  • Very tempting
  • Very tempting..... entries start on June 15th....it's going to sell out in seconds.
  • I soooooooo much want to do this race
  • Lots of comments about the quality of the Hudson for the swim. The temp in NY during August for the bike and run.
  • You think an IM in NYC is hard?

Wait till you see me shop.image

  • This will be a perfect prelude to a Stateside Stag do in next August next year, which I am responsible for organising.  Oh and I might even be good enough to buy the groom entry as a wedding present....

  • And only $1000 to enter.....

    wow!!!!!

Plus flights, accommodation, (litle chance of camping!)

Would love to but think I'll leave that one to those with deeper pockets. Besides, I'm saving up for Kona! image

  • "Oh and I might even be good enough to buy the groom entry as a wedding present...."

I'd check with his future missus first if she'd be happy with that!! make a change from a toaster though..... image

this will sell out in minutes I reckon

  • $161,000 average salary....I am in the wrong job!!
  • "And only $1000 to enter....."

following on from that - "The cost may not deter competitors. About 2,000 of the approximate 3,000 competitors in the 2010 NYC Triathlon worked in the financial services industry, race officials said, and Ironman competitors have an average annual income of $161,000, according to World Triathlon."

    $161K eh?

    I'd better take a paycut then....image
  • Isn't that about £100K?

I'm not getting out of bed for that.image

I thought that's what it took to get you in  ........................
  • doubt i'll be doing this next year though!!!
  • "$1,000 entry" ... hmm ... I overlooked that part.  Then again, the cheeky b@stard did enter me into the Berlin Marathon last year without any prior warning.  This could be very satisfying payback.

    Ha ha ha....

Run and hide dave...run and hide.

  • Teehee.. She can't runvery far, and anyway She would be distracted by being this close to Cheshire Oaks
  • I expect to be rejected for this if entry to the NYC mara is owt to go by - $1000 , ti s once in a llifetime i suppose - but the costs will certainly add up - though surprisingly enough - the missus said whilst  your on the bike i'll be in the city spending

now that to me says - book it!!

i bet swiss bobby will get to be tourguide on this too - raggy bugger

  • Sorry Sore Shins I will not be tour guiding the NYC IM...

Quite how they get to call it that i dont know... the course is nearly all in NJ. only the last few miles of the marathon is in NYC running across the George Washington Bridge...

The Race in Quebec looks a lot more attractive to me. Ironman Mont Tremblant

  • Yes the Canadian race looks far nicer to me.

I'm not sure I fancy the Hudson river swim. Isn't it full of mafia victims ?
  • Anyone else for Canada?

  • http://www.ironmanuschampionship.com/£550 in todays money.  Registration opens in four hours and counting and, if what we are lead to believe is true, will probably close minutes thereafter.Anyone else in?

  • FFS, SOLD OUT in 20 mins
  • inevitable
  • Think this event is like Marmite judging by some of the comments on the IM sites.

This hike in price has caused quite a stir of complaints and comments
  • "This hike in price has caused quite a stir of complaints and comments"

hasn't stopped it selling out though has it??

and afaik, the price hike is to cover the costs of road closures, policing, safety etc in NYC which ain't going to come cheap - that cost is passed on in the entry fee.

people will bleat and complain but the only winner is WTC who own the brand.
  • I think the extra cost is reasonable, as FB says its not going to be cheap running an event in NYC.
  • The winner is the private equity co. that own WTC.

That said I think WTC have done more than anyone to raise the profile of triathlon, the events arent cheap but given many sell out in minutes theyre cardly flogging the cash cow to death, many events could probably double in price and still sell out.  In most cases you get what you pay for, with the exception of IMShit your getting a top not professional race with all the razamataz, closed roads etc etc.
