May Weight Loss Team Challenge

  • Doing pretty well and still sticking with MFP, lots of running and gym sessions and it's continuing to drop but slowing I suspect. Not sure whether lasts night's supper of chips, cava and strawberries was entirely a balanced diet but seemed a good carb-load for my 11 miler including parkrun this morning,

I am definitely finding my running so much easier, my times are getting better and my sports masseuse nearly collapsed in shock on Thursday when I saw her for the first time in 6 weeks (ie since just after I started). Plus she said my limbs were in the best state ever and I've known her about 3 years now.image

Plus I was involved in a formal event yesterday, wore a lovely new dress and had lots of nice comments so was feeling pretty pleased.  Can't thank this thread enough for being the switch on to doing this, I cannot believe how long I had been saying I would and not.  Mr FL has joined me on MFP and has lost 8lbs as well so we are a happy bunch!

SOLB- sorry about the heart thing- any ideas what it might be or when you will get more news?

And NGUG- back to the norty step for you!!!image

Edited to addimageimage Whoop whoop, shiny new parkrun 5k PB; knocked 1min 20secs off so 26.05 YAY

  • Well done FL, sounds like you are losing inches as well as pounds image  And it's always nice to get compliments, if you get one I find it keeps you going.

Still no idea how much I weigh as the scales were still broken on Thursday.  Have decided that if they are still broken tomorrow morning I will use the rubbish old ones in the gym instead in future.  It may mean I stay the same, or even increase, but at least they are always there and even better, they are free!   I guess so long as I use the same scales every week it should make any difference if they weigh me a couple of pounds heavier.

My NSV this week was running almost 11 miles this morning, and at a pace I was pleased with.  Looks like I should hit somewhere between 2:30 - 2:45  for my half marathon next weekend, which I'll be pleased with for my second one ever!

TST well done on the run. I managed a 20 miler this week,  the only problem was I have been carb filling all the cals I burnt and some and can't go for a run this weekend as the OH has gone to Bala to do the Tri, so i'm home alone with the kids...eeekkk

  • Hey

FL yep found out it's a leaking valve ... essentially my blood is being naughty and going the wrong way up a one-way street causing my heart to have to pump even harder to get it back through.

I've tried shouting at my disobedient heart but apparently it's insolent as well as naughty image

Will have to get over my irrational hatred of swimming and hit the pool for a little while ... oh and give the naughty step a wide berth!

Congrats TST and RP, can you give me a piggyback next time??
  • FL - after slight telling off from PT have been v.good over the weekend.. no loss but no gain...  Hard session with him on Saturday lots of sprinting my legs still achy this morning.. bit of punishment I think ..

SOLB - (()) are they doing anything about it or is it one of those waiting and seeing things?  At least you know whats happening I guess..  I am not good at swimming either - only like swimming on holiday when its sunny and warm - is this the cross training you can do?

  • Afternoon all

Some ace losing going on! image

*applause* and *kicks up the arse* as appropriate to whoever needs them.

(((SOLB))) Sorry to hear about the heart thing. Must be so horribly frustrating. image

Woohoo - 3lb off for me at the weekend since the last time I weighed! image 'Twas the first week of actually logging calories properly in a food and exercise diary.  It's really made me think about all the crap I've been consuming that I really didn't need...image

I probably won't weigh in this Wednesday as it's not a convenient day for me to get to the gym (I deliberately don't have scales at home), so might post this weekend's weight as my 'official' 15th June weigh-in...

As for team versus individual competitions, I like the fact of it being a team thing - although I realise I haven't been posting quite as regularly as some folk on here..image

However, while I'd like to carry on, there are personal reasons why I probably won't continue with the team challenge after this month...image

  • image Lady P - that's the second big teaser hint you've dropped about something....time to tell! image
  • OMG weigh in tomorrow.. NSV for me this week is being strong and avoiding the two chocolate rolls, two large sets of shortbread, massive box of biscuits and carmel slices in the kitchen at work.. holidays about a month away so must focus on shifting the last few pounds now..image
  • Congrats NGUG - thankfully I hate the idea of food being contaminated by hanging about the germy office ... I think of the sweaty paw of the nastiest co-worker and all of us sudden the cakes etc don't look quite so yummy! In fact I still have an easter egg on my desk ... it was opened as a joke and now there's no way I'm eating it (saves me from the vending machine too - chocolate has lost it's shine - although sadly only when I'm at work)

LP it is indeed deeply frustrating image I'm getting cross with watching spiders take over my running shoes - though I suppose I should be grateful I was OK to run the marathon.

NGUG glad I'm not the only one that hates swimming, I used to be really good at it (was even on the uni team) but I now look like a drowning kitten.

I can do other cross-training but not without passing out image hate sitting about watching my fitness disappear, can't wait to run again. Not really sure what happens next, wait and see is probably the politest way to put it!
  • Well done to everyone who is losing image  The stupid scales at the leisure centre are still not fixed; I spoke to them about it this morning and they have called the supplier type people who need to come and put a new roll of paper in, but nearly two weeks later we are still waiting. image  I have got the number of the company though and am going to call them today and ask them what the hell they are playing at.  If there is no joy by Thursday morning when we go swimming then I will just start using the old, slightly rubbish, not so reliable but free ones in the gym as at least they work!  I think they way a couple of pounds over so may not see any loss but I will just use them from then on so will see a loss hopefully.

