  • Hi All,
I managed a new PB at parkrun last Saturday 22.16,so very happy. Whitehead maybe I can join you, would love to do sub 4 in May.
Hope all you other guys injuries and ailments are getting better.
  • Congrats on the Pb Peter
  • Congratulations Peter...with a parkrun of that time you will easily do sub 4 or sub 3.30....no problem..you seem to be on good form just now as you got a good hm time a few weeks back too....Keep up the good work speedy.....

Whitehead runner....I am hoping tfor a sub 4 this year but will just need to wait and see once the training starts for real in January......

Miggito....Thats good your keeping fit by cycling and think you are being very good and sensible about your running........as you say plenty time for training to start yet......my plan starts 23rd Jan I think image

    Happy running guys and dolls.

  • Nice day for a run, will be a shorty due to far to much alcohol last night
  • Still no running, limited drinking, too much working, this isn't right!

My patience is starting to wear a bit thin!! Hope everyone else is okay, physio bascially saying if the new round of Ultrasound doesn't do anythign I'll need to get the injection in my foot so fingers crossed! Starting to get a pain in my other foot now, think I'm just imagining things now!

Hope everyone else out doing well, off to look at Garmins now again to cheer myself up image

  • Hiya

been a bit rubbish at posting lately, had a niggly ankle and roitten cold so didnt run for about for weeks. Went out for a very gentle 3 miles last Thursday and felt pretty good still cant seem to run slow so struggled towards the end. Its surprising how quick i seem to lose my fitness.

Im going to make a real effort now as ive got a bit of a conditioning program to follow before starting the Mara training in ernest.

hope everyone else is ok and havent lost our mojo?

  • Hope you get back to fitness soon Jonesy.

Currently on day 47 of a 50 day runstreak. Then back to 5-6 days of running a week before gradually increasing the mileage again.
  • Jonesy - my mojo has wandered off into the wilderness - not ran for 8 weeks now and going to see the foot specialist tonight to hopefully get the needle stuck in the crunchy stuff to take my pain away! Come on Jonesy - get your lazy ass up and get out there - how's that for encouragement?!? image Good to hear you're getting back into it though!

My waistline still expanding and Xmas will soon be upon me, hoping I can get back out in the next couple of weeks - my post count will no doubt go back up to silly levels again when I can actually run and have something to contribute. image

I am still just very p**ssed off at my foot not being better yet - RICE my arse!! image

Whitehead - I'm jealous lol - I will be back to 2 - 3 miles a couple of times a week to try and get my fitness back up - serious training starts in February or god forbid I have to transfer my place!

Hope everyone else is well, I'm off to enter the Marathon competition posted above - not sure how they're going to fly me from Falkitrk to Edinburgh though image

  • Okay - just looked at it - what's the answer lol!! It's not very clear how many races there are - are they including the junior and breakfast races as well or just the 1/2/Marathon and team relay, is it really that difficult - am I that stupid!?! Where's my calculator....
  • Hiya Guys and dolls.

Seems many of us hve been having injury or ilness troubles...My ankle injury has now cleared properly and have been doing a few runs of late only to be then be struck down with a rotten cold tht left me whacked for well over a week...I'm too scared too say it but think I a m fine now..touch wood....

Miggito...Gosh 8 weeks without running is hard....how was the injection thingy in your foot...i do hope you get out running soon.

Jonesy...yeah come on you gotta find that mojo and get back ou there.

Whitehead runner...omg 47 days of running in a  row...wow.....thats impressive.....

Hope everyone else is running well...I am off for aclub run tonight..just a short one as its ending at the pub for a celebratory drink for one of the ladies who is 60......

    Speak soon

  • Miggito - If my previous Edinburgh experiences are anything to go by I would say that the organisers aren't really sure how many races there are. It feels like they just make it up on the day depending on who turns up.
  • Second rest day, got to a streak of 49 days but now being sensible.

Now now Dave, give them a chance, they're bound to get it right, eventually!
  • thank god someone else is as confused as i am regarding the number of races-- its defintely not 3 but could it be 20??

  • Never done Edinburgh before, 2012 will be my debut!

Any tips on where to stay? There's 3 of us in the party

  • I left it late Johnny and all the budget hotels are pretty full. I'm a tight Yorkshireman and won't be paying silly money for the centre of Edinburgh so I think I'm at the Premier Inn at Livingston (Bathgate) It's about 2 stops down the line on the train and there is a train on Sunday morning that gets you to the start in time
  • Evening all hope everyone is still fighting fit or on the mend if your not.

Bit the bullet and started my conditioning training this week nice easy 3 mile last night and another 5 tonight. Only 27 weeks to go image

Very cold and wet out tonight, but strangely enjoyed it image

Thanks for the encouragement miggito just what i needed lol.

Lol - yes, I've only done the half a couple of times but seen all the reports so fingers crossed they'll do a good job in 2012!

Snap - once you find out the answer, let us all know, I'm now intrigued!!

