy spell, hope the tests are conclusive.

Minni - Your surgery sounds serious, hope it sorts out the issue.

Lots of mixed training or me this week, and feeling pretty tired.

Mon - Hour in the pool
    Tues - 40 mins bike 30 min s & c.
Wed - 40 mins swim then 40 mins slow run.
    Thurs - 1 hour bike 30 mins s & c
    Fri -  Swim Club
    Sat - Swim Club
Today - Brick session, yeah i got the lingoimage, 10 miles bike and 40mins run.

  • Brol How did you get on with the Cross Country?

Minni You can also buy something that helps ears when you swim but i'm not sure what it's called. Good luck for the op hope it goes well for you.

    O4S Enjoy your retirement

Swam Thursday & Friday evening. Ran 6 miles yesterday with a friend who is taking part in her first half Ironman next year - the hills beckond. Ran Swindon 10k this morning & finished in under the hour 59.09 but happy with that considering I haven't done much running training. It was my last race of this year. Now swimming is up to speed need to get more running miles in.

  • HI Minni, Been a bit lazy and not sorted anything out, so the answer is no image I think to swim in the Forth you have to me very slightly unhinged. Last time I did that I think I was about 7 so have a good argument of not knowing any better ;0)

Hi Barry Good to see you back to the road and using the lingo now too...very impressive!

Well done on the 10k Pink image

I had a bit of a hectic time at work last week and then down to Birmingham Friday night. I had a choice of 2 runs to attend over the weekend, 3 if you count the parkrun my cousin asked me along to. I did none, but managed 6 miles this morning before I headed home, and that was just to clear my head before hitting the road and making me feel a little better before I sat in the car for 5 hours drinking coffee and snacking... Ran at 7:14 mm average.

  • Hmmmm......The club run to Bath yesterday was not without incident, including losing BA on the cycle path diversion due to some local yobs moving the diversion signs. Most of the rest of us also went wrong, but he spent an hour wandering round until, quite by chance, he stumbled across the point he had originally left the path - so he turned round and ran back to Bristol. Shame, it was a good pub!  Another 15 miles today off road and hilly, but at a very pedestrian pace.

Barry: more training time would be good if I wasn't an OAP image  The one thing I have learned the hard way is that you have to cut back the training and / or mix it up more if you want to stay injury free. Also the start of all the extra free time coincided with breaking my rib image

2Old: sitting on the bike won't tone your bum - and I should know after our 4,000 mile ride across North America. If it did I would be in the running for 'Rear or the Year' image

  • Well done pink image

O4S - BA seems to get lost a lot, is he trying to tell you something? image

Didn't run much last week, but got a 6 mile tempo in on Saturday and then 15 LSR yesterday.

  • Free: only that he has the navigational skills of a retarded amoeba!

although he gets lost at regular intervals I have never managed to lose him completely, although maybe next time..............................image

  • MinniMinni ✭✭✭
Pink - nice running there off not much run training.

    Who's doing VLM 2015?
  • 2Old2Old ✭✭✭

Minni- VLM15-?-.fingers toes and everything else crossed.

O4S- ok ,maybe not a toned bum ,conditioned perhaps ? I suppose what those yobs did wasn't as bad as what Simon( where is he?) suffered when they strung a cord across the road. ..but still they need their unconditioned bums kicking . Your 15 is like my 5 mile run.

Free- just keep ticking over...when does your marathon training start ?

pink- great 10k. It's amazing the fitness swimming can develop. A couple more runs in addition and you'll strip minutes off your 10k pb.

Barry- mixing it up nicely there. Lots of swims too. Hooked by it yet?

today-10mile run,MRI ,2k swim. ECG fitted tomorrow to wear for the day. I'm going to ask if it's ok to do a trendy 5 with it on .
