Great news Mr Spoons - on the docs and the gear!

Nice timing Gobi, will slot MP into my schedule on that basis.

    Welcome back freemers.

So tired last night, 8 half mile reps and I could not manage the pace I should have. Legs just would not turn. Did then at 6:26mm pace and it was tougher than when I do 2 miles at that pace!! Had a bowl of soup then went to bed. Pleased that I did the 9 miles in total. 9 slow miles for tonight.

Good that your Dad has a date for his op HY4.

A couple of the guys I know did a local 24 hour mountain bike event (the Strathpuffer) at the weekend - sounded tough! Mud, rain and cold - sounded like the sort of event you'd like jaycm! image

    F

  • Fiona - I've never done a 24 hr MTB event, but a few of the lads I ride with regularly do the Saab Solomon Mountain Mayhem 24hr... unfortunately that always occurs on the weekend of my wedding anniversary so a pass is kind of out of the question image Strathpuffer would certainly be tough, especially given the conditions and time of year. Well done to your mates; And yep, I'd love it! Great pace on the run... and that was when you're feeling tired?!!

NP - 1 mile swim; I'm a reasonable swimmer but don't think I could manage that. New Years res to take the kids each Wednesday and they've got to do 20 x 25m before they can go off and play. I did 20 with my daughter last week and she beat me by over half a length image Must improve!

4.1 mile off road hill repeats lunchtime, 20 mile MTB ride this evening... plus 9 mile commute. Plenty of cals to be burned today...

Jay - Rach spent her 30th birthday counting laps while I ran round a track in Wales. You could always ask :¬)

    No worries Fiona.

I spent 75 minutes doing intervals on the turbo this morning.

    All good fun:¬)

Just over 8 miles progressive tempo this morningimage lots of black ice aboutimage.

Jason you have built your miles up a bit of leapfrog going onimage nice.

Mr Spoons I see a tri coming on...........

Fiona well done on your rep's you will reap the benefit come April. I felt a bit like that last night doing my recovery run on the dreadmill.

Jayc cross post, nice swimming for all the family well done to the daughter, i'm crap at swimming but getting better each week, this has built up from the summer when I did a sprint tri and found out how bad I am at swimming.image

Recovery week for me though this week, so you should get your nose in front. Ribbit!image

    Jay,

Know what you mean about asking to do things on anniversary weekends etc.  There's a local 10k which is very close to Chris' birthday & I've usually avoided it because of this however this year if things go to plan I'll be doing.

    ---------

    Well done on everyone's training.

  • Our main problem is when things clash with Mothering Sunday.  Not because I am bothered but because of the Monster in Law.  Luckily after she tried to manipulate things last year OH has said we will forget taking her out to lunch and just do tea instead.  Means I'll have no problem doing my last weekend run before Pars image
  • Jay - it sounds like your wife is as unreasonable as mine! Personally I can't see the problem with a 24 hour race on your anniversary image

I have an offer of a road bike to borrow, but no pedals. Apparently I need to find those shoes with clips on.....
  • Lots of good racing at the weekend,

    AGF very controlled indeed!

Mr Spoons sounds just like my type of race. I did the 10k run part of Norwich Tri last year as part of a relay team. Well over 10k, mostly off road with a tough climb, but a really enjoyable route and event.

jaycmoore well done on the massive pb!!!

All good here but a very busy week. Catch you all when I canimage

  • Thanks TomS and No Pain, much appreciated.
  • Busy on here again!

Nice long runs to NP, Bridget, Jason (congrats on a great 10k time) and super mileage for the week.

Fiona: yep, it's P&D but I tweak it to my own liking. I will do the MP work but later in the game. If I remember the schedule correctly the first MP run was 2 weeks in or something silly like that. Not a chance! That's a lot of 20+ milers you are doing (goes off to count her own: 8). And not a chance to squeeze in more - or I need to drop some races which would be a pity. Who knows, I may do a Jason - race a half and tag on another 7 miles ;-)

Great result in a tough race, Spoons

    And well done JayC

    Gobi & Rach: class act!

Yesterday was core stability & arms but no running. Then 8.5 miles today with strides.

Finished last week at 69. This week is a cutback one. Phew. Still got to do 13 tomorrow image
  • Zion - can you get your hands on a wetsuit and a bike? I've an idea....
  • Jay -we have 2 nights in a Dartmoor hotel booked the weekend after our 25th anniversary.  There is the little matter of an ultra on the Saturday though image
  • Good news about your Dad HY4, I'm keeping an eye on the post image I'm glad it was nothing serious MrS, better safe than sorry, I wonder what your idea is???? I feel another smackdown challenge coming on image

Went to the gym after work but I had forgot to put my trainers in (old age) so it was just a swim, first time I have swam without a workout first, makes a big difference. 66 x 25, according to Fetch 1.03M. still too slow though.

Fiona maybe it's all that Nutella image I was in Tesco last night looking at it, managed to resist.

  • I didn't go in Tesco just to stare at Nutella btw

Able to be on call from home tonight due to the Officer cover so use my own treadmill which I have had for 3 years but never seem to use. So did 1km warm up then 8 x 800m @ 6mm pace with 200m jogs between, the reason it is 6mm pace is that it only goes as fast as 16kmph but better than nothing and still happy with that.image

Chick I did that last year and plan on doing the same this year. 8 x 20+ mile runs will be fine, what sort of time are you aiming for this year?

LOL at USB  I take it Mr USB also runs, I must pop back on to your thread and have a peekimage

Tom thats great swimming mate 64 x 25m = 1 mile, I now have a picture of you running down to Tescos and standing in front of the jars of Nutella and droolingimage lol.