Franny - thanks for the kind wishes. Never got the injection, the buggers sent me for an MRI scan instead! Saw someone last night to look at the scans who said quote """"hmm - there's definitely something not right there, your foot's not suppossed to look like that""" LOL! He then palmed me off to another specialist who I'm going to see tonight but my hopes of running Edinburgh next year are now sitting on a shoogly peg!!! Keep your fingers crossed for me, I need it fixed soon, I'm losing motivation fast and my former self is making an appearance (ie drinking and eating too much with no exercise!!). I will be quite gutted if I can't make it next year. I've given myself up until end January (another 6 weeks) and if I'm not fixed by then I'll probably just have to pull out image I'm cool beginning my training full on at the start of Feb, as long as they tell me I will be better within that timescale, it will be enough motivation to get me back on the bike / crosstrainer!

     PS - Jonesy - you're welcome lolimage

  • P.S.

Edinburgh will be my 4th marathon...done 4.31, 4.08, and 4.04 thus far...so planning (hoping?!) for sub 4 in Edinburgh for the 1st time...

  • Hi all

Had a good week this week with a 3 mile and two 5 mile runs, played rugby today (and survived) time for a rest for Sunday. Really starting to enjoy getting out pounding the pavement again, despite the cold!

looking forward to next 20 odd weeks.

Miggito: fingers crossed that you'll be back to full fitness and ready to train soon

Johnny: some very impresive times there so good luck for 2012.

hope everyone else is in good shape.

  • Hi All

Jonesy...well done on kick starting your running..keep it up.

Miggito...I hope you get the right answers to your foot problem very soon and are able to get out running again in time for training.

Well I did 9.3 miles this morning and hoping to build on this over the next few weeks before starting the mara training in earnest.Kinda looking forward to the long long runs again and buliding up to them to. lets hope its all injury free and goes to plan...that's sometimes the hardest part.LOL

Hope everyone elses running going well at this busy cold time of year.

  • Hey all,

I'm fair putting the beef on now as they say with no running image Been very busy with stuff and running still at the back of my mind so not been hanging around here as much!

My worst feelings were confirmed with MRI scan and I have a fracture in my foot -hence the pain image

Not giving up yet but I need a minor miracle to be healed in time to get the training done.  Anyway, I am forever an optimist so will be keeping fingers crossed, back to see specialist tomorrow again to ask him to come up with a wonder cure!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, I will be back in the New Year with an update but wish you all a Merry Xmas and an injury free 2012!!! image

    Now where's that icepack lol!!

  • So sorry to hear your news Miggito, i know just how you feel having broken my ankle a couple of years ago. At least you know what it is now and can look forward to when your fit again. Keep your chin up and be positive for 2012.

Franny: nice mileage to be doing before you start your programme, i always like the long runs once you get into double figures, gives me a real sense of achievement.

Ive done a couple of five mile runs this week and the programme im following means you run each mile progressively quicker. I can just about do it but im struggling on the last one! it can only get easier.

Have a great Christmas everyone and i hope Santa is kind to everyone.

  • Happy New year Everyone and hope you all had a nice Christmas.

Miggitio...sorry to hear about you news but at least you now know what your dealing with...let us know how you go.

Jonesy...Sounds like you have found your running mojo again..well done..

I have been out on New years day..did just under 4 miles and then again yesterday where i did  7.57 miles...No running today though..work later and its blowing a wild wild wind out there...not good....

happy running and stay safe everyone.

  • It was wild out there yesterday but got a short run in, hope everyone is getting ready to increase the miles!!
  • If anybody wants to transfer their place, please let me know!
  • I also am looking for a place - went to enter today and standard entries closed image

    Cheers

  • Hey there folks,

Thought I'd drop in and say hi as I am in and this will be my first ever marathon - looks like I am in good company.  Thanx to this thread I have just bought myself a shuttle bus ticket and 4 supporters ones for my family - hadn't even crossed my mind to think about transport after the race!

I am coming up from Norwich for three days around the race.  Got three halfs behind me (1:40 PB) and plenty of 10k's (44:25 PB) and 20:52 PB for 5k.  Not really sure what time I am after, would love sub 4 hours but am trying not to get too hyped up on a time target!  But can already feel a burning desire for it to start with a 3!  Went out for a 17M LSR yesterday and it was tough, tough, tough!

So is everyone on training plans already?  I have set January 30th as my official start date and I am following a Runner's World Garmin-Ready schedule but have fiddled with it slightly.  Picked Jan 30th as it's 16 weeks + 1 to allow for injury or illness.  Good luck with training everyone!

  • Hi Monk welcome aboard!

It's been a bit quiet here lately so good to see some new names, its my first marathon too I've started training from a plan off the Asics site, 4 runs a week and prety tough for me. My target is around 5 hours but id just be glad to finish. The distance still feels a bit daunting, but then the half did before I actualy did it.

My longest run so far is 10 miles (on Saturday) and it wasnt too bad, legs felt very tired towards the end.

Five more tonight so hope it stays dry.

  • Hi guys! Can I join too? This will be my second Edinburgh. I had to pull out of last year's race as I was pregnant and I'm no Paula so figured a marathon at 7 months pregnant would be hard going for me!

It will be my first marathon since my PB at Abingdon in 2010 when I finally broke 4hours. Needless to say I'm secretly hoping to do sub-4 again but will have to see how training goes.

Monk, jan 30th sounds like a good start date! I'm just warming up to that with some gentler 4-5 mile runs.

What was last years race like? When I did it in 2009 they ran out of water -it was stolen I think...? But it was a mega hot day so a lot of people suffered as a result.

Will read through all your posts now to see what I've missed!
