Nice evening though I do apologise for my inability to speak properly in the taxi! Old Speck started to kick in around then but feeling OK now!

Next one camping in Oxleas Wood then?
  • Don't worry Gavo, same thing happened to me, only I was still in the pub, as I'm sure you noticed!
  • I have to take my hat off to a man drinking Speckled Hen on a school night. Now we will have the diffficult task of trying to remember which real name equates to which nom de plume.

    Thanks Soo.

I'm OK on that - I'm just useless at matching real names with forum names.
  • Phew. Relieved to hear that everyone had a good time. (Well, Multi hasn't confirmed that - but it had to have been better than cleaning his flat...which was apparently his other option.) It makes those first few nervous minutes, clutching my Runner's World and fending off Jack, all worthwhile. I'll give some thought to the venue and timing of the next one....

I am off to Oxleas Wood tomorrow - really looking forward to it actually - which is a good thing as the idea of 18 miles is not in itself entirely inviting.

Snail - definitely on for a run next week. I'll email you on the weekend. (If my PC doesn't entirely explode due to that stupid worm....)

    Cheers, Soo.

  • A good evening was had by myself also, and good to have met you all. Thanks for organising it SBD.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

    Now where's that duster ??
  • Yes, nice one Soo.
I'm sure I saw Jack running like a man possessed around Greenwich Park this afternoon, shouting 'I must hug the fans, everyone hug the Fans!'

Are you going to set up another one Soo?
  • I'll definitely organise another one Dom. Maybe early October? (After Windsor and before Amsterdam/Dublin...) Venue - well, Snoop is pushing the Yacht pretty hard - I'll put it on the short list and check it out...

Made it to Oxleas Wood yesterday morning! Definitely worth discovering - so thanks to all of you for helping me find it. (Although no one mentioned the freaking big hill just before you get to the gates...) I finished my 18 miles yesterday and I'm still feeling positively smug...

Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend.
    Cheers, Soo.
  • early October sounds good to me...

Soo, just returned from the weekend and my email inbox was full of crap again - if you tried emailing me and it was returned, pls try again, I've binned the porn!

  • Another success from our sess at the Trafalgar (oops I mean inaugural meeting) - Snail and I met up for a run this morning. She has discovered that 6am really isn't THAT early and can be kind of refreshing... and I benefited from some company to help make the miles fly by.

Preliminary details of the 2nd Greenwich Park Runners Meeting (or wannabe runners, or ....)
Venue TBD - Date October 9th. (hope that date works for most of you)
Put it in your diaries now!! If you didn't come to the first one because you were too shy - do join us! We had a good time at the first one and everyone was remarkably normal....

    Cheers, Soo.

  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
Everyone was normal? Aren't you forgetting someone?
  • ummmm, it WAS that early, Soo! Doesn't mean it wasn't refreshing though. But I did a hard gym session at 11 (forgot it was max weights this week, or I'd never have agreed to run first) and I could do with an afternoon nap now... zzzzzzzzzzz...

Gavo, who wasn't normal?! Clearly, Jack wasn't normal or he wouldn't have stayed so long... but then, surely it's not normal to try to flash at everyone who passes? Or to do 150 marathons?! Umm, was ANYONE normal????

  • Gavo, are we to assume that you were the only normal one there,me thinks NOT.
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
Jack was the one I was thinking of but am not entirely sure that he's not lurking on here from his padded cell.

Don't think I've ever been described as normal.
  • How did the sicial go on Friday night?
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
Well attended & people were relatively sensibly behaved from what I could see. I was late though, so you'll not get any gossip from me.

Multi (Joe) turned up though, all leathered up with his helmet out for all to see
  • Everytime, the man has issues!
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
He'll be flashing in his tri suit next year as well.
  • And with those eloquent thoughts from Multi - I'll just put in a reminder of our next meeting:

Thursday October 9th - Venue tbd (although the Yacht is growing more likely as I suspect I won't be bothered to think of anywhere else!!!)(Will need to figure out where it is before then...)

Hope you're all running well - amazes me that I have yet to see any of you (other than Kirstie) actually in the park!!

    Cheers, Soo.
  • yacht is 20 yards from the Trafalgar, down tha alley
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
    Boinged for The Count
  • Soo - don't think any of them do run in the park. I think they're all imposters...

could always meet at Vanbrugh Tavern - decent food there too and close to the mythical park that nobody runs in! However, Yacht's good for me.
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
Yeah, you won't see me there at 6am I'll give you that but I'll be somewhere around Maze Hill on Sunday.
  • Hello all GP runners! Thank to Gavo for the boing....I got to 124 before finally giving up..I didn't know it was now back on the 1st page! Been reading the first few pages and amazed that everyone recognises the chinese (I think) couple. this is the same guy who runs in trousers and brown shoes!!!! Bit about me - Live in Blackheath village and run round the heath / GP a few times a week. Just got the girlfriend into running and she just completed the Nike 10K. Looking for a bunch of people to run / socialise with. I'm also up for some early morning runs which will mean i can still run PM with the girlfriend.
So what have I missed on the forum?
  • GavoGavo ✭✭✭
You haven't missed too much. As you can see, a few of us are planning on meeting up on 9/10 on the river so you can meet us then. Watch out for Multi flashing though.

Personally I have no routine to my training so am not the best running partner to rely on. I'm also crap at remembering to bring maps for Soo.
  • Must look out Oxleas Wood...sounds like a great place to. I was doing long runs to either Tower Bridge or Westminster and back. Run down the North Bank (via the foot tunnel) and back along the South Bank / Cycle path 4. Running home from work tonight from Victoria so I'll be passing briefly through the park tonight about 7pm. Lets hope the rain stays off!
  • Soo.B.Doo - I was told you were at the last Firestation social but clearly missed you. I would love to do the Greenwich social but unfortunately cannot make the 9/10 - am flying to Chicago for the Marathon there. Will try and make the next one though as I am not too far away.
  • Hey TC, Ashley Smith runs back from London to S E London - next run Friday at 6.15 - see URWFRC City and S E London thread on Beginners Forum (message 622)
