The world has become a strange place in recent times.

Pakistan,Australia,now Japan.

The uprising in the some of the Arab states...didn't Nostradamus predict something along these lines?

Anyone concerned that globally things seem to be going from bad to worse, are we at the dawn of the end?

  • No, not really.
  • That would be New Zealand not Australia.
  • Oz did have the floods in Jan, LN
  • Yes but Pakistan and Japan had earthquakes.
  • See what your saying, i thought he was just mentioning a few places that had had natural disasters.
  •  I'm assuming he's got NZ and Aus confused because many do.
  • Not too difficult...aren't Aussies are just wanna be kiwi's??

To be honest I forgot about NZ & was thinking about the flooding the Aussie's had suffered.
  • Nah - these things have always been going on - just that now there's 24 hour news coverage and everyone's a journalist.
  • ooh I wondered why I had that notebook and l'il stubby pencil in my pocket
  • Nope - the world ended in the year 2000 like all the nutters said it would - don't you remember?

I've seen "2012".  Must be true, Hollywood says so.

  • I predict that somewhere, something will happen tomorrow.
I predict that someone somewhere will be making predictions.

Let's check back tomorrow to see if I'm right.

I think I could be the new Nostradamus.

  • Didn't Nostradamus say it was all going to end in 1984?

    ...........or was that George Orwell?

  • Nostradamus must be the most misquoted bloke of all time.  BTW, he predicted that he would be image
  • Uprisings aren't necessary a bad thing.  Loss of life and injury are terrible, granted, but if oppressive regimes are ousted, then that's a good thing.

This list may be biased towards recent years due to the development and widespread deployment of seismometers. Large earthquakes were not less common in the past, but records detailed enough to make magnitude estimates were not available before 1900.

    List of earthquakes

But yes, the recent quake in Japan physically altered the tilt of the earth's axis, so we're clearly all doomed.  And I saw Jesus's face in my toast this morning.  The beardy bastard!

  • As long as I have a cup of tea, somewhere to run and the missues I'm fine... anything else is a bonus image

    Berkshire seems relatively earth-quake proof.

When Mount Tambora (Indonesia) went up in 1815, it caused (to all intents & purposes) a 'Nuclear Winter.

Crops failed, due to the lowering of the mean temperature, & lowered sunlight levels

There was a 'Potato Famine' in Ireland, 'Frost-Fairs' took place on the River Thames

And mean temperatures only dropped by a couple of degrees!!

Having said that, the cataclysmic event that really scares me is, if 'Yellowstone' goes 'bang', if it does, we're basically all knackered!!image

(the other one is a large Meteorite strike into the Atlantic Ocean, that'd make Japans Tsunami look like the ripples in a bath)

If you saw the 'Supervolcano' 'drama-mentory', you'll know what I'm on about... as they stated in the opening title-sequence

the cheetah has a good point.

Compare the coverage between the Japan events and the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004.  Now we have facebook and youtube to share the videos etc of the people on the ground. Only 6 years ago we didn't have the ability to share these types of videos.

The media has changed completely in the last 5 years