My NSV this week has been doing all my training, and stepping it up a notch image  Did an 11 mile run Saturday, 1.2 mile swim and 20 mile cycle on Sunday and then nearly killed myself going to running club last night and doing 6 miles with them!!  First time I've run more than once a week for a while so it was gonna hurt, but was worth it, especially as one of the coaches has promised £15 sponsorship for me for the Vitruvian image

  • Who are you fundraising for TST?
  • Am splitting it 50/50 between Macmillan Cancer Research and Help for Heroes.  Mr TST's Dad passed away from cancer in September 2009 and the Macmillan were brilliant with help and support.  His Dad was also a medic in the army for a while at the end of WWII and a lot of our friends are either serving or ex-forces so we thought it would be nice to split it between the two charities.  image  If anyone is interested you can follow my progress on my blog here and there is also a link to my sponsorship page if anyone has £1 to spare to sponsor me.  Keeps me going some days as I don't want to let down the people who have put their money where my mouth is!
  • I've just sponsored you, sorry it's not much I'm a bit broke at the moment.
I know what you mean about the sponsorship keeping you moving.
I actually mean it when I say my sponsors have changed my life ... it means so much more than you think when you set out doesn't it?
Keep going, it really will all be worth it.
  • Oh bless you SOLB, thank you so very, very much
    http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/members/images/546545/Gallery/Big_hug.gif

Every penny makes a difference, both to the charities and with helping keep me motivated and I really appreciate it.  I have a lot of work to do, but I won't let you down, and feel free to badger me on the blog if you think I'm slacking!!  Am trying to post a couple of times a week, although sometimes I find it hard to fit it in!
  • sorry Folks, have been busy busy busy all week last week

I will pop back this evening and sort of May's results

Those who have not posted a final weight loss for May will be dropped from the stats

The Final May weight become the new June starting weight.

We can continue with 15th/30th monthly or we can go fortnightly.  Happy to do whatever you want?

  • TST keep up the good work

    Schmunkee sounds good to me

NSV ordering choccies for my dad from Thorntons (buy 1 get 1 free offer!!!) and resisting the temptation of sending myself the second box...I sent them to the MIL insteadimage

  • I know you'll earn every penny TST - it takes guts to publicly commit yourself to a challenge. I would never have carried on through all the injuries and illness if I hadn't had so much support (and the threat of embarrassment) if I pulled out.

I know that I'd have quit when the heart problems started (although I thought they were asthma at the time) if I wasn't carrying so many peoples kindness and expectations on my shoulders. In a weird way between that and the realisation that people cared I actually got more from the experience than the charity ... we're holding a two day event at work on Thursday and Friday which will be my last effort (PHEW) unfortunately I've been so busy falling apart I've let the organization fall over ... gonna paint a big grin on my face and hope no one notices the sweating (and swearing!)

RP now that is VERY impressive indeed. I don't know how you did it but I salute you!

Right team ... mug of hot chocolate down ... I commit to losing at least 1 1/2 lbs a week this month - it's time to get serious! (That way I'll get myself to the pool even if I have to get the scales to chase me all the way there)

EDIT to make up for my rudeness - thank you once again to our hardworking fairy. I'm happy to go along with whatever you decide image
  • Apologies in advance to team kebab

not looking forward to weigh in tomorrow.

Need some inspiration for low cal non alcoholic drinks.

Thanks fairy for keeping this going.   Happy with what ever format decided.

  • FE- if you like the taste of beer then the Becks non-alcoholic is nice, as is the Erdinger low-alcohol or the Bavaria Wit (last two both available at Tescos, on a buy two get one free last time I was in).  Erdinger is about 125KCal for a 500ml bottle.  Other than that I like tonic water with Angostura bitters added, or the flavoured tonic waters (all available in low-cal versions).  My local health food shop does a wicked ginger squash.  The supermarket own brand flavoured waters are OK in moderation.
  • Current listing.  I thought I'd lost loads but realised I'd typed in target weight in stones into the calculator rather than actual, hey ho...

You know SOLB that was really helpful I kept on thinking of people either pawing the biscuits and/or them licking themimage which was a bit weird but hey it worked not one has passed my lipsimage

I think I dont like swimming probably because I am not very good at it.  My mum took the attitude of survival swimming i.e. once you can survive no need for any more lessons.  Wish I had learnt to do some stroke other than breast stroke is v.limiting and has stopped me from going for tris.  Should try and find some adult classes somewhere..

Hope things sort themselves out with your leaking valve sounds v.frustratingimage

Smunkee - will be posting my weight after my weigh in on Saturday with my PT to keep the scales consistent

  •  Well done foxy lady.

Sorry no loss but thankfully haven't gained

Thanks FF ginger squash sounds fab. Also will try tonic water with angostora bitters

  • Hurrah!  The scales are finally fixed so I could weight today! image  Not really sure if I'm pleased or not with the result though image  Lost 1lb, which is good, but I think I was expecting a little more, especially as I've really increased my training since we stopped drinking.  Really in my heart I know that is unrealistic as I am still struggling to stop replacing booze with junk food, and so is Mr TST which doesn't help matters.  Still, a loss is a loss and I creep ever nearer the magic 11st mark and I know once I get under that it will make a massive difference psycologically.
