JB1978 I had pins and needles in hands in last half 100m or so of marathon, strange sensation! Don't know what causes it....I put it down to freezing hands in wet gloves.....but only came on when end was in sight! Feel ok now.
Had a massage this morning, so lovely. Applied for London, but if I don't get in need to find another marathon, preferably in the North. Any suggestions? Family and friends can't believe I want to run another!
I'm going for a GFA place in London - but if I didn't have that next spring I was going to either do Brighton, Barcelona, Paris, Windermere, or maybe even poor old Greater Manchester.
If want do one in north which is very popular, very scenic and fairly tough, go for Windermere I reckon.
Hi, I'd really recommend listening to that podcast that 15West linked to a few posts back. An excellent summary of the race, really chimed with my experience (although I was quite a way further back). Very funny too.
I know! Sitting in the warmth, sipping chardonnay and listening to a string quartet while Longford Park was turning into a refugee camp around them...was that for real? If so I'm surprised there wasn't a riot. Who were these VIPs anyway?
A club mate of mine wrote this fab race report that gives an idea of what it was like for the faster people up at the 3 hourish end: http://wiganharriersendurance.wordpress.com/
Good read that. Takes me back to struggling with the banana and drinks outside the baggage tent and someone helping me out. For a while I was carrying a banana, Gatorade and water and had to ditch the water - couldn't hold all three and keep that foil blanket on.
I dropped my banana in the wormy mud and space blankets had run out, still annoying me as they knew how many runners there were and I had a long, cold walk back to the car. Also the gels had run out in all but the first station. Will def have to take my own supplies for next marathon. Can anyone recommend a running belt?
15 west is sponsored by SIS and recommended their gel belt, I have to agree it worked just fine for me in manchester as I got one just in time, about £8 ish on amazon.
I ate the equvalent of 9 gels getting around the marathon, no wonder I didn't hit the wall !
Quays, I was the same, I chomped my way through more gels than you can shake a stick at and felt great. I only managed to get one gel from a 'feed station' though, which was a disappointment. Might try a gel belt, as my pockets were bursting at the seams. Do the SIS belts hold any brand of gel?
Just catching up on a few days of posts, just seen Leees video, brilliant stuff well done! And well done Green Pete and also Lily - I remember pointing you in the direction of this thread when you 1st joined the RW forum and posted a message, really pleased that you've found it so useful and are looking at other marathons! Also need a gel belt.
Another 5 mile jog tonight. Looks like the marathon may have clamed another "victim" my Garmin 305 keeps turning itself off unexpectedly, I guess "waterproof to 1 metre" didn't cut it in Sundays conditions?
Looking back it was a brilliant day and can't wait for next one ~ Can any of fellow marathoners let me know if there is anything to choose between Liverpool and Chester
Ran Liverpool and loved it and plan on doing so again this year. Both events seem to have a lot of praise and loyalty. It's a shame they're both so close together.
I ran Liverpool last year and it was really good. They messed up the start, but that will be sorted out this year I'm sure. Support was ace. Doing Chester this year for a bit of variety and it also gets good reviews.
The support and finish for Chester last year were the best I've ever seen, so I'm in for Chester straight away, Liverpool gets a good report and has a two week gap this time so might do both
GozOC: Sympathies re the 305 - try putting it in an airing cupboard for a few days? Makes me very glad I went for the 310xt - I did think about that on Sunday, the fact that I didn't need to worry about how wet it got.

Hey - you lot should listen to marathon talk's latest podcast - quite a bit about Manchester marathon on it.
It's here:Marathon Talk Ep 121
They talk about the baggage situation from about 15 minutes, and Tony's Trials at 39 minutes is a really good report about Manchester. Worth a listen.

Also a good choice of autumn marathon's in the north west - Preston, Chester and Liverpool.
Or Snowdonia - that is a toughy but is really rated.

I'm still buzzing from Manchester, only took up running a year ago and this was my second ever marathon...My first 4 weeks ago. Can't wait to do more.

I'm iffy about doing a 10k 2 weeks after a marathon!
I've got another Marathon on Sunday, my problem is when I stop or lower the mileage I tend to get injured and take a while to get going again
Do you run every marathon hard or prioritze?
