Birdy, I was thinking of doing the Dorset marathon, how much time to add on to your usual marathon time do you think, and is it self navigation and support or are their lovely marshals pointing directions and handing out cakes and abuse?
Hmm they've changed the course for Dorset so difficult to say. If they take us down towards Lulworth it could be really nasty, if they take us to Portland much less so. My times on these races are usually super slow. My road marathon PB is 4.24 but I've take well over 6 hours to get round some of these. It really does depend on the course and conditions - if its wet + muddy + hilly....well you'll be out there a while! Finishing times are on the site I think and should give you a clue.
That said these are brilliant friendly events very well orgnanised and friendly. Slow runners are allowed to start before the main field so you have a bit more time. The route is signposted but I generally take a map with me just in case. Marshalls are out on the course at CPs giving out sweets and water. Sadly it pales into the shadows of Beachy on the cake front. There is no cake. There are however usually hot drinks and food at the finish. They are very tough but if you treat it as more of an adventure than a race you'll love it!
Thanks for the advice, there's a map on the website so will take a look but no times from last year because of the new route. Right, I shall pack my own cake and get involved!
Yes I think that's the old map as well so beware..... I did Dorset CTS half three years ago....it was a complete mudfest and took me 3 1/2 hours to get round! Still went back for more though!
hi all i have a place for the beachy head marathon as my wife cant do it this year. if anyone is intrested message me and we can sort it out so the number can be transferred etc.
Birdypie - I entered Jog Shop Jog 20, but not sure if I can do it now as hubby did a holiday swap for Beachy.
We did a family walk from East Brighton park along under cliff path to Rottingdean and on to the Downs and then back via race course. We watch one race and then down hill back to the campsite, 10 miles.
Lingster, I have a friend who would like a place, but the facility to message you doesn't appear to be on your profile, so would you contact me. Thanks
I have a place available for this year's race (haven't been able to get over troublesome IT band). I'm not exactly sure how this sort of thing all works, but if you're after a place get in touch and I'm sure we can arrange it.
Did it last year for the first time - loved it, was looking forward to another bash.
Hi everyone - I am yet another person who cannot do the race. I managed to break my 5th metatarsal 4 months ago and its not healed as you can all imagine its all very arrrggghhhh!
Did a 20 miler today but made the most idiotic decision. I thought I'd go out and back over the seven sisters. What a plonker ! Now I know why some call them the bitches
Hi Old and Creaky, Can't find your email details in your profile to PM you, but I'd be interested in buying your place - I'm guessing Karen's has now gone.
Ive got a place in the Beachy head marathon - was going to be my first marathon, but im not going to be able to run it due to an ankle injury. Had it three times this year and my fitness just isnt ready.
I emailed the organisers and I cant defer my place to next year, however they did say I could sell it on. Just looking for the entry fee I paid - £32.
Drop me a message, failing that i'll keep checking this thread.
Not sure why I'm so pleased to have a place for this! As this part of Essex hasn't got many hills, I will be spending a lot of time running round Primrose and Hampstead Hills at work. Here'a hoping for good weather.
Sussex Runner - my hubby thought Jog Shop Jog was as tough as Beachy. I DNF Jog Shop Jog a few years ago. I got lost then gave up at the a offer of lift back to campsite. Hoping to do it this year thou.
SR - the Jog Shop Jog is a (insert expletive) but a nice friendly, low key event. The route somehow takes in all the steepest tracks in the area (including ones which other similar local events seem to avoid), but it's a great Beachy warm-up. It doesn't have the brutal finish of Beachy but the hills just keep coming.
Really looking forward to Beachy after missing last year, although v nervous as I'm only 3 weeks back after a torn calf and done nothing significant since June. Just hoping I can do 2 or 3 long runs, with some hills, between now and D-Day to get me into 'get me round' shape.

In the meantime I'll continue pool running! ps thanks Stig!!!
Hi Karen,
Emailed you, but in case you look here first - I'd be happy to buy your place, if it's still available.
Hope the foot isn't too painful.
Another place available.
My wife won the toss as we couldn't find child & dog care for the long day, and she thinks I have had more than my fair share of races this year!
If you need a place, PM me to arrange the transfer; I guess that I'll have to do the Greensands Marathon on the Sunday

Both spots for 'sale' are for WALKERS (I think this makes a difference).
Please drop me a reply to this thread (don't think I'm allowed to give phone or e-mail details) - I'll check it regularly.
Thanks
Alex
Very unusual to see all these spare places and not being grabbed immediately.
I have my place and even the hotel for the night before is sorted, just need a bit of training now...