Mr Spoons you will get hurt in the smack down lol....... The pedals and clip in shoes take a little getting use to.

  • NP - Mr Sparkly is a complete non-runner but hugely supportive image

chick- I have a week in March where the long run is 10 miles easy and 10 miles at MP. There is a local 15 mile race I have yet to do so am going to do v5 miles beforehand along the canal, start easy and then pick trhe pace up later
  • jason djason d ✭✭✭

Chick/ Fiona- good running. I'm following P&D as well and was supposed to do 10 today with 10x100mtr strides, but skipped the strides today. Also tweaked my schedule a bit- moved the double from monday to saturday and added a few miles. Long runs are all 18-24 after this week (recovery) with MLRs of 12-15m on Weds and Fridays. More emphasis on LT runs from next week

Tom- good swimmingimage Nutellaimage Whole Earth no added sugar peanut butterimageimage

I've got a half on Feb 13th and am going to add the LR miles on the end again. Wouldn't want to do it every week, but found the 10k before the long run to be a really good workoutimage

10.xx m for me today around 8.30 paceimage

  • Tom, there are some Nutella Porn sites on the net you might be interested in.

USB - you're a lucky lady re: Mr Sparkly.

Club night for me tonight. Did a strange but tough mixed up session of sprints, intervals and hills. 6.8 miles. Great fun.

I have been doing my long runs with a club mate who is my pace and doing Brighton marathon. I showed her the revised schedule with Gobi's alterations and MP additions. I don't think she was very impressed lol.
  • jason djason d ✭✭✭

NP- Good running and sounds plenty fast enough at this stage-??

    Ribbit! imageimage

  • Did 6.33 miles tonight and the 'easy' pace was actually 10.59 mm.  I still know the hamstring is there and won't be pushing it too much but it was a nice feeling

    Anyone doing Watford Half?

  • Fiona CFiona C ✭✭✭

Tom/NP, image I normally stare/drool at most of the fattening food in the supermarket then buy the good stuff (with exceptions!) But last night's 8.3 miles was great. Ok it was easy but could not resist going a tiny bit faster at the end.

Another good mileage week chickadee. I hope to stay around 60 - 65.

Looks like Mr Spoons has a cunning plan!

Sounds like an ideal way to spend an anniversary USB.

Nice TM running NP, mine goes to 18k/hr but no chance of me going at that pace!

Good plan jason, I might do the same as there are 2 halfs I could do before London.

    Well done guys.

    ---------

    Bridget,

Sounds as though it's getting easier for you.

  • GobiGobi ✭✭✭
LOL Spoons, what didn't she like ?

NP - 6mm is solid, how much faster would you go outside ?

This morning saw me running with 2 friends, One has a 1500metre PB of just over 4.10 and the other has a marathon PB of about 3.40 so 11.3 miles at 8.40 pace with lots of chatting :¬)
  • Gobi - Social running has its place in every training schedule image

USB - if I suggested a weekend away I'd get '+' brownie points. Add in an ultra and the '-' would wipe those out and more image

NP - don't put Mr S off clipless, I wouldn't go back to 'flat' pedals ever!

Mr S - what you need is shoes with cleats and clipless pedals (odd naming as you clip into them using a spring mechanism, but I think it comes from the fact that there are no toe-clip bands or cages needed). Compatible cleats come with pedals when you buy them. You just need shoes that have a fitting point for the cleats then. 'course you could wear trainers and buy a set of really cheap flat pedals from Halfords...

  • Gobi - I think it was just a lot more than she is used to. I did suggest that's why her PB is 3:51 and she is obviously capable of much more. She agreed to follow the schedule once I guaranteed it would deliver a sub 3:45 GFA place.

Jay - "really cheap flat pedals from Halfords". They sound perfect image

Just over 15 miles this morning with avg HR of 139 avg 7:41 pace so feeling good and legs are great.image

Chick thats a solid week for you how did the 13 mile run go?

USB my OH is the same and enjoys the shopping in diffrent citys, shoes, handbags make up it's her hobby.image

Jason <img title="Click image to view full size." src="http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/members/images/469713/Gallery/jumping_frog.gif" width="100" height="60" /> boooinnnngggg lol same here for the plan but with doing doubles on Tue/Thur easy run and swims Friday and hill run Saturday up to 12 miles, Wed max 15. Long Run Sunday 22+. Plan todo the Wed run to HR with tempo/interval runs on Tue and Wed. Also increase MP in long run from 4 miles to 6 miles over the next number of weeks.

Gobi last year I got them down to 5:50 pace that was the plan last night but my treadmill only reaches 6mm. I felt that these where very much under control and had more to give but it's a start. Question would you race a 10k one full week before a marathon?

Jayc I am the same regarding the pedals and have cleats and shoes but they do take a little getting use to.

    Mr Spoons enjoy

  • USB - probably doing Watford.
  • Afternoon all!

Had to laugh about Nutella porn! Must google it ... but not at work!!

NP: am aiming for sub 3:30 this time. With 3:38 in the bag at last year's VLM it should be doable. I shall soon be adding some double-days too and I am trying to do regular high 60/low 70 weeks, apart from the odd cutback that will have me do 50ish odd miles.
BTW, what happened to your post there image

Well, I was quite upset about stuff and slept badly. Wide awake at 4:30am. Got up, pulled my gear together and ran into work. 10mins quicker than normal (oops - I can feel a telling off by Gobi coming on). It felt really good though. Liberating. And I felt strong. The HR was too high for my liking but it didn't feel hard. Dunno if this makes sense. Probably not. Anyway 13.8 miles d&d and at my desk, showered and changed before 7:30.

NP not sure about racing a 10k a week out. But then - it's only 10k!
