  • I agree with Cake, pictures are required!

Sending hugs to Mikasa, and Steady, lets hope the physio/rest/strengthening work will sort you out.

Great running MC.  Which sportive did you do Cake & DS?

Saturday was a 40 miler from Warminster to Salisbury and back. . .. wore shorts, the start of the silly tan lines has begun!

Yesterday bit of a walk, picnic and a tiny recovery ride.

  • ooh, what a dilemna...guitar or bike? bike or guitar?  I guess you could go with a bike and an air guitar with the speakers turned up to 11.

I hope you're given a good prognosis tomorrow Mikasa.

DS & Cake - sounds like fun

I ran at the gym today as I left my garmin at home.  I'm even slower in the gym than I am on the road.  Odd.

I was speaking to a crazy ultra runner last week and she said that it wasn't distance that she needed but running every day...I guess I'm going running again tomorrow...

Seems to be a lot of us are slower in the gym on the treddie. It's just such hard work as you're not moving anywhere.

  • afternoon all

feeling a bit tired today!! Think yesterday took it out of me more than I thought due to the heat. So I think it will be a recovery turbo in a bit then skip swimming and an early night image

steady - hope you are sorted now.

amazingly my knees are not grumbling about yesterdays efforts though my hips are, but not too much

  • Well done MC!! Hopefully the 23rd won't be too hot image I went for a wee run around a lovely park in Bamberg with a friend who will joining us for the Little piglet and she ran the furthest she'd ever run image And I had my first ever alcohol free beer image

  • Well done MC! image

    Oh commiserations Mikasa image

    Bike photos please! image

Managed park run on Saturday and was not quite last. Yesterday my daughter and I went for our first proper bike ride since Christmas day. Am thrilled she didn't want to go fast because I could barely get my legs to work! She is only 10 but determined to do a London-to-Cambridge trip in the Summer Hols so we are going to train up together for that.

Am hoping to do my first swim for two months tomorrow.  So, very, very slowly getting back into the swing of things. Of course the beautiful sunshine is rather helpful image

What a busy weekend on here.

I am seeing the osteopath tomorrow as I had sciatica pains during the night and little sleep. Certain to get more exercises to do which I will stick to doing.

JP bike photos please and why did you go for that particular boardman bike, I quite fancy one when I upgrade.

  • chili - great to hear you are getting back to health, just take it steady

CJ - hope the osteopath can fix you

JP - yes, we need photosimage

Buttercup - sounds like you had a great time, I wondered where you were when we were arranging transport for youimage

1 hour 15 of fairly easy spin to loosen the legs up, that has woken me up and I wish I was going swimming now, but haven't got time to eat and swim, probably best to leave it anyway, I am good at overdoing things and burning out!!

  • I'll post pics when I pic Boardy up at the weekend, I went with the road pro because it works out a bit cheaper than it would be to upgrade the road team (eventually) and it has all internally routed cables.

I cycled to work on my old mountain bike, it's a heavy old thing but was lots of fun

good training everyone, I nowhere near where I should be with my swimming so have decided to join the local club on Wednesday and put all the blame on them image

(Scuttles off to look at crumpled magazine cut out of Boardman)

Hi Eco, it was the Jodrell Bank Classic Sportive.

Had a very enjoyable cani-x run with Dawn Dog this morning, the ground has dried out a lot making it less of a slog through the mud.  I don't mind if it stays like this for a bit.

  • Well done all over the weekend. We need bike porn please JP!

Been hit by whopping migraine this week. gonna have a breather till tomorrow. see it as taper b4 the Half on Sun image

  • 5k at lunch time and now my legs ache.  but in a good way. It's really sunny here and nearly warm.

  • SteadyCJSteadyCJ ✭✭✭

Mrs Digger you will be fine by Sunday.

The osteopath has straightened my rotated pelvis and got the piriformis muscle to ease off, which had tightened up and put pressure on sciatic nerve, hence the pain I was in.
Rest and recovery until Thursday evening for a gentle spin session.

  • Swam after work maybe 30 lengths (I lost count a couple of times) in around 20 minutes (I forgot my watch and without glasses the clock is just a blur)  still I was pleased with my progress.

    Legs a bit achy now.

