I paid a little extra on this years house insurance to have 'away from home' cover. Due a son who leaves things behind quite often. Luckily for him we did. He borrowed my husbands new bike (Without asking) and it was stolen. I had a couple of days messing around but they paid the £800 directly into my account. Phew...
My previous insurer were great when I was burgled. Paid out no problem. I had to change insurer though as when I rented my house out and wanted to switch to landlord insurance, they wouldn't let me unless the house I was moving to was also insured by them which it wasn't, as it wasn't my house and the insurance was nothing to do with me. So I changed insurers and tried to claim for a leaking roof but they said it was general maintenance and wouldn't pay out.

If I didn't have insurance for 10 years I'd save more like £2,000. Given that a single claim could far exceed that, I'm happy paying my premiums.
