Just entered this as my second half marathon, my first was the excellent Inskip half that i did last weekend in the wind - i now have a time to beat and more worryingly the running bug!!

Also booked the Hilton Hotel the night before at a really good rate so it will be a simple case of rolling out of bed and making my way to the start line!!

Hi Darren if you have the bug enter the Coniston 14 one of the best races going and you will fall in love with the lake district and you will want to go back year after year to beat your time on a tough course.

If and it's a big IF it's a wind free day the course is a potental PB. I train on that prom between Fleetwood and Blackpool ( 3 times this week ) It is relativity flat some slight lumps from Bispham heading back to Blackpool. Completely traffic free which is an under rated bonus ( frequently increasingly terrified by Sunday drivers who don't give a crap ) There are some modern council toilets on the route at Redbank Rd which is less than a mile south of the Norbreck Castle Hotel. This year as before there will be Runners World pacers which IF wind free can give you a good moving target to help get that magic feel good time.

I think of running Fylde races as a bit like links golf. If there is no wind then the courses have no protection and you have every chance of a PB. If the wind blows then you are going to have to get your head down and graft. If it really blows then you are in for a challenge.

Whatever the weather they are always good events.

am a running novice , only ran a 15km at tatton in November, but am going for it. Hoping to hit 10 minute miles throughout, 2hrs 10 mins will do for me. Any advice for a novice?

If you can afford it Carl a Garmin watch is a good investment. It's a big help in helping you regulate your speed. The tendency for a lot of runners is setting off too fast then paying for it later espically in the longer distances such as a half marathon. The watch constantly updates your pace. You don't have to put in big training miles for halves but it does help trying to get at least one 10+ mile training run a week. If there is a local club check it out don't be intimidated thinking its full of Billy Whizz's it won't be. It's much easier training in a group than on your on. Best of luck Carl I will watch out for your result at Blackpool whatever happens make it fun

thanks George, I am a stubborn so and so, am doing all my training solo even for my triathlon in May, but hit a ten miler every weekend regularly hitting 10 minute miles so my head and legs know what pace to hit. Made the fatal mistake in my first ever 5km run of setting off like a lunatic!!! lesson learned the hard way but over a small distance.

Best of luck Carl , think you will find that in a longer distance race you hopefully will have some company. The bigger the race more people to run with.

This might be a silly question but it is my first half marathon. Will the pacemakers stay for the whole race or drop out at some point? Thanks in advance for any help.

The races I have been in the past the pacemakers stay till the end. I don't think they're like the competitive pacemakers just to get you through on a time.