Steady - great to hear you are on the mend,

I had my 15 min consultation. It is a hip flexor strain as I thought. She does not think I've sufficiently rested it so we're starting the recovery period again with anti inflammatories (sp?). I need to keep walking to a minimum and try not to sit too long as this shortens the hip flexor and when I stand up it stretches from cold and gives me pain. After walking/bath/having hot water bottle on my hip I can start stretching it slowly. I've booked a deep tissue massage with the same lady for next Thursday to work on the hip and loosen it up. She did say I could do some easy cycling if it doesn't affect me but I think I'll just rest this week. She did not think it was good at all  that I can't hop on my injured leg without it causing pain at all. She also suggested I start doing pilates and work on my core. ( I know I knowimage). But all in all happy though she said it might take up to 4 weeks to properly recover but at least I can do cycling in the meanwhile.

  • SteadyCJSteadyCJ ✭✭✭

Hip flexor stretches are on my do list Mikasa.

  • don't mention the core...I did once but I think I got away with it...

  • Had my appointment with the Chiropractor last night and she is pleased with my progress, imageshe manipulated my back again and gave me acupuncture in the muscle to loosen it up, I've felt great all week with no problems but no running yet,got another appointment in two weeks and no running until then, so I will do as I am told.

  • SteadyCJSteadyCJ ✭✭✭

Pete, don't mention it, just strengthen it.

Glad to hear you are making progress Razor.

  • razor, good to hear you are on the mend

I seem to be eating everything in sight even when I don't feel hungryimage need to stop doing that....

  • Whoop everyone seems to be on the mend - or at least has a plan of action to attain mended status image

My first tri of the season is the Wincanton sprint 400/20/5 and I'm aiming to do it in 1h40 with a target swim time of 10mins. The tri is in 6 weeks and so my swim coach got me to do a 400m TT last night to see how close to the 10mins I'm currently at: 9m50 image  She thinks we'll be able to get it down to 8mX which would be awesome.

I'm aware that these times are slow but its a pretty big deal for this seal pup.

  • 10k in 66 mins last night - including positive gradients which shall be termed 'hills' only 8 mins off PB so Im happy with that.  I also ran a 5.47 final km so figure I wasn't working hard enuff image It was meant to be a tempo run - all good.  I also ran over Thorpe hill, which is what we are going to run over twice for the LB Half - it is steep on one side, gentle on the other - on tired legs should be fun image

  • AliBear30AliBear30 ✭✭✭

I've hurt/pulled/messed up the top of my left ITB. So slow running is out and I get to experience the joys of aqua jogging image Going to feel even more of a muppet at the pool than I already do.  Foam Roller and aquabelt on order, blue tape applied and I survived the acupuncture and enjoyed the ultrasound.
I get to do 10 mins run walk sessions consisting of 1 min fast run 1 min walk every other day, then back for reassessment in 2 weeks time.
I can still keep up with my bike and swim sessions which is great but I suspect I will be feeling very soggy and stupid for the next two weeks image

  • Hurrah for all those working out their niggles! To those who think they're "not quick", you're a hell of a lot quicker than those sitting on the couch! Oh, and me image

Maths - I too seem to have 'the hunger' at the moment. Back to fitness pal me thinks. Gonna run tonight as the head seems better. Just what I call a residual headache left. Bring on Sunday - my giraffe ears headband has arrived and I am ready for Longleat!

  • buttercup - well done on the 10k time

ecoseal - that's a good 400m time, getting down to 8mins something in 6 weeks? If that happens you need to tell me your secrets!!

just a 5 mile run for me today, feeling pretty tired, but legs feeling good so happy

  • SteadyCJSteadyCJ ✭✭✭

I will be back to run 1 walk 1 to start with.

My 400m time is 9.xx, I would like it a bit quicker but I only very rarely manage to do 25m in under 30 seconds.

This resting lark takes a lot of working at, so not used to it. But hoping it will bring benefits.

  • 40min pootle out done.  REST Steady!!!!!!!!!!! (Stern voice).

  • I was really busy at work today so didn't get chance for a run, so I sneaked out just now in to the freezing night.  The road lit by the moon and stars, I didn't even need a head torch.  The only thing to break the idilic night was the farm dogs who kicked off as I ran passed, but other than that it was lovely.  slow time though, but hilly route.

  • SteadyCJSteadyCJ ✭✭✭

I am obeying orders Mrs Digger. Just about to write out the shopping list and do some washing up which is the exercise for this evening.

Nice run Pete, sometimes the best ones are the least expected.
