If anyone wants to do the beginners guide to the surrey hills route again as a warm up to Smifficide, happy to accommodate. The main difference is the beginners guide is nearly flat.
I would be interested in this subject to dates and timings etc bearing in mind I have a 90 min journey to get there
Especially as I have heard rumours that the King Of Faffers is desperate to meet the Fairy One
Just an idea (and I have no idea of logisitics etc) but it is poss that we have a great big meet in Surrey and have a beginner ride and an advanced ride and then meet up again afterwards?
Feel free to say it's a stoopid idea if it's not workable as I may well be talking out of my arse
Dustboy what have you done with your bike this time? We need some dates in here.....I need to start planting seeds that I am going out with some nutters....these things need work you know!
Sats 1st & 8th October are possibles for me at the moment. Bike in for service at mo. Schmunks, you wanna pick a time? Though 10-10.30 is quite nice.
Bear in mind it's only a warmup for a Smiffy ride though, as I appear to have hijacked the Great Ones thread (tugs forelock respectfully).
Relentless taking the piss may lead me to adjust the route slightly...
There was also talk of an MTB/XC brick a while back based from Newlands. and the Great One even hinted at an appearance. Well, I found something called the North Downs way today and knocked an hour out on that which was a lot of fun. I will be doing the same again soon but adding in a gentle ;O) 10 mile XC run after. Usual beginner rules apply ie no leaving behind stranded etc. Any lambs for slaughter?
You always pick bliddy awkward times!!! My birthday bash on the 7th so hangover booked for the 8th. May make the 1st but will have to see if I am allowed out as have friends coming round and may need to organise someone else to clean and tidy....LOL
Oh, oh, oh. I am fully booked in October . November is filling up too! Happy to make it an early Jan jobby if Smiify can co-ordinate an advanced route at the same time?
Oh yeah, of course. Not suggesting you should wait for me (although if you really loved me you would ), Just *if* there is a combined advanced and beginner in Surrey, Jan may be the earliest I can make
If you are Outlawing, by January, you should be doing the beginners guide as single leg exercises and interval training;O) Someone good back me up please?
I may be able to do 9th, 16th, 22nd or 23rd, 29th or 30th October. Maybe even take a day off and do 28th (last day of half term). If we can get a date, I'll close it off. I think we might need a list fairy. I may be able to do more than one, but not likely close together. How's that?
Just back from holipops and see that Dustboy is even faffing about a date now! Got to be before Jan. Outlaw training starts in December. A beginner/smiffifest all meeting at the end for burgers sounds good so long as I'm on the bigginerfest to start with.
I would be interested in some beginners rides on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings at 10:00 as I drop my daughter at school at 9am just north of Horsham so could get into Surrey from there.
However I have no idea about the gearing required for long hills as I have only riden on shortish hills and normally need to stand up to get to the top. Do you guys change your coggy bits for hill courses?
I rather feel we have hijacked Smiffy Killer Courses. Should we relocate to our own thread?
It's just a winter training ride thread, any talk or arranging of rides is welcome and apt
As far as weekends go I can do
Oct 1st, 2nd, 8th, 9th and 16th
November 12th, 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th
December 4th 5th and 11th
Plus assorted weekdays as I work shifts on a rolling 4 on 4 off pattern.
Any ride is a good ride, no need to label them beginner or advanced and people should have a go as they will find they can do more than they realise and the confidence gained will be worth the effort. Given my current lack of training I will suffer on anything

In that case - I'll join the Smiffifest. I am generally worried about holding up a group waiting for me to grind my way up the hill but if its not that serious then I'll have a go. (words lamb and slaughter come to mind).
Actually, it was a 25 but thank you for the compliment!
I don't bother changing cogs. Or being quiet!! Soup, remember after the first hill last time on the beginners I had to walk up nearly all of them so they'll more than likely be waiting for me, not you!

I an interested in doing the beginner ride. Still recovering from last fall from bike, ribs are aching less each week.
Any dates yet?
And again!

You'll need a drag lift for some of them.
Sit/stand/sit.stand/etc. I do them on 34/27, and I think Dustboy managed Crocknorth on a 23
