Mud was great totally wiped out at least 3 times and sunk way above my ankles many times. Oh how I laughed.
Ached today like i'd been beaten up but then what did i expect.
Big well done and thankyou to all at MCN, great route, well marked and you stopped the rain for the day. Not a drop .
Yes sorry Lirish failed to meet again. Perhaps I'll see you at the winter tanners. Glad it wasn't just me who was slower than last year. I was about an hour and a half slower only just beat the darkness!
Lirish was you with a small group just after CP7 in the dark, I was putting out glow sticks and we had a quick chat about the map and what to expect on the course?
Dill, don't worry about the time, the start was tougher this year with two big climbs (and a descent in between), after CP5 last year we took you back to the canal via the Taff Trail this year you had another climb and open hill section and instead of lots of canal, minor roads, footpaths (including the stream crossing) and then that final little climb before last field section.
So all things being even this was a tougher course, throw in the mud and it was much tougher this year.
Frenchy I was the Irish guy running with the welsh girl in the red gilet, you'd just been dropped off by the blonde lady in the camper van?
As for the route it was quite a bit tougher than last year even without the mud to contend with. I'm going to have to come back next year and hope for some decent weather
hhhmm, the blonde girl must have been Sue, so it was probably Matt you met. So next event come and find me and I will buy you a beer at some point
I think with this event the key will be to expect the worst possible conditions (which this year may have been, other than sideways rain) and anything better is a bonus
Wanted to let you know that we have recently launched The Welsh Adventure Racing Series, expect the same great terrain and challenging courses, with the addition of bikes & boats, option to enter navigational class or non-navigation, first round in June, hope to see some of you there...
The 40 in December was fun too, it was wet! I fell over quite a few times and was caked in mud. Just sorry I missed round 3 would have been nice to do the series.
*Dill* you get around. All these Grand Slams. Are you doing all the RunFurther ones as well? And the EnduranceLife ones??
I've had a terrible shock tonight. Just been looking up my info on this Brecon 40 event that I entered long ago. Race blurb talks about an ascent of Cribyn but the route on the map I printed out goes nowhere near Cribyn. I've been looking at the wrong map all this time - there's a different route for the summer!!
And what a route ... . Cruel and unreasonable punishment, I call it.
No T no more slams this year. I'm just making hay while the sun shines. Apart from a few niggles i am pretty fit at the moment so just making the most of it.
Do you know the route well? I hope it's hard as nails. Going through the map there is some gnarley ascents. Looks great. Do love a challenge
I know various sections of it - some very tough stuff. Going up and down just about every route on Pen y fan! The day trippers will wonder what on earth we're up to. That loop down to the Storey Arms and straight back up is one of the crueller sections. But all quite gnarly I should think.
I guess at some point I should break the habit or my running career so far and actually look where I'm going for one of these races but I just assumed the race was on the same course as the winter 40?
The climb back up towards Pen Y Fan after Storey Arms is not too bad, it kicks up in places but the trail is good and the gradient easy off at the right points to provide the opportuntity to recover. Up to Cribyn is a real test at the mileage you hit it, the crux of the route for sure.
The long drag along the ridge before you turn down towards Storey Arms is also testing, although the views are some of the best weather permitting.
On this note we did have a couple of drop outs late on last year due to the weather closing in and they not having enough kit to keep dry and warm. It may be May but keep the kit list approprite for mountain conditions and check the weather forecast which was spot on last year.
Hi Dill, yep no worries, I may be joining u in my new toy if the accommodation sells out (it will).
On that note we are down to the last few entries so if your still not sure don't hang around too long, take a look at our facebook page for some photos and blogs from last year to give you an idea of what to expect.
Lastly if you don't mind either drop me a PM or via this thread let me know your real names, would love to put faces to names at registration and maybe see you in the pub for a beer afterwards.

Hi Frenchy
Has the entry list for the UB40 been updated lately? I entered about a month ago and my name isn't on the list?
Yay I'm now officially in! #122
Can't wait for this, the Brecons have got to be one of my fave places to run in the Uk.
Round 1 in the Black Mountains back in October was actually my single fave race ever. I have high expectations of this one.
Are you running this round Li?

Me too. Better not push too hard as SDW will be so close.

Hello All,
Glad your looking forward to it

See you soon
Got through London without major issues so I can get my head right for this one.
Will save tarmac bashing for one race a year me thinks, the cambers play havoc with my hips.
Frenchy. I'm bringing my camper down for this one. Are we ok to pitch up in the car park up the road from the Talybont centre?

See you in a couple of weeks...
*Dill* looks like he would be quite recognisable. I am too, for that matter. Look out for the 8" teeth and two fingers on each hand.
Ah but i've had my beard trimmed since that photo.
