The Vit Relay Teams 2012

Ok, so over the weekend we came up with a bit of an idea. What about having relay teams of peole who did not commitment to what event they wanted to do......!!!!

In simple terms you get 3 follow pirates/forum members to agree to doing The Vit in 2012 as a relay team, though you have no idea as to what part of the relay you have signed up to do. You must then post on this thread the members within you team. Ok that all seems simple enough; then to make it interesting;

On the day of the race, in fact within 20minutes before the team relays start each member must  have a letter A, B or C. Then a draw will then take place (blind drawing of straws) as to whatevent A, B or C will do. This means each team member will only have 20 minutes notice as to what event they will be doing on the day. If you hate swimming, tough, if you hate running, tough, get the message. You are stuck with what you are give.

Each team must arrange there own entry, plus each team must make sure (if things follow this years event) they will all be outside the harbour cafe at 6am Saturday morning to hear the draw!

To get things going as a team;

Team 1
GOM
Bassy
Symes

And if none of that makes sense, that means this 18 year old is better then I thought!

  • Hmmmm...does Mrs Gom know you're with an 18 year old?

    Whilst it sounds amusing, there is a lot of excess packing involved in not knowing which event you're going to do! The faff:enjoyment ratio is all wrong....image

  • Well she is asleep up stars well away from the 18 year old image

    Yes there is the ony thing about bringing bikes,wetsuits when all you might need is a pair of trainers! Though does that not make for the interesting part. There you are standing outside a cafe at 6am on a September morn having no idea having no idea about what event you are about to do is.....

  • I love that Ditchy immediately thought about the packing not the blimming training! image image

    it's certainly an interesting idea.

  • Love the idea, but what would happen re bikes?  All three would have to be in transition before the start of the race brief?

  • No they wouldn't, you would just have to have your bike outside the cafe. As soon as the draw is done you would then go and rack your bike.

    They normally allow a bit of slack on the racking. The main thing would be to make sure the bike is racked before the first swimmers start to come out of the water.
  • Correct. Anyway don't worry about finer details at the moment. Just get a team together, and be ready to enter the event when it opens!
  • Team 2

    SA
    Mrs SA
    TBA (any takers)

  • Surely to maximise the fun each team should have to turn up to the race with only one bike, one wetsuit and one pair of running shoes image
  • That was talked about, though it would be funny we thought it might be a step too far. image
  • Good idea, ill have a think about this?

    There are also the OSB relays each September at Holme Pierpont, its a sprint but I think in teams of 3 (4?) each do the swim in turn, then the bike, then the run.

    I'll start a thread for this in a few weeks, it sounds like a right laugh.
  • Is that not the club relays Barlos?, you know, the one we keep talking about and never getting round to doing !!
  • Thats the one Meldy, ive also confirmed with OSB that you dont have to be an affiliated club to enter.  Once next years event is announced you or I should start a thread.
  • Its usually the BH weekend I think ?

    And yes, we should make it happen next year and give even more money to OSB   image
  • It was, indeed, BH weekend this year.

    Teams of four, Barley.

    I quite like the idea of the Vit thing.  I shall think about it too.

    its teams of 4. On Sat this year it was mixed teams a.m and ladies only teams p.m and on the Sunday it was mens only teams. Utter chaos but fab fun. If you want to camp though, you need to book early as the camp site was packed this year. It is good for spectating too.
