HR - good on you for sorting it out mate, must be a bit of a shambles with 3 different distances in one day.

Met up with SD and RR out on the first lap - great to meet you guys, sorry I missed the initial meeting point. Tagged along for a while, found myself running a bit faster than I had intended and on the second lap in particular I really got carried away.

Ended up around 2:14 - about a minute per mile faster than I had intended to run. So much for an easy day.

RR - realised I can't do the Brighton 10k, I'm in France. Good luck for NYM.

Good run, 59:51 so beat target by 9 seconds. Could have done better in first 3 miles but can't really grumble with 7:18 miling.
However, will not be running Kingston again. I was very annoyed by a rude & aggressive official before the start. Having a perectly reasonable question cut short by the sneering retort "Can you not read" left me both surprised and angry. I could put up with woefully inadequate toilet facilities and bags being left unprotected from the rain while their owners were running but I will not take that from anyone. I've have never experienced such conduct from an official in the past and have no intention of starting now. I've run my last Kingston festival, and it's good riddance to it. It's not as if I need it, there are plenty of other good races around.

Well done everyone who took part in the event. Well done John & HR for the organisation. Sorry you didn't enjoy it Brunswick, we could have done with more toilets for sure.

    Nice to meet other Forumites.

I ran 1 hour on the button (target time) according to my watch. so pleased with that. got a good tow over the last 3 miles from 3 very nice ladies. I don't who they were but I enjoyed the chase. Come to think of it I probably chased them to their PB's trying to get away from me.

Looking forward to Brighton. See you there.

I can't say I didn't enjoy it entirely. I enjoyed the run after my clash with the obnoxious b***ch before the start and got exactly what I was looking for - a strong run in my last race before Frankfurt. In that respect it was a worthwhile day and I don't regret running it at all. I certainly won't go back, but I won't allow one person to take the gloss off what was a good personal performance.

I think what really frustrates officials is when all the information is there in the race info and people clearly have not bothered to read it. (thats why we always have problem with late entries who don't know what going on, where the run goes etc.)
Most people see the London marathon and think every race is as well organised. Most are done on good will, voluneeters, very little money and support, and a lot of arm twisting.
Toilets, always a tough call. I dont ever think there can ever be enough. was a £1000 well spent? even if I had doubled the number (£2000) there would have been queues.
I think most people got sorted in the end. (loos had to be gone by 10.30am Town centre issues). Those that followed the race info and parked where they were advised had easy access to nice loos. (in eden walk).
    Ta John

    Brunswick,
I know John Lunt of Human Race has been reading these posts, and will be upset by your comments.
I've done over 12 Human Race Events and have always been pleased with the service and events.
I've never read any negative views before on this site or the triathlon press/bbs.
I think I'm correct to say that many of the helpers are volunteers and were up at 4am on the Sunday morning.

I hope that last Human Race message wasn't making the implication that I "didn't bother to read the information" for I most certainly DID. What was more difficult however was a retain a photographic image of the map in my memory. Not being a local how the hell am I supposed to know where everything is without having access to the map. Ten minutes before the start am I supposed to still have the race pack in hand?
I notice that you didn't comment on whether you consider officials being abusive to runners acceptable behaviour.
  • Options
Strange I posted my message before Human Race posted their message
    But they beat me!
  • Options
Thats the power of the web. Free and frank exchange of views. I used to get upset but have now accepted that I will never get it 100%right. (I only believe the London marathon can do that..!).
I'm sure a few people didn't like the course, the early start, the entry fee, the race mug.etc etc. All the crew and volunteers are runners and so do it to support events. (same as most events)
At the end of the day it is a free market and a free choice, If you didn't get value for money or a good experience then you won't be back.Hopefully most enjoyed Kingston and will be back in March for more pain.
  • Options
Don't think I'm criticising the event as a whole. The course was good, the early start not idea but not really a problem, the entry fee was not excessive compared to other events, and and despite criticism elsewhere I liked the mug as a momento of the race. My only complaint was one single unacceptable incident which the organisers appear to condone through refusing to say otherwise.
Agree that no event get everything 100% right - and that includes the London Marathon. The "take it or leave it" attitude suits me fine. That's exactly what I'll do.

    Well I enjoyed it anyway!

I forgot to say, the target times are now in brackets and those without actuals are at the bottom. I have used your timings not from Human Race. Please post your actuals if you haven't already and I'll add them.

    Cheers

    Caz

    Thanks Caz,
My watch showed 1hr10sec. Out of interest do you start timing when you cross the start line or when the gun goes off?
  • Options
TB I do it when I cross the line, after all that's the time for the distance. Can you imagine them adding on seconds/minutes for Paula and Sonia just because they were at the back!

    Me neither :)
  • Options
TB, you did mean 1 hour 10 minutes?

RichardR ... great effort. Pretty impressive to run a PB in that sort of event. Presume you realise you now get automatic entry to London if you want ... and "elite" marathosn like Boston that demand a fairly aggressive qualifying time?
  • Options
Typical isn't it - been in this event five times now, aned never had a picture in the local paper - received the Surrey Comet today, and there's a newbie in a forum vest on the front page of the Running Festival's supplement.
  • Options
I saw that aswell , step forward Caz

Was it me? Really? No, you're teasing me.

    'fraid it was...grr

    Oh realy?!

Oh where can I get a copy??

you should have received one at you home address this a.m., courtsesy of the Comet, one of the race sponsers.

..and very nice you look too!

Oh right, I shall be ripping open my post tonight!

Yeah, I bet, hot, sweaty, and about to launch into an asthma attack probably (forgot my salbutamol!).

I still think you boys are winding me up though.
